seeing your second last image text, I think you’re making it seem like those who call GNU/Linux ate pretentious, which is most often not the case.

I say GNU/Linux for ideological reasons. Even GNU website itself says not to force people about it. Debian’s official name is Debian GNU/Linux. So, it’s not about “sounding smart.” there’s more to it.

I agree with your message of freedom, but please space out your text so it isn’t just a big wall. And don’t recommend distros like Guix, Hyperbola or Parabola to beginners, please…

If you’re a beginner and your hardware supports Linux-Libre, use Trisquel.

I’ve worked with linux for 25 years. I use emacs.

Fuck stallman for coat-tailing something successful.

GJdan,

Linux is just a kernel. Emacs/Linux is the OS.

dukk,
GJdan,

Ooh, I didn’t know about that! But I think I’d be more surprised if it wasn’t real.

j4k3, (edited ) in Just finished setting up my GNOME desktop. Am I doing this right?
@j4k3@lemmy.world avatar
MonkderZweite,

Badly configured server. Showing server and version in 403 is a first step for attacks.

j4k3,
@j4k3@lemmy.world avatar

Not mine, used Moe’s litterbox not knowing how long it might last as a temp image of OP image as BG for GNOME. Turns out that temp hosting option is probably rate limited…no big deal. It wasn’t a forever internet pic anyways.

Gentoo: do you want to use soil?

laurelraven,

Nah, that’s LFS

KISSmyOS, (edited )

What? Slackware has a menu-driven installer that sets up a usable system out of the box that comes with all the bells and whistles.
Just don’t try to change anything.

Oh, and the bells and whistles are powered by a steam engine, so you better know your way around ancient tech to use them.
