Flyswat, in Use YAD/Zenity dialogues to populated variables in a bash script?

If you fill both fields the output in the terminal is file|this is some text|

Wouldn’t it be easy to get them using awk by defining | as a field separator?

linuxPIPEpower,

It is the only solution I found. I described it in the post but put it behind a “spoiler” “What doesn’t work” to make the post shorter.

This seems unmanageable because adding a new field or failing to provide input for a field will both change the output order of every subsequent value. It’s way too fragile.

geophysicist, in Help with Bluetooth on Pop!_OS

Where are all the people who claim to never ever have had an issue with audio or Bluetooth on Linux and how it’s worse on windows?

wingsfortheirsmiles,

I personally haven’t but just from reading the Pop OS help page on BT I expect issues at some point

papabobolious,

Right here, how’s that going to help someone who is having issues? Or am I just meant to gloat a bit?

mateomaui,

I think the point is the number of times someone is having such an issue, and those people show up to proclaim they’ve never had such problems as if it’s helpful. So, at least you can recognize it’s not.

techwithjake, in is there a foss project to automatically sort files

Maybe organize-tool would help? You have to set the parameters but I love it for getting my home folders organized.

Harbinger01173430, in AMD Publishes XDNA Linux Driver: Support For Ryzen AI On Linux

Wait, can I finally use my old Radeon card to run AI models?

Dremor,
@Dremor@lemmy.world avatar

Unfortunately not.

“The XDNA driver will work with AMD Phoenix/Strix SoCs so far having Ryzen AI onboard.”. So only mobile SoC with dedicated AI hardware for the time being.

Harbinger01173430,

Welp…I guess Radeon will keep being a GPU for gaming only instead of productivity as well. Thankfully I no longer need to use my gpu for productivity stuff anymore

yannic, in Help with external 4TB drive

I have no experience in this specific matter, but you could look up how to switch the sector size from 512 bytes to 4096 and, you know, just do the opposite.

Dariusmiles2123, in Distro for 2013 iMac

Fedora on a 2012 MacBook Pro works perfectly fine. The only thing not working out of the box was the WiFi but it was really easy to solve.

I’ve been impressed with Budgie, especially on older hardware, as an alternative to Gnome. Hoping things keep going well.

prettybunnys, in [Solved] Had a power outage while updating my fedora system, and now dnf has file conflicts. Is it recoverable?

First things first, run the command you want to run and provide us the error output.

nossaquesapao,

I was running dnf update when the system was shut down, and I rebooted when the power was back. The system apparently booted normally, and I tried to complete the upgrade process, to avoid issued. Now, the “dnf update” command shows the error message I posted.

In the original post, the error was in portuguese. Now I changed system language to english and posted the entire output of dnf update in the original post, to make it more readable for the community.

prettybunnys, (edited )

I’m not seeing your error output but I do see your paraphrasing of the error output.

Idk if it’s my app not showing it or what.

It was the Memmy app everyone, shame

nossaquesapao,

That’s strange, but anyway, I managed to solve the problem and edited the post with the solution. Thank you for the support.

PseudoSpock,

I suggest a filesystem that supports taking snapshots in the future. It’s a lifesaver for moments like these.

nossaquesapao,

I’m using btrfs, but I still need to read more about how it works. I will try to use this experience as a motivator, thank you.

Not OP, but this looks like the error message.

prettybunnys, (edited )

Are you using markdown or something?

My app is only showing “Not OP, but this looks like the error message” and nothing else.

we’re out here troubleshooting all kinds of shit

BigFatNips,

prettybunnys,

@SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I am, I will remove the codeblock markdown.

Edit: removed, let me know if you can see it now.

prettybunnys,

Yes, and that is the nail in the coffin of the Memmy app for me.

Thanks!

LunaCtld, in I feel like I'm missing out by not distro-hopping
@LunaCtld@lemmy.world avatar

Own story (skip to the “—” if not interested):

Don’t worry yourself. If Mint works for you and you don’t have a good reason to switch. Just stay.

I started out with Mint as well. Switched from Cinnamon to Mate early on because I wanted to run a fancy compositor called Compiznand stay on that for like 2 years.

I still had a lot of free time, so I got “bored” by everything being so low maintenance compared to Windows 8. I checked out Arch and ran it for a bit with KDE 4 I think.

At some point I got a proper PC (was a crappy Laptop before) and wanted to Continue running KDE, so I chose KUbuntu because of that. I ran into some issues and a brick when upgrading that I couldn’t solve, so I went back to a rolling release distro to not need to worry about major updates again. I went with Manjaro as I thought it would be more stable than Arch (I didn’t have a problem with Arch, just craved max stability in general then).

In the meantime I since learned that Manjaro and Arch are about equally as stable from problems I needed solve and me sometimes running Arch on my old laptop when out.

I have been on Manjaro for about 7 years now (never re-installed), love it, KDE and don’t care about all the political stuff. I don’t care that people hate on Manjaro, never encountered a problem I couldn’t solve and will happily continue to use the distro until it breaks on me.

You can use whatever you like. Distro hopping can be fun, but is also a burdon and might prevent you from making your PC your home.

I wouldn’t switch especially for political stuff. Just use what you like. If you don’t wanna miss out, just watch some YT Videos of people testing out Distros/DEs or run some in virtual machienes. If you have a secondary device, you can also do hopping on that.

I hope this can help somewhat. Use whatever you like, don’t fret about political stuff. I used to kinda distro hop (not really) and now couldn’t care less about it.

You can easily check out other Distros using VMs, Docker Containers or even rented Servers for the most part.

If you have the time and are truely interested in Distro hopping (or just testing out a new DE) just go for it though. Just don’t let others dictate what you run.

atzanteol, in Any C# devs want to share their setup?

Been a long while since I’ve done any C#, but for other languages (Java, Python, Kotlin) I’ve very much enjoyed the JetBrains IDEs. They have a dedicated C# one as well, though I’ve not used it.

stereopixels,

JetBrains Rider: I use it, and I love it; I used it during my day job on Windows until they got restrictive on only using company-authorised software (😭), but I still use it on Linux and macOS for any C# work I do outside my day job. All the benefits of their Visual Studio add-in, Resharper, are built-in to Rider.

Skyhighatrist,

All the benefits of their Visual Studio add-in, Resharper, are built-in to Rider.

And it’s faster because they don’t have to work within the restrictions place on VS plugins.

InFerNo, in GNOME Network Displays Adds Support For Chromecast & Miracast MICE Protocols

Is this still Wayland only?

KarnaSubarna,
@KarnaSubarna@lemmy.ml avatar

The application will stream the selected monitor if the mutter screencast portal is available. If it is unavailable, a fallback to X11 based frame grabbing will happen. As such, it should work fine in almost all setups.
