Because MBA- and CEO-brains say that raking in money hand over fist doesn’t matter unless you can rake in consistently more and more money hand over fist. What normal people see as stable profits, they see as underperforming versus the bigger profits they see only in their head.

Quite honestly: nothing. Some folks might deliberately use Steamboat Willie in some content because they can, and Disney will likely try and attack some of those people in court based on trademark law if applicable.

But I don’t really see a lot of actual utility in the Steamboat Willie character, outside of Disney itself. Any use of it is ultimately just referring to the “I can do this now” aspect of having just entered public domain, which frankly isn’t that interesting.

Ha, I mean, yeah. What other reason would someone want Steamboat Willie?

I legit hope there is one for artistic purposes. I just think the majority will not be for artistic purposes.

I’ve heard an argument that a reason why Disney has pushed Steamboat Willie lately (new intro for Disney Animation films, and a lot of merch) is because copyright law works differently from trademark law. They can still claim a trademark even if the copyrighted work is in public domain. I’m not a lawyer, but if that’s not all BS, I don’t think we have to worry about anything like this anytime soon.

I love this. Anything that keeps me in the terminal and out of the browser is a blessing from Tux himself.

Related: I just spent 2 weeks doing a fanedit of STV. I will die on the hill that the plot is good if you can get around most of the silly humor of Shatner (which obviously I removed), as well as most of the weird shit between Scotty and Uhura.

At the core, it is a sweeping critique of religion and charlatanism. Larry Luckenbill as Sybok is one of the great performances in all of Trekdom.

I haven’t figured out distribution yet but you can bet I’ll be sharing with the community here (even if only for discussion).

Some of my favorite edits are actually in discussions between Kirk, Spock, and Bones. In one scene Bones has weird jokes that don’t really fit the tone of Spock’s exposition. It was a challenge to get around them, but I think I did it quite successfully, and it adds some needed gravitas to those portions.

Anyway, yes – it’ll be available somehow.

The bottom frame of the meme is from STV, and the whole thing is based on STV’s “what does god need with a starship?”.

Others have said this, but just adding to the pile: I had a system running Pop and a GTX 970. I removed the 970 and installed an RX 6600 XT and had absolutely no issues (and it was the nvidia version of Pop – I simply removed the nvidia shit at a later time).

Yes, it works this way. An additional driver is not needed for AMD.

It shouldn’t be clear as mud. The answer is: it will work out of the box. Just try it.

As I said in another comment, I had a system running nvidia and Pop. AMD card worked with no issues and no additional software installed. I removed the nvidia stuff some months later. It doesn’t affect anything in the meantime.

Disney spent $4 billion for Marvel back in 2009. They’ve made far more than that back already, and I’d argue the superhero / comic movie space is now ridiculously saturated.

Personally I hope this just leads to more varied projects instead of executives resting on a single IP until the end of time (and yes, all Marvel stuff is one big IP).

I am pouring one out to this little champ. Stripping HDCP and letting me... archive streaming services from 2016-2023 RIP (lemmy.world)

What killed it, well after reviewing some PS4 gameplay I noticed that it was having audio issues, like it would allow some sounds but not all. It was almost as if it was receiving a 5.1 audio output but was missing the centre channel. Even though the PS4 was set to stereo....

All they had to do was throw it in Early Access while they fixed it. The reviews would likely be stellar in that case. Releasing it fully in this state just feels like some corporate BS. Disappointed in dev and publisher, and they keep making it worse with their weird excuses.

“Built with modern hardware in mind”, homie this shit ain’t even running right on a 4090. And 30fps target? Idk what they’re smoking.

circuitfarmer,
@circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

That’s disheartening but I figured it had to be something like that. Ultimately then the danger will be thinking “great, now right to repair is fixed”, plus Apple gets to claim they were altruistic. Ugh.

2000+ hours in the original KSP. Still play it occasionally. Tried KSP2. When the itch strikes again, I’ll be back in KSP1.

Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don’t look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I’d go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I...

I have not used it since some time in early June.

I have technically logged into my account – but only because I’ve opened Relay Pro. In spite of everything, it appears to still update everything, and the last app patch update message I saw said that they had implemented changes to reduce API usage (this after July 1).

But I haven’t interacted with reddit beyond that, and I don’t plan to. It’s not about anger at reddit anymore either – I actively like Lemmy better. It reminds me of old reddit.
