seaQueue, in How far away is GIMP 3 from GIMP 4?
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

If I had to guess when GIMP will be native GTK 4 I’d say no sooner than five years, more likely it’ll be 10. By the time GIMP runs on GTK 4 we’ll be working with GTK 5 or 6.

ProtonBadger,

I don't know how long it will take but it should be much much less work now that gnarly UI elements as old as GTK have been replaced with modern toolkit ones.

i love this art style so much 🥺

hottari, in Is there a tool to real-time encrypt folders?

I use gocryptfs with a GUI wrapper called Vaults. It’s very neat.

sic_semper_tyrannis, in What's your experience with bluetooth audio?

Using the latest Mint I sometimes connect my Bluetooth ear buds (ISOTunes) and have had no issues.

ani, in Made the switch to KDE

Second that GNOME hasn’t even a decent logo it’s a feet!!!1 Now KDE has cool dragon. Really, GNOME is trash just keep on KDE life’s miles better I’m very proud of you. If anything else just take a look at COSMIC

sebsch,

I also do not like the design and workflow gnome enforces the user to, but I would never discourage anybody from using it.

TheGrandNagus,

Gnome is amazing.

static, in Steam Linux Marketshare Surges To Nearly 2% In November

I just removed Windows from my desktop and went straight Linux after seeing how well things ran on my Deck.

Here’s a table with multiple solutions and comparisons: www.cryfs.org/comparison

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/930823e6-0012-4aa0-ae50-458ae0345924.png

Just be aware that some solutions like gocryptfs are provided on a user-space filesystem (Fuse). This has a very low performance and most importantly if you require inotify on the decrypted data for some application then it won’t be available. In short inotify is what allows apps to watch a filesystem for changes and act accordingly in real time.

AProfessional,

Tables like this suck. They are made by one of the projects in the comparison and they include no data.

Better than nothing. :)

Why the downvotes? Is there something negative about this art style?

I subscribed to this channel for Linux news, not furry pics. I block furry communities because I don’t want to see this stuff, ever. I surely don’t want it to come through my ‘subscribed’ feed that I feel safe scrolling through at work. It’s just not the right community to post this imo. There are literally dozens of places for this content elsewhere on the fediverse let alone the rest of the net.

People wonder why Lemmy isn’t catching on with the general population but this is a prime example of why Lemmy feels kinda jank. I shouldn’t have to worry about weird fetishy cartoons on my tech community.

This looks great. Just what I wanted. I hate i3-status resource consumption.

after a day of messing with it I just wanted to thank you again. I love the 1 FPS mode, it’s more than enough for me and it isn’t wasting resources. I don’t need to refresh my battery percentage or disk space more than once per second.

sebastiancarlos,

Hey, I really appreciate that. I’m glad you find it useful.

For me on Arch and also, but a lot less frequent fedora I find that it works fine then every few months there’s an update that breaks it for a few days till it gets patched. But besides that it works fine for me. I use blueman in DWM BTW

velox_vulnus, in Made the switch to KDE

I don’t like GNOME for it’s poor theming support and it’s toxic dev community (ahem, talking about senior devs, especially Ebassi’s hostility towards newbies), but I think that it has some well-designed defaults. I love the workflow - everything is fast and snappy, shortcuts are pretty nice, aligning window is quick, and if there’s a lack of space, I can just drop the app in another workspace. Yes, I am using GNOME 45 at the movement, and I think it’s quite nice. But I also love the roadmap of GNUStep, and maybe if I can in the future, I would love to assist Gregory Casamento.

Sounds like you’re looking for EncFS.

It’ll leak the size and structure of whatever you have there. Filenames and content are encrypted.

hperrin, in What's your experience with bluetooth audio?

I haven’t had any issue with Bluetooth audio on Fedora.

ani, in Best distro for Lenovo Carbon X1

I have been having the same issue with a Lenovo laptop but on NixOS. I suppose this is a kernel issue; I’ll try updating and see if it solves the issue.
