hellvolution, in Very low resources but reliable Wayland Desktop?

Low resources = Xorg with some sort of Window Maker or similar desktop!

linuxoveruser, in Very low resources but reliable Wayland Desktop?

it sounds like rpios is using wayfire now, which is probably quite lightweight and can run on any distro

TerraRoot, in Very low resources but reliable Wayland Desktop?

Looking for similar myself. I love cbpp, based on openbox, it’s just out of my way and lets me do my work. but I want to move to wayland, thinking kde plasma, spend for ever changing it to my liking and some how export all changes. probably a bash script first but thinking long term write it in ansible.

But i’d much perfer to find a stock/sane solution.

Pantherina,

What did you change?

TerraRoot,

Not enough yet, made a list of apps I need, moved the dock/bar to the top of the screen. only have kde installed on my personal laptop, I don’t any where near enough time to spend on it, my desktop isn’t for playing around on.

Pantherina,

So you didnt actually change any deeper KDE parts, making it more like a tiling window manager by default?

Keyboard shortcuts for

  • krunner
  • tiling
  • workspaces / desktops

All that work great. Krunner / the kde Start menu are also truly great, I cant wait for custom rearranging of entries in Plasma 6 (afaik)

Should I stop using Iceraven then?

68silver,

Nothing wrong with Iceraven. It gets updates regularly. I use it on all my android devices.

despotic_machine, (edited ) in How to switch thr state of Fn keys?
@despotic_machine@lemmy.world avatar

That is typically the only solution as far as I know. I had this issue, resolved it in the BIOS, then I remapped a couple file manager shortcuts to avoid having to use the FN+ combo altogether, for the most part anyway.

Ashiette, in Switching from Linux Mint to OpenSuSE Tumbleweed very soon. Any advice?

If you want up to date go with Arch/Nix, don’t go OpenSuSE.

muhyb,

Why though?

Ashiette,

Why not, though ?

Sandbag,

Give an actual reason for why, don’t just say use arch/nix cause it’s what’s hot and hip.

MagneticFusion,

Do you use Arch btw?

Ashiette,

Does it matter ? 🤷

Orion doesn’t make the list?

nayminlwin, in Noob question: what to arrange before switching to linux

You should make a detailed check list of things you do on windows. Down to every details as much as you can, so that there’s very little surprise when you switch to linux.

For example, if you use MS Office Excel and you tend to use specific formula or expect something specific when you export to PDF or print things out. So that you can test these out on Libre Calc to see if it works for you.

We tens to gloss over these tiny details when switching to linux and sometimes it makes or breaks adoption.

Will also work to just dual boot and trybto do everything in linux. Might be tedious at first. Try to resist booting into windowsif you’re stuck for a while.

Papanca,

Thanks, i already did that. Also, i don’t use MS Office, i use LibreOffice, so no surprises there :-)

Clasm, in Switching from Linux Mint to OpenSuSE Tumbleweed very soon. Any advice?

I made the same switch earlier this year. The only real issues I can recall were learning to update flatpak manually because it holds up the other updates if I don’t do that through the Konsole first.

Granted, that might just be my system, but I generally have had far fewer issues with Tumbleweed than I’ve ever had with Mint.

Oh, and my art tablet gets tagged as a game controller for some reason, but it works for what I need it for so I haven’t bothered to fix it.

atmur, in Cool Flatpak apps to try for December - Fedora Magazine

I just stumbled across PDF Arranger last week, it is great.

warmaster,

Try StirlingPDF

jlow, in What's your experience with bluetooth audio?

Now that I know what to do (switch audio codecs on sound icon in menu bar depending on being in a call or listening to music) it works better for me on Linux Feroda than on Windoge.
