Disney already botched their attempt to carry the Star Wars franchise forward with the sequel trilogy, so now all they can do is make the OT timeline more and more convoluted.
Absolutely fucked that franchise, it is so boring now. All of Ahsoka was shit, like they literally forgot to put the pay off…but they didn’t that’ll be somewhere else so you have to watch that.
I was so shocked at how good it was, I only watched it recently and thought it’s probably some old religious movie. But dayumn I loved it, and can totally see why Keanu said he’d love to see a sequel.
I’d personally prefer that if they aren’t allowed to show it they not bother. All this does is make watching with family uncomfortable or possibly if your aware of the scene beforehand prevent watching it with family at all.
Assuming i’m not trying to watch it with family I prefer my content uncensored, like they can say fuck if they want to or fuck if they want or actually be seen nude after a shower instead being censored in some form.
Even when I am watching things with family i’d prefer they just not did things they’d have to censor than taint it with censorship.
But Connery, playing an Egyptian pretending to be a Spaniard while also being the only one with a recognizeable Scottish accent amidst a an entire cast of non-Scottish people playing Scots? That was something special.
Gee, I hope it has more androids fingering and blowing and a bunch of scientists doing REALLY stupid shit.
Edit: the article may as well have just said “Ridley Scott swears it will be a hoot and a holler this time and definitely isn’t going to be fucking stupid again” because of course he is going to praise it.
I thought the pacing of things was fine and didn’t really feel like too many scenes overstayed their welcome. The 2001 opener I thought was pretty great. A few things did stick out a bit for me, though.
The fantastical version of reality. A spelled-out theme of the movie is how hard it is being a woman, which Mom-lady really lays out for the Barbies. It makes some sense because the Barbies clearly don’t know what real is like. The trouble is they say it instead of showing it. We don’t see Mom-lady having any particular problems specific to her being a woman in the movie’s world. The audience is supposed to nod along approvingly because she’s saying things that many real women feel, but she’s also from some surreal version of Earth where people in gaudy cowboy outfits can wander into a school and talk to the kids and steal library books and they don’t get tackled by security. We really needed some scenes with some biting misogyny to give that speech some impact.
Pitting the Kens against each other seemed convoluted. Ultimately the solution to the crisis is… voter suppression? Really?
The old film montage near the end seemed really gratuitous.
The only minor complaint i have is when they showed an obscure barbie thing and the character in the movie had to say out loud: "that was a real thing."
Or when the director had to put in her commentary saying that the barbie actor was a bad example because how pretty she is. It felt so unnecessary, if it was so bad, cut it out.
I knew nothing about the movie when i watched it and even i knew or highly assumed that everything in the movie is a real barbie thing, so i didn't see the point of one of the main character pointing it out. It just felt off to me. Kinda like: don't blame us, the movie makers, it was a real thing. And i nean that specifically, not the part where they freeze framed the clothes and accessories and named them.
Like i found the barbie living in the tree house hilarious, but thanks for letting me know that it's a real thing that you could buy, and thank god that lady knew everything and anything about barbies to tell us.
Maybe it would be funnier if the Mattel guys were barbie nerds who would point out stuff like that. Idk, it didn't make the movie bad or worse, it just feels dumbed down, for no reason.
I’m in the opposite camp, I loved Tron Legacy. Visually it’s superb, and when considered as a glorified Daft Punk music video like Insterstella 5555, it’s awesome.
I did read that one of the reasons they gave Tron: Legacy the green light was because they had no big sci-fi franchise of their own. Once they bought Lucasfilm, their problems were solved and that’s why the plans for a third Tron film fell apart years ago.
I have high hopes for this film because I love the franchise.
Denis Villeneuve hands down. The guy has never made a bad mainstream film yet. Some would argue Enemy is his worst, and even then it’s not really a bad film.
Oh yes! Villeneuve is my favorite director working currently. I’d probably agree that Enemy is his worst, but it’s still a great film. Dude just doesn’t miss.
This has been the trend for the last decade now. I’ve been avoiding trailers for ages, and many studios like putting straight up spoilers in them. If I’m already interested in a movie I skip trailers completely and just go to watch it.
They love to blame flops like this on things like feminism, but generally it’s just because Disney has no idea what they are doing anymore after killing off the A-listers and then releasing nothing but wet farts for the last five years.
Yeah, I feel like Avengers: Endgame was an ending for the MCU. I’m not complaining, because a good story needs to have an ending, but I’m also not motivated to see superhero movies coming out after Endgame (at least not cosmic-scale superhero movies - I’ll always have a soft spot for Peter Parker).
That and they’ve oversaturated the market and made it hard for non fans to keep up. When you have to watch 2 5-8 hour Disney plus shows just to understand who the characters are in the movie (Maria Rambeau and Kamala Khan) then Disney as a company is probably doing something wrong. Comic people might love it but everyday joes not so much.
Yep. In order to understand this film, you have to have watched the Captain Marvel film, the Wandavision TV series and the Ms. Marvel TV series. Meaning this is basically a way to tie you down to Disney+ so you don’t miss out.
Yeah it’s like the films are kind of safe cash grabs, but then they also have this barrier to entry. Even as a fan of marvel I couldn’t finish all the mini series because some of them just don’t grab me, and then what?
They’ve made it hard for even the die hard fans to keep up.
One of the major reasons I never liked comic books was there was always a hundred different storylines going on. That’s now crept into the MCU and it’s just no longer fun to try to keep up with
Not to mention how expensive it is to go to the movies! For us, this has less to do with how medium the marvel movies have been and more that a single ticket is a month of a streaming service and I already cut all our streaming services. If I decide to splurge, it’s going to be on a month of content, not two hours.
I’m calling it now: as soon as some casting is announced or stills shown there’s going to be a massive shriek from chuds over the 1-2 PoC actors portraying Hylians and they’ll pretend they’re actually just mad because lore says Hylians are white or some bullshit
