wintermute_oregon, in [DISCUSSION] [SPOILERS] - THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER - Ellen Burstyn, Leslie Odom Jr., Olivia O'Neil, Lidya Jewett

This movie was very bad.

I just rewatched the original and was going to check this out but it is universally panned. Every opinion I’ve watched/read/listened to says it’s terrible. David Gordon Green just seems to want to ruin all these classic horror franchises. What’s next?

wintermute_oregon,

It’s nothing like the original. It’s filmed really well. Two of the actors are good.

The whole story is a d rate horror that makes zero sense.

ugh, so disappointing. The only positive I’ve heard from this movie is Ellen Burstyn demanded that instead of her pay, they set up a scholarship for young actors. That’s awesome.

wintermute_oregon,

She dialed it in. I won’t ruin it for you but she’s so bad In the movie. Not because she lacks talent but the garbage they have say and what happens to her character is garbage.

The makeup is actually decent. Lighting. Etc. all good.

Story is just awful. They plan to make two more. I don’t see how as this was bad.

There was one jump scare. Otherwise nothing. No real horror. My girlfriend said she’s never been bored in a horror movie or felt so bored

Yes, I heard she is barely in the movie. And the other cameo I heard about is nothing.

Yeah, I can’t believe it’s a planned trilogy. It does seem that DGG may not be returning to direct though, so that’s promising. From what I’ve heard about the story of this and based on how Haloween went, he seems to be obsessed with the community banding together to fight. And that just doesn’t make sense for an exorcism. I will watch it at some point just for curiosity sake, but I don’t think I will be spending money on it.

wintermute_oregon,

The other cameo was disappointing. Very flat and needless.

I like rogue one and the cameo for Vader was incredible. That’s how a cameo should be done.

This was just a cameo to that person was in it.

Yup, there should be a reason for a cameo, not just a “hey remember this person”

elucidated_block, in Is It Still Worth Going to the Movies?

With few exceptions I find that being in a theater improves the experience. At home I can pause and go pee, I can eat normal food, and I don’t have fucking dry eye from the AC blasting.

iheartneopets, in [DISCUSSION] [SPOILERS] - FOE - Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal

I can’t believe that anything with Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal could be so panned by critics. It must really be a stinker of a film if even those two acting powerhouses can’t save it :/

Qualanqui, in Did anyone see No One Will Save You?

Fantastic movie, I especially liked the body horror aspect they used with the ETs, the way they moved and the huge long limbs etc.

Spoiler time though, I reckon it was all the parasites. The only way they can survive and propagate is by assimilating new hosts, that’s why there were a bunch of different ET species but they all looked uniform and they were all sexless too because the bodies are just vessels for the parasite, they have no need to reproduce. Also why the ETs didn’t care she ganked those other ETs, the parasites escaped and there were plenty of new hosts to be had, it was only when she tried to crush the parasite that they got angry.

And the end bit where the ETs are talking about what to do with her and that ET’s throat is vibrating, it’s because the parasites are discussing what to do with her and not the hosts. The tall classic ETs are powerful telekenetics so it would stand to reason they’re equally powerful telepathics too so they wouldn’t need to talk vocally.

So I reckon the parasites cooked up the “perfect world” shown at the end to keep the humans minds docile while the parasites piloted their bodies around, assimilating new species.

wintermute_oregon, in [DISCUSSION] Saw X (Spoilers)

I am going tonight. I love saw even with it’s flaws

doesitwork, in Did anyone see No One Will Save You?

I just saw this too and thought the scenes played so well with the lack of dialogue. I enjoyed the aliens as they weren’t very typical Hollywood aliens. I’d rate it 8/10 and suggest it for any sci-fi thriller lovers

Twinkletoes, in Did anyone see No One Will Save You?

I really enjoyed it too

CreativeCider, in Which PG-13 film made the best use of its one allocated F-word?

The fact that we have to be shielded from the bad word “fuck” in media in this day and age is somewhat outrageous in itself.

FriendlyBeagleDog,

I find it amusing that language is classified based upon frequency of use. If your average thirteen year old hears fuck once, maybe they’ll be okay - but how profane for them to hear it twice or even three times in a two hour timespan.
