I switched from mint because I didn’t like cinnamon and wanted to try kde without going through the process of replacing a de. It was worth it because it like using my computer a lot more when I can make the de pretty

WeLoveCastingSpellz, in Thinking about making the big switch – recommend me a distro!

what about regular fedora on gnome?

Cwilliams, (edited ) in Thinking about making the big switch – recommend me a distro!

Options:

  • Linux Mint (Awesome first distro, but more out of date)
  • Pop!_OS (Great for gaming, based on Ubuntu)
  • Fedora Silverblue/Kinoite (Maybe later if your interested in immutability)
  • EndeavorOS (Maybe later once you understand the value of the AUR, more bleeding edge)

Don’t use:

  • Ubuntu (bloat, snaps)
  • Manjaro (Don’t get me started…)
jlow, in Thinking about making the big switch – recommend me a distro!

Im pretty happy with KDE Fedora (though constant updates make me anxious something breaks every reboot, lol) but if I had to change I would probably check out LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Ed). I’m not really a fan of Cinnamon/Mate but I’d give it another go …

I’m pretty sure you can do it on Trinity and XFCE

Yeaaaah, likely the route I’ll take.

lemmyreader, (edited ) in how do i install the latest version of neovim (for nvchad) linux mint

There’s a PPA for neovim, currently at 0.7.x : launchpad.net/~neovim-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/stableOh, sorry, I see NvChad wants 0.9.4 and Nerdfonts (Though not a hard requirement : docs.rockylinux.org/books/nvchad/nerd_fonts/).

launchpad.net/~neovim-ppa/+archive/…/unstable -> 0.10.x

jackpot,
@jackpot@lemmy.ml avatar

what is nerdfonts and dies linux mimt have it

lemmyreader,

According to that article mentioned in my earlier comment you won’t need the nerdfonts.

whats a ppa and why does it take so long for apt to update its stuff

lemmyreader, (edited )

Ubuntu uses LTS with five year support, which is why they like to keep a lot of software versions back. Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu I think. PPA is something you can add to Ubuntu or Ubuntu based Linux distributions to have newer or specific software repositories as extra on your system. Here’s a guide on PPA : itsfoss.com/ppa-guide/

AceFuzzLord, (edited ) in My move to wayland: it's finally ready

I don’t have enough experience with either x11 (or whatever else is used) or Wayland to have a well thought out opinion, but Wayland seems promising to me because of waydroid.

may_nya, in Arch efi partition error

reinstall arch without using archinstall maybe

Hiro8811,

I tried using archinstall but I got errors so I did it manually

may_nya,

expected

Hiro8811,

Expected me using it or getting errors?

may_nya,

both

Hiro8811,

Aha. If I modify them manually, what configs do I need to change?

Thank you for your help. I ended up using the approach proposed by @flashgnash (i.e. using lazy.vim) which let me install neovim and all my plugins.

ikidd, in XPipe status update: New scripting system, advanced SSH support, performance improvements, and many bug fixes
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

I see an issue about providing sudo credentials that has been resolved as “implemented” but I can’t figure out where you do that for a connection that you’ve ssh’d into as a user.

Any pointers?

crschnick,

It uses the sudo credentials from the SSH connection, even if you don’t need to provide a password to login. So if you set a password for a SSH connection, it should use that for the sudo elevation.

ikidd,
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, OK. I thought that was just for the connection setup only.
