Where did you get the ‘to get there safely’ part? The story I saw said that the reason was unknown. I understood that it was some kids that decided to annex some other buildings and broke through the walls of the synagogue against the wishes of the elders. Insane story overall.

Jesus wept, are they funny in the head, or is the USA really so dangerous now that people are digging tunnels to go places rather than walk on normal public streets and take the bus?
Surely they’re just barmy? The USA has problems but it’s not at the level of “Honey I’m going to the shops, better dig a tunnel, don’t want the Mad Max gangs to catch me, you know how dangerous it is to go out on land before sunset!”.
Is it really for “get to synagogues safely” tho? I mean there are better ways for it :D For example, according to statistics, the safest method of travel is airplanes 🤦♂️
The article says a rogue group within the synagogue claimed to have made the tunnel to illegally access an empty building next door, as the synagogue had become overcrowded and they needed the space.

I am not crazy! I know they dug those tunnels! I knew it was in the basement. One after ground level. As if I could ever make such a mistake. Never. Never! I just – I just couldn’t prove it.
