I want to live in this neighborhood so badly. If anyone can get me into a rental in that neighborhood, I will fly the flag of Bajor!

You may be in a neighborhood like that already! You just need to be the first to fly the flag.

My nearest neighbor is a km/half a mile away, and she has no interest in star trek. The only flag she flies has MAGA on it :(

merc, in Undercover Boss: The Next Generation

This makes me wish even more for a Star Trek spinoff about the lowest-ranked people on a starship.

Even aside from its cartoonish style and stories, the characters in Lower Decks are too high ranking and too involved. They’re ensigns, and they often interact with the captain. They’re almost never in the dark about what’s happening, and often they’re instigating things.

What I want to see are the non-commissioned people, like Chief O’Brien in his TNG days. It would be really interesting to see things from the PoV of a character who had no say in what was happening, who didn’t really know what was happening except in rumours, and the only time they heard from the top-ranking officers was in ship-wide announcements and so-on.

I’d especially like to see a security team of literal red-shirts beaming down to a hostile planet. Not as part of a standard away team involving the highest ranking officers on the ship. I want a squad of NCOs who are expendable to go down to secure a site so that it’s safe enough that the first officer and doctor can beam down. So many of Star Trek’s episodes are about politics, espionage, secret deals, etc. I’d love to see things from the PoV of a red-shirt security NCO who isn’t cleared to know any of that, but is just told to beam down and secure the landing zone / beam-in zone. Or, better yet, is part of a team that’s sent out in a shuttlecraft weeks ahead, and has to set up a stealthy observation post and camp out, waiting for the Enterprise to arrive. I want NCOs in dirty work gear, not clean uniforms, camping out on a lonely planet not because they’re stranded, just because they have orders to set up the site and wait for the ship.

Allowing the rotational periods of the planet to continue and liquid dihydrogen monooxide to immobilize me. Allowing the rotational periods of the planet to continue and liquid dihydrogen monoxide traversing subterranean layers. Into the azure colored atmosphere once more, when the currency has been expended. A single moment in the years that consist of a lifespan and liquid dihydrogen monooxide traversing subterranean layers.

And here’s me about two hours away from my copy of the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual to debunk this obvious joke with a picture of all the architectural diagrams where it calls out places where one might find a head, including, IIRC, the Ready Room, of which I imagine Riker probably avails himself on the regular.

Why yes, I am fun at parties…

Just google it if you don’t understand lol. Not that hard

If you don’t understand the references you wouldn’t find the jokes funny anyways

Edit: the gif is just a joke people

Empricorn,

You’re alienating people. Again, that’s your right, but don’t you think “Community Information” should contain information about your community…?

For the record, I have enjoyed many posts from Star Trek communities, but it’s annoying that I don’t know what this one is about and absolutely nothing is provided…

fartsparkles, in WTF is a risa!?

c/All browser here and not a subscriber of this community. But as a fan of Star Trek, I find this post pretty hilarious. Especially as Risa is part of at least four of the shows, at least one movie, several books, multiple games, RPG manuals, and more.

I imagine a hypothetical tatooine@starwars.website where the community posts nothing but pictures of sand with titles like “The beautiful view from my apartment” and someone dropping into that community to complain “what even is a tatooine!? all i can see is brown. why are you alienating non-starwars fans?

Or football@sport.website “Why is everyone running after spheres? Who are all these people? Why don’t you explain what a football are in your sidebar? Why are you alienating people who don’t have feet spheres?

Not everything on the internet is for you or required to cater to you. Rather than share negativity, simply try tapping on a different hyperlink instead and find something that is for you.

I solved this for myself by googling Risa. It wasn't difficult and I didn't have to complain to anyone, or declare that I was leaving and never coming back or whatever.

PM_me_your_vagina_thanks, in WTF is a risa!?

What is it about "Star trek memes and shitposts" you're incapable of understanding? Can you not google "star trek risa" to see where the name comes from? Why are you all up in here trying to play the victim like everyone's out to get you, when you're determined to live in the ignorance a 2 second google spree and reading comprehension could solve?

Nice drama bait you got there, it sure would be a shame if someone were to post ghost sex in it.

Gh05t, in WTF is a risa!?

Same thing happened to me. I realized it was trek memes. Didn’t understand the relevance of Risa. Googled on memory alpha and found out. Had a good laugh at the joke as it were. Understood why there was no written out explanation of the naming. It’s part of the spirit and injokeness of the place.

The reason people are antagonistic is because it’s all coming across a bit entitled.

It’s just trek memes. Chill. You’re going to be ok man.

I shit thee not, this actually happened to me.

I applied for cosmetology class when I was in high school. No one questioned it at all because not only was I a blatantly obvious nerd but I was also the only openly gay guy in the school. First day I’m told to meet in a room I didn’t even know existed. Fucking mirrors everywhere. Circular tables around the mirrors with decapitated heads for as far as the eye could see, all with horrific hairstyles and blank, expressionless faces. Went in. Sat down. Realized I was the only one in the room with a set of testicles and started to slowly piece together where I done majorly goofed.

Class was surprisingly good. I can french braid now. I did fail however because the teacher hated me. Not only was I gay, which she didn’t like, but I wasn’t a “stereotypical” gay guy which she somehow found more infuriating. A dude who didn’t come off as particularly effeminate but was comfortable enough doing peoples hair. 2 weeks before the final class she ‘lost’ my module and expected me to make up the entirety of the semesters work in 2 weeks. All worked out. She broke her ankle the next year after someone got berated so hard they pissed themselves. Janitor was on the way to clean it up, she wasn’t looking where she was going, and slipped in it and fell down a nearby set of stairs.
