520,

I'm sure the cutting of water and electricity to an entire population was something the Israelis were forced to do too...

That's not the case at all. These kind of Trojan operations are fly-by-night setups, and have the advantage of being able to react far faster than the official Devs. By the time you as the dev even know of the app's existence, they've already infected hundreds. And when you do get round to filing a takedown notice, they'll be back up the next day under a different name.

Even Nintendo can't get copyright infringing shit off Play Store in any fast capacity. Heck, Google will even run ads for people blatantly breaking copyright laws.

Edit: and that's before considering that Google won't let them onto play store and being only source available excludes them from eligibility for official F-Droid repos. They're going to have an absolute bitch of a time dealing with fakes and Trojans, even if they didn't release the source code at all

520,

It is open source but you can’t publish modified code (this is to ensure there will be no malicious forks like there was with newpipe)

  1. that is not open source. That is source available.
  2. because we all know that license agreements are a line that trojan distributors will not cross. Not malware distribution, not hacking laws, but copyright infringement. They'd never do that at all.
520,

Enterprise security software tends to err much more on the side of caution.

There are plenty of Windows features who's usage will flag because they are also favourite tactics by actual threats, such as Powershell one liners. Bonus if it's in Base64.

520, (edited )

You mean the Tensor chips that don't appear until 6th gen, even though the project supports 5th and 4th gen?

They also literally state:

Devices need to be meeting the standards of the project in order to be considered as potential targets. In addition to support for installing other operating systems...

And

Devices with support for alternative operating systems as an afterthought will not be considered.

This pretty much rules out 99% of smartphones. I would argue this even rules out non-Pixel favourites such as the OnePlus lineup, even though I'm writing this on a Lineage-loaded OnePlus 7T. Support for other ROMs is there but it's quite fucky. Add in what you said about firmware support and yeah, only the Pixel lineup would apply.

520,

Only because those are the phones most consistently open to modification

520,

It only has to go to someone with no chill and they will make the problems.

What part of the above sentence don't you understand?

If their society (neighbours, employers, friends and family etc.) doesn’t care about nudity, what kind of dire consequences can you have in the wrong hands?

The problem there is that you are assuming that literally everyone in their lives is chill with this kind of thing. Maybe that is true if you spend your entire life in one particular bubble that happens to accept nudity, but that is true of basically no one. There is always at least one prude that would try to raise hell in the name of Christianity or some other such religion or other shit.

520,

Like I just pointed out, 'something embarrassing' can have much dire consequences when put in the wrong hands.

It only has to go to someone with no chill and they will make the problems. The place they live in might be chill, but that doesn't mean there will be zero consequences.

520,

You won't care, but your employer might, to the point where they fire you. Your partner might, to the point where they leave you. Your overbearing family members might, to the point where they put out an 'honour killing' hit on you, or do the deed themselves.

520,

Add 'dont use your computer or phone while naked' to the list. Spyware riddled machines with webcams can also be how these nudes come about.

520,

Now imagine said nudes being sent to your mum, your employer, your kids, etc, and the knock-on effect it might have on your life.

That is why they pay.

520,

And such quality shitposting too!

520,

That or he's been doing this non-stop for thirty years. You tend to cover a lot of scenarios in that time.

520,

The "active fucking warzone" that Russia themselves created with zero justification. Also they have been stripping the Ukrainian children of their identity

520, (edited )

Even if it did have a Nazi problem, how the bloody hell would it justify Russia's war crimes?

520,

Working with aggressor and commiting war crimes in Donbas wasn’t justification?

What war crimes were these? It's not like there was a war to begin with until Russia initiated one.

As for working with aggressors, would this be getting friendly with the EU and NATO? Gee, dunno why they'd want that kind of protection /s

All the Nazis (who want to murder Russians and were in Donbas) weren’t justification?

Every country has neonazis. Russia has neonazis. Should someone go and invade Russia then?

