AA5B, to memes in How could the EU do this??

EUxit? Didn’t the EU exit from the UK a couple years ago?

AA5B, to mildlyinteresting in Oil prices crashed 19% from their peaks—here's why

I’m looking for the (long, drawn out) end of the gasoline industry, where we enter a virtuous cycle of:

  • reduced demand
  • lower prices
  • a few fossil fuel companies cut back or go out of business
  • reduced supply
  • higher prices
  • more usages switch to renewables
  • repeat
AA5B, (edited ) to lemmyshitpost in Very powerful flashlight

An underrated fact about LED flashlights is that even cheap ones can be as brights as high end flashlights with incandescent/halogen/xenon bulbs. I grew up always trying to find one bright enough, now it’s usually not a concern. I usually have the luxury to care more about convenience and form factor, than brightness.

AA5B, (edited ) to upliftingnews in Solar cell prices plunge to all-time low

That’s seems ridiculous: where are you? Are you sure that’s just solar, or would it also include batteries, maybe a “solar roof”, instead of solar on the roof? As far as I know, most of the systems (in us at least) are designed for shingled roofs: do you have tiles or slate, or something?

Where I live in the northeast us, it’s typically $20-30k for solar panels on my roof, only. I don’t need batteries because I’d stay grid-tied and my roof is pretty new. That’s still ridiculously expensive and beyond any reasonable payback but state incentives make it much more reasonable. They claim 4-7 years payback but since I can’t follow their math, it goes into the bin with the rest of advertising hogwash

AA5B, to movies in Box Office: ‘The Marvels’ Gets Grounded With MCU’s Second-Lowest Opening Day Ever

Interesting to see the general negative impressions contrasted with the other column here saying how great it is.

I’m still deciding whether to see it in theaters - I’m a huge fan of the Marvel universe and still want more superhero movies. Iman Vellani does a great job with an excellent character, and I loved how the story connected with her culture. Fantastic. However Captain Marvel was pretty much a non-entity and we had no idea who Monica Rambeau will be yet - I hope the movie gave some much needed character development

AA5B, to memes in Vegan food: The west vs India

I was lucky enough to travel to India once, and try some great food … I wanted to be vegetarian while there, simply because it was so good. The guys thought they were being helpful pointing out meat dishes everywhere we went, but it was typically an afterthought on the menus, not well prepared, not worth eating.

— In an American restaurant the focus is on meat and it is well prepared so that’s what I’m looking for

— in my limited experience with restaurants in India, the focus was on foods that didn’t have meat, and was very well prepared, so that’s what I’m looking for

As long as the vegetarian option is a substitute, or an option, or doing without, rather than the focussing on a good meal, most of will have no reason to select it, no reason to expect it to be a good choice

AA5B, to lemmyshitpost in I'll just be over here setting a new record

Every day for a full month!?!?!?

AA5B, to memes in Magic school bus. What have they done to you...

Adventure Time is really underrated. As an adult it’s hard to watch the hallucinogenic drug addled animation, but if you close your eyes and put your hands over your ears for the screaming, you’ll find it’s very well written

AA5B, (edited ) to lemmyshitpost in Very basic expectations

That guy is going to get hit hard by reality one day…. Everyone is a gamer and a mere 22 years is all of gaming history?

AA5B, to asklemmy in Does noone train their dogs anymore?

I hold my dog tight to me when anyone is near, but she is very reactive to other dogs. I like to think I have a clue and put in the effort, but we got her as a four year old rescue who had been abused and spent a year in a kennel. There’s only do much you can do: she got rejected from boot camp, and no one wants to risk their pet near a ferocious looking adult animal of her size. This kind of training really has to be done with a puppy, and is much more difficult when someone doesn’t

My town just built a new rail trail near me and I’m kind of sad that I really can’t walk her on it, with the number of dogs already there

AA5B, to science_memes in abandonware empires

Many years ago, I worked for a software company that included code escrow for our customers. If something happened to is, they could unlock the code and support it themselves.

It can be done, but probably only is in industries with strong companies for customers

AA5B, (edited ) to asklemmy in Which carbonated soft drink is the best?

Dr Pepper!

But I have to say Jarrito Tamarind soda is really good

AA5B, to mildlyinteresting in An "airport neighbourhood" where people can store their planes in their yard and taxi directly to the runway

I gave up flying to have kids. Probably worse for pollution

AA5B, to homeassistant in Haier, the air conditioner maker, takes down open source third-party Home Assistant integration

Wow, and it is a real lawyer? I e had employers with benefits that sound similar but I think only get things like templates for common documents like wills and contracts that you can get anywhere, or “free” co suits like you can get anywhere.

I actually do phage a upcoming minor legal need this year, and they couldn’t even tell me , using that as an example, what would the benefit cover?

AA5B, to lemmyshitpost in Crypto genius

It’s not that clearcut: they have various tricks to keep it alive, if they know where you are. This is why you never admit to a debt nor pay the token amount they offer; both are tricking you into legally claiming responsibility, so they can keep the debt alive
