I almost had this half-baked thought about the northwestern moose population being separated from the ones in the northeast, but then I remembered that they don't need passports to get into Canada.
no the bullshit of nazism as a driving force in ukraine or zelensky for that matter. In addition nazis are bad because of their actions. Like invading their neighbors with their military. Not cause some jagoff invokes a meme.
yes. there are pictures in your meme. That. Is. True. It shows a canadian function with a visiting dignitary clapping for the ceremony about some dude who did something that was so far before most folks were born that they did not even know the details. Hey do you know what I do know the details about. And it happened in my lifetime and not to long ago so I know the detail. pissant putin and his pathetic invaded ukraine to steal crimea and since no one did anything about it he decided to try and steal some more. but this time. there were ones who did something about it. And they will continue. and guess what. the war will not be won by propoganda and memes no matter how desperately pathetic putin is.
That’s just deflection. They said he fought against the USSR. We all know what that means even if you didn’t live through the war. Putin is defending Russia agaisnt the aggressor Ukrainians and their friends in NATO. Ukraine was a threat to the free people of the world. Ukraine is losing and you denying it doesn’t change that fact. Russia can keep this up for far longer than Ukraine can. Zelensky and his goons are Nazis and will soon be destroyed. Death to Ukraine!
We’re literally here because we chose to leave the other place. Is there something wrong with identifying with the people we identify with? What’s your point exactly?
Can you contribute a meme that conveys the toxicity of corporate media and the freedom of non-corporate connection? The freedom from tracking etc? Please show me the way. Something that will get your relatives to leave Facebook maybe?
To be fair, the isolation stuff was mostly at the beginning when the exodus started, but I couldn't blame people for leaving when that started. Some people just want to be where everyone is.
I can't say I've experienced much issue with federation since the early times, but then again I wouldn't know what it looks like on the Lemmy side.
I’m not referring to the intentional disabling of federation, but that kbin has had technical issues even after that which has made federation to and from lemmy instances intermittent.
I was on kbin when I first ditched Reddit, but boost coming out for Lemmy got me to switch. The mobile site for kbin is ok but nothing compared to a mostly fleshed out app. Also, like the other guy said the federation wasn’t always there.
Personally I like the interface for Kbin. It has many of the features you want in modern forums, but retains a look reminiscent of older style forums. Though I can see it wouldn't be for everyone.
Ah, the great isolation. Was a funny time everyone wondering why they could only see Kbin content haha
I doesn’t matter which platform is a users point of contact. I don’t think a lot of users miss the point that “fediverse” refers to all the platforms their platforms communicate with, together. Not just their platform.
Maybe. Or, like most users, they are aware that “fediverse” refers to the ActivityPub network as a whole, as well as adjacent networks such as matrix and diaspora.
When I say fediverse, I don’t mean Lemmy. If I want to refer to the part of the fediverse we are using, Lemmy/Kbin, I say threadiverse. It’s just one corner of the network.
I have no interest in the twitter format for social media, but people who do and enjoy mastodon, have just as much right to be excited about federation and what it can do for social media.
What I don’t understand, is why make this meme? Neither Lemmy nor Mastodon, is “the fediverse”. Only together, do they become a “universe” of federated instances, and even disparate platforms, which yet interoperate.
A Mastodon user who says they love the fediverse, likely loves it for the same reasons a Lemmy, Kbin, Friendica, Pixelfed, or MissKey user does. Where’s the joke?
With this post I just described some people I’ve met on my journey through fediverse that were saying that they love fediverse meaning by it only Mastodon, as if it’s the only platform out there. It’s a small number of people, that don’t affect anything. Of course after spending more time on fediverse they find out about other platforms(and that’s good). The point of the meme is just to make a little fun of them, nothing offensive.
It’s just more fedora-tipping condescension that keeps “normal” people from embracing things like Lemmy and Mastodon (or Kbin or Pixelfed or…). If we could all stop huffing the farts out of each others’ FOSS-holes and be a little kinder to people dipping a toe into these alternate networks, maybe we’d have more than 5 comments on a post.
I’d say solidly GenZ. Thinking that everybody else is stuck in the vortex of lies but you have now broken free by [doing something only marginally different]. The kind of idealism you see in youth. Fediverse apps help with some of the problems we see in other social media, but ultimately it’s a new diet, same shit.
Ironically Plato takes this into account in his allegory. There are lots of levels to “knowledge” (which he equated with goodness); we could be in the same spot just with our heads turned, or right behind the wall, or outside the cave but looking at the reflections in the water. And in each stage everyone believes they’re right and that they know the truth (except maybe in the last one). Honestly I think with fedi we just managed to turn our heads.
We did. Keep in mind that the explosion of growth on Lemmy is mostly made up of people that lost their apps due to the API rule changes, the ones that were opinionated and engaged enough to be selecting a 3rd party solution. So, Lemmy just got bombed with the loudest and most self-righteous of reddit users that now loudly circlejerk about how much better Lemmy is. In reality, all we have is a less diverse crowd of really loud people. Same shit, different platform.
Fediverse makes improvements on existing social media formats, but there are so many issues inherent to online social media that cannot be fixed by slightly changing the format.
Short-term, consequence-free interaction with strangers is not a substitute for actual social interaction, but it’s become one of the default modes of socialization in the modern world. It’s a bell that can’t be un-rung, but moving from reddit to lemmy isn’t going to mute it in any significant way either.
We are in complete agreement about the “value” of social media — very little. The real value as you imply is in-person humans making kind conversation in physical environments. Let’s do that.
I’m really only here because I want to participate in the fall of Reddit — but just moments ago I was having a coffee with five close face to face friends — that’s where it’s really happening.
If a woman was to rate a guy’s sexual perf, I highly doubt that dick size would come anywhere near top 3. I thought people stopped thinking it was soooooo important after highschool or so…