520,

Zelensky didn't know who the fuck this guy was and neither did the Canadian House Speaker who invited him, which is why the latter resigned after the incident.

https://www.npr.org/2023/09/27/1201951754/canadas-house-speaker-steps-down-after-inviting-nazi-veteran-parliament

And are you actually denying Ukraine’s murder of Donbas civilians?

What murders? Do you have anything other than baseless claims? Links, maybe? I seem to be the only one posting proof of my claims here, feels a bit one sided.

520, (edited )

The USSR had never worked with Germany beyond that of the rest of the world and worked far less than countries like the UK. To claim otherwise is ridiculous.

Hahahaha. Oh how very wrong you are.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union_in_World_War_II

On 23 August 1939 the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression pact with Germany which included a secret protocol that divided Eastern Europe into German and Soviet "spheres of influence", anticipating potential "territorial and political rearrangements" of these countries.

They planned with the Nazis to basically divide up Europe.

Finland was allied with the Nazis and was the aggressor agaisnt the USSR.

You mean the same Nazis that the USSR had a non-aggression pact with? The one that wouldn't get broken until 1941, a year after the war with Finland ended?

Also:

The Soviets made several demands, including that Finland cede substantial border territories in exchange for land elsewhere, claiming security reasons – primarily the protection of Leningrad, 32 km (20 mi) from the Finnish border. When Finland refused, the Soviets invaded.

Ummm...pretty sure this makes Russia the aggressor, not Finland.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_War

The Winter War had fuck all to do with the Nazis. Stop making shit up.

Maybe you could bring that up if Hunka was Finish or from the Baltics. He wasn’t. He was Ukrainian and that was specificed.

There were also Ukrainians that fought against both the Soviets and the Nazis. These were known as the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_Insurgent_Army

(Seriously, you should do some actual reading on Russia's history. Interesting stuff.)

520, (edited )

Ah yes, you have provided no proof in reality.

I've provided links to journalistic reports. You've provided nothing but 'trust me bro'.

Zelensky (and you and everyone else) knows what it means to fight agaisnt the USSR in WW2.

You do know there was a few years in early WW2 where the USSR was working with the Nazis, right? And fighting its own war with Finland? (the winter war) And annexations of the Baltic States and Romania?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union_in_World_War_II

Fighting against the USSR could mean that you fought for any of the above nations. Naziism wasn't the only thing to have happened during ww2, you know.

So you are essentially denying war crimes agaisnt Donbas civilians. If you don’t know about them, I advise you to stop speaking on them

Have you considered providing sources? Or literally anything other than just 'trust me bro'.

Your knowledge on Russian WW2 history is quite...lacking, so I'm sure you'll understand why I don't take your word for it.

It is a general obstacle. Cancer cells are basically normal cells have mutated in such a way that they a) still survive, b) subdivide rampantly and c) fly under the radar of white blood cells, which normally pick up and deal with said anomalies before they become a problem.

So the trick is about getting white blood cells to detect amd attack anomalies that it previously wouldn't, while not attacking healthy cells.

520,

That and Persona 5 has very few differences on Switch Vs PC. Framerate is the main one, but it isn't the kind of game where framerate makes a real difference.

520,

Because a lot of tech culture is based upon the idea of sharing things with people, of enabling others, of bringing down barriers, of helping other people reach their potential. This is why open source communities are so prevalent, and even commercial tech offerings are sold to us with these ideals.

And all that is antithetical to many right wing policies, which are often about creating barriers and unneccessary limitations. Like DeSantis's Don't Say Gay laws. Or the defunding of community services like educational institutes. Or placing barriers on voting.

520,

I have a hard time deciding what to do with this.

On the one hand... Dude, even as someone who loves dark humour, I couldn't bring myself to make a cancer joke upon news of a diagnosis unless the person was a true shitstain on the earth, like Trump.

On the other hand...that was fucking brilliant and works on so many levels.

520,

Then the argument would have been about died/slain.

No one is imagining 500 deaths in a string of events is people peacefully passing away in the night.
