cmbabul, (edited ) If Waylon were still with us he’d kick the ass of nearly everyone in Nashville

cmbabul, Love Sturgill, Jason Isbell is in the same league imo
GoodbyeBlueMonday, I’d also humbly submit Sierra Ferrell: not exactly outlaw country, but definitely in the vein of old school country, and she has a voice that is absolutely hypnotizing.
One of her most popular songs that is about love with a healthy dose of morbidity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2W8kCk1qnU
An absolutely legendary display of what she’s capable of with her voice: www.youtube.com/watch?v=57Aha_GwFt4
eestileib, “You’re saying country musicians didn’t always support wars of imperialism? Huh?”
cmbabul, “Come on Willy let’s ride”
PP_BOY_, Both of these types existed in the past and still exist today.
Glifted, Conway Twitty?
Slovene, He says knock it off, just right a damn joke!
lemmylommy, Rural noun, simple adjective
VikingHippie, Warm night, cold beer, blue jeans, red pick-up
Facebones, No shirt, no shoes, no jews you didn’t hear that
VikingHippie, I walk and talk like a field hand But the boots I’m wearing cost three grand
blanketswithsmallpox, Sun darts?: m.youtube.com/watch?v=3IyOD9eHRqI
VikingHippie, That fucking amazing! 😮🤣 Gotta love Letterkenny 🥰
I was actually quoting Bo Burnham’s equally hilarious Country Song though 😁
Slovene, You still have great country music like this: m.youtube.com/watch?v=TLnUJzueBOQ
psycho_driver, Are you outside of your mind?
Slovene, (edited ) Dude’s over here just tryin’ to sing about his tire swing … SMH
KingThrillgore, I despise modern country music and generally consider outlaw country and anything not Nashville Establishment to be the real shit.
superduperenigma, 🎶 With a big iron on his hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip 🎶
Steamymoomilk, (edited ) Tennesse ernie ford anyone?
Marty robbins?
Get me the classic good shit
son_named_bort, I still think the devil won that fiddle contest.
UrPartnerInCrime, As long as jonny accepted that battle the devil won. Greed and all that
Thermal_shocked, I recently discovered the band Ween and the song Japanese Cowboy is so pleasing to hear.
deranger, 12 golden country greats is such a good album.
jballs, Pat Finnerty on YouTube does a great series called What Makes This Song Stink. It’s definitely not for everyone, as he doesn’t give a shit about YouTube algorithms and keeping videos to an ideal length. But has a recent hour long video on Jason Aldean’s Try That in a Small Town. The video (Pat Finnerty’s not Jason Aldean’s) is phenomenal.
FunderPants, This video is great, thanks for sharing, subscribed.
jballs, Honestly, they’re worth going back and watching all of them from episode 1. He’s got a lot of jokes that he builds up across episodes.
FunderPants, (edited ) He hooked me so hard by showing how Ohio would sound over it, I wanted to laugh but I was also flabbergasted and so just noise and head shaking and disbelief is what I mustered.
But yea, I’ll go back and watch the old ones. Thanks.
Cataphract, (edited ) Another video you (and @FunderPants, @Grayox, @Holyhandgrenade) might enjoy is Chill Goblin’s take on “Oliver Anthony, Welfare, and Blair Mountain”. Oliver Anthony is the artist who did “Rich Men North of Richmond” and it’s a really great breakdown with historical contexts from the mining union wars to the Reagan Era of “Welfare Queens”.
FunderPants, Thank you for the recommendations, I’ll give it a listen.
Holyhandgrenade, Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out later today.
Todd in the Shadows also did a great breakdown of this song
Grayox, Beato
Holyhandgrenade, Pat Finnerty is a treasure. His podcast is also pretty funny if you haven’t checked it out. But every day a new video from him drops is a good day.
DigitalTraveler42, I like Billy Strings, he’s the exception, phenomenal guitar work with some true outlaw country lyrics.
shinratdr, Bones are their money…
problematicPanther, counter argument: Wheeler Walker Junior
cro_magnon_gilf, Country music has never been good or cool
Grayox, Thats like just your opinion man.
ExfilBravo, I’m convinced that if someone wrote a classic country banger, like a certified banger. Country “fans” would hate it and everyone else would love it.
UnverifiedAPK, (edited ) I mean they seemed to like Toby Keith, he’s even done a song with Willie Nelson about bounty hunting.
