A dangerous mistake to make

ChickenLadyLovesLife, (edited ) A weird thing I’ve noticed about “correlation does not equal causation” is that some people actually end up thinking it means “correlation does equal not causation” - i.e. if A and B are correlated then A does not cause B (and B does not cause A). A more accurate expression would be “correlation does not necessarily equal causation”.
doingthestuff, Everyone who injests dihydrogen monoxide ends up dying as well. Be careful out there, the more you know…
vale, EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO CONFUSES CORRELATION AND CAUSATION ENDS UP DYING
MyFairJulia, ![]()
And nobody is doing anything about DHMO to put an end to this!
Sylver, I thought this was a threat or policy proposition at first
theodewere, ![]()
only as far as we know

Woooooosh
Lath, I'm confused. Is this correlation or causation?
Assman, ![]()
First one, then the other
dalekcaan, Correlation. Causation would be if confusing the two were literally killing them.
fossphi, It’s clearly confounding variables
Zozano, So if I never get them mixed up, I’ll live forever?!
marcos, (edited ) All of the people that will live forever affirm the consequent.
NewDark, Sounds like you just mixed them up. RIP
Zozano, (edited ) Nah man, I just told you. I’ll live forever, therefore, I didn’t mix them up. NORIP
tdawg, We’re all going to die!
Seraph, ![]()
While true, the people who didn't confuse them also ended up dying.
Septimaeus, (edited ) Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the joke, man :)
