Kase,

Unexpectedly wholesome comment section 🥲

jaschen,

I would love to help my mom again with her computer. Or her phone. Honestly, I just want to see my mom for whatever reason.

Agent641,

I miss my mum so much. She’s not dead I just haven’t seen her all day.

Got_Bent,

If it would bring my grandmother who passed away some thirty eight years ago back among the living and provide me with but a humble single day with her, I would gladly set up that phone.

malchior,

Id love for my grandma to ring me asking for help with her computer. She got me interested in computers back with a Commodore 64 when I was a kid.

Love you gran!

Octavio,

As frustrating as it can be, some day you’re going to miss getting those phone calls. 😢

Thcdenton,

Damn my grandparents didn’t live to see smartphones. I’ve never thought about that.

SnipingNinja,
ZeDoTelhado,

For me was not grand parents but my dad was referring me ALL the time to other people that went to his workshop that I “know about computers” (almost is some sort of arcane knowledge). I remember once somebody approached me with the typical question:

  • Are you the one that “knows about computers”?
  • (cringing inside already) yes that’s me
  • You know, I have this fridge that won’t cool…

I just left even before he finished the sentence. My dad later that day asked me why I was rude to someone (I know it was this guy). I just told him “imagine you know about cars and somebody asks you fix their fridge”. Didn’t even need to say more.

So for some people in my place, " knowing about computers " means arcane knowledge with nearly everything with a digital screen on it.

Flax_vert,

Are you the one who can tell me how to exit Vim?

Turn the computer off and on

Flax_vert,

Instructions unclear, it’s strapped to Elon’s spaceship. How do I get it off?

XTornado,

For really old people… I am more comprehensive. But man some people I swear… Like they ask me to help them with stuff I haven’t even used either, like I am going to do the same as you read, think and act. But some people seem to suddenly forgot to even know how to read or think.

Lasherz12,

That’s roughly half of the tickets in IT work.

Anticorp,

I relate so much with this meme.

Wait? What??
But…How?Who?

recapitated,

I try to adopt the mindset that my loved ones don’t need me to be their tech enthusiast… But they need me to be their tech therapist.

Techrapist.

MightyGalhupo,

That’s not quite the same chief

Octopus1348,

Still better than a normal r*pist.

MightyGalhupo,

Agreed

When they want to whine and moan about how confusing technology is/has gotten and how much they hate it instead of just explaining the difficulty and what they might have tried to resolve it?

Yeah wish I got paid like a therapist for those. They’d get real succinct real fast lol.

I told people I love helping people but many of my “clients” wanted to score immediate points by coming to the “computer guy” to rant about how they hate technology for the next hour.

Imagine how that would go over at other professions. “This thing you work on and would be willing to explain if I’d listen for a second? I hate it. Let me tell you why. Please help when I’m finally out of breath thanks.”

I’m sure the vet or a plumber would love this. Your mechanic especially. /s

Steamymoomilk,

I’ll upvote anytime I see a little chihuahua

Anticorp,

What about a big Chihuahua? I used to have a 30 pound dog that was 65% Chihuahua.

  • InternetCitizen2,

    They don’t know better.

    can,

Sometimes people don’t buy cheap things by choice

    greencactus,

True. I am sorry for not specifying it, I should’ve done it. Of course if someone gets a cheap 100$ phone out of necessity, it is very weird of me to judge this person.

    Emerald, (edited )

you can get older flagships for $100 on eBay that work way better then a new $100 low end phone. And you can even put custom roms on them
