Using the latest Mint I sometimes connect my Bluetooth ear buds (ISOTunes) and have had no issues.

ani, in Made the switch to KDE

Second that GNOME hasn’t even a decent logo it’s a feet!!!1 Now KDE has cool dragon. Really, GNOME is trash just keep on KDE life’s miles better I’m very proud of you. If anything else just take a look at COSMIC

sebsch,

I also do not like the design and workflow gnome enforces the user to, but I would never discourage anybody from using it.

TheGrandNagus,

Gnome is amazing.

For me on Arch and also, but a lot less frequent fedora I find that it works fine then every few months there’s an update that breaks it for a few days till it gets patched. But besides that it works fine for me. I use blueman in DWM BTW

theit8514, in Is there a tool to real-time encrypt folders?

I have used gocryptfs (github.com/rfjakob/gocryptfs) in the past, it creates an overlay mount that encrypts each dir and file separately, so no need to precreate a container. There are some security downsides to this approach though so be aware of that. nuetzlich.net/gocryptfs/threat_model/

Knusper, in Firefox Developer Edition and Beta: Try out Mozilla’s .deb package!

I’m excited for these, especially with them likely coming for stable Firefox soon, too. My $DAYJOB hands out Ubuntu laptops and every time, we have to scrape off the Firefox Snap, because e.g. saving images doesn’t work and the Downloads directory is in some mystical place somewhere underneath ~/snap/. These APTs will almost restore the usability of other distros…

kickeriekuh, in Made the switch to KDE

My first Desktop was KDE, but switched to Gnome about 15 years ago. So, I am very comfort with the Gnome’ish workflow. But some months ago I bought a Steam Deck and use the Desktop (KDE) a lot. But I don’t feel that comfort as with Gnome. I miss the flexible workspaces and the look of the designs is, well, not that modern (some even make glitch effects). If you’re comfort with it, it’s okay, but personally I don’t understand and feel the benefits of using it.

krimsonbun,

I feel the same, but recently I’ve been experimenting much more with plasma, I don’t really have a reason.

cujo, in Anyone have experience with Intel Arc GPUs?
@cujo@sh.itjust.works avatar

UPDATE: I picked up the ARC A750. Been driving it around for awhile. Older DirectX games perform on par or often even better on Linux with ARC than they do on Windows. DX12 games had negligible performance boosts being run on Windows vs. Linux with ARC save some big exceptions…

Certain DX12 titles, one of which I own (Halo Infinite) WILL NOT RUN under Linux WITH the ARC card due to a lack of features in Vulkan. There are still some DX12 calls that have no equivalents in Vulkan, and while some games flag this feature set without using it and MAY be able to be tricked into running without it, any games that actually USE those features will not run under Linux with the ARC card, period. So… Research your newer AAA DX12 titles first.

sbv, in what caused you to get into Linux?

programming. It’s just a really big IDE.

timicin, (edited ) in Made the switch to KDE

i started using kde once personal computers became beefy enough to handle it well around 2002 but switched to gnome because gnome felt more polished at the time and i recently switched back and, you’re right, the customize-ability is impressive after using gnome for the last 15-ish years.

it’s also daunting/frustrating at times too.

palordrolap, (edited ) in KDE Plasma - Is it possible to show the user running a GUI in its window title ?

To distinguish two Firefox profiles that I run simultaneously, I use different themes on each. For Firefox this might actually be the best way.

For a file manager (I assume the Dolphin you're talking about is the file manager), the closest I remember seeing is a red toolbar on the unrelated Nemo file manager when it's run as root.

If Dolphin is per-user theme-able, then you could do what I do with Firefox. If it supports other kinds of plug-in, then maybe there's one that does what you want already.

To my knowledge, windowing systems can't override the title of an application's window, and even if they could, the application could change it back again at any time, creating a race condition, or a very ugly situation where the system picks and chooses which windows are allowed to modify their titles and which ones aren't.

Therefore, I think you'd have to write your own plug-in (if they're a thing and the API permits title modifications), modify Dolphin's source code yourself or submit a feature request to Dolphin's developers, cross your fingers and wait.

PseudoSpock, in Is the Windows Subsystem for Linux worth it?
@PseudoSpock@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I prefer to keep windows as a VM only on wintel hardware, with Linux on the bare metal. The less Microsoft can see the better.

palordrolap, in Can't import OVA file or unpack it with tar

"UNEXPECTED_EOS" is almost certainly "unexpected end of stream", that is, the file is missing the end or there's data corruption and the unpacker has interpreted the bad data as meaning the file should be longer than it is.

Redownload the file, or try to download it using a different tool (e.g. wget or curl rather than a browser). If that still gets a truncated file, try a different source / mirror.

PrivateNoob,

Yeah you’re right. I’ve download git-lfs and it probably works now. Thank you for your help!

herrvogel, in What's your experience with bluetooth audio?

Built-in Bluetooth modules tend to “just work” for the most part, but external adapters are a whole other story. They are a pain and it’s best to buy them from somewhere that won’t ask questions if you try to return it.

Rustmilian, in What's your experience with bluetooth audio?
@Rustmilian@lemmy.world avatar

I haven’t had any issues.
But it’s not uncommon to a problem somewhere in the Bluetooth stack. It’s important you report any bugs you come across to the respective projects, because of how diverse Bluetooth devices are it’s hard to get perfect support for everything.
