Fully Mature Wayland implementation in Gnome.

For whatever reason, Windows 11 is worse at Cyberpunk 2077 than Arch for me. Constant stuttering. It might be that Arch has much less going on than Windows, but it’s enough for me to use Linux as my main gaming OS now.

Hoping to see Gnome make some progress on Mosaic Tiling. Also wish they’d bite the bullet already and implement a SSD fallback and go along with Hex color values and just choose named colors from there.

penquin, (edited ) in Shortcomings and regressions in Plasma 6 wayland for artists using and configuring graphic tablets

Is this only Fedora or is it Linux in general ditching Wayland on plasma? Also, will people be able to reinstall xorg and will it work fine? Wayland is not usable for me and I use plasma. This would be a big blow for me if I can’t use xorg. I use emdeavourOS. Are we good there?

raghukamath,

For now it is just fedora ditching xorg, you are safe on Arch based and debian based distros.

penquin,

Phew, thank you. I was getting stressed out for a bit there. lol

vcmj, in How to solve this boot error message?

Depending on if you wrote the kernel cmdline yourself I imagine this might happen using /dev/sdN style device paths? BIOS might change things up every now and then for fun, so using partition UUIDs would be a better way if so.

dafunkkk,

so can be bios dependent?..it’s possible to change from /dev/sdn to UUIDs…how? Thanks

vcmj,

Basically just look for things like root=/dev/sda2 in the kernel command line. You can get it at runtime by running “cat /proc/cmdline” having /dev/sda etc in your fstab might also be a problem

vcmj,

You can change those to /dev/disk/by-uuid/XYZ (“ls -an” that directory to see the symlinks to your current drives)

vcmj,

Yes if you have multiple drives some buggy BIOS may not enumerate them in the same order every time. Most modern distros do UUIDs by default but when manually setting up a bootloader it is easy to succumb to such temptations to use the much simpler device paths as the UUIDs are a pain. If you’re not sure how to change the kernel parameters most likely you’re good on that front actually, its in your grub config as others have mentioned. I’ll leave this comment around in case some poor soul who did it manually comes across the thread.

As a GNOME user:

A lot of development is ongoing in GNOME thanks to the Sovereign Tech Fund. I’m curious what that will bring.

Also hoping that the proposed tiling functionality will be implemented.

Also excited for this. I tried KDE before but I didn’t find it easy to configure (too manually for a declarative guy like me). I like more the simplicity of Gnome.
