What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

I’m still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don’t trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What’s the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?...

Anticorp,

Kagi. Nothing else even comes close. Kagi is what Google used to be, before they decided they’ll show you whatever is profitable, rather than what they know you’re looking for.

Anticorp,

As usual, it’s actually somewhere in-between the two.

Anticorp,

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot.

Anticorp,

Yes, and it’s trivial to retask with the AC97 HD Audio program in Windows, but I couldn’t find an equivalent program for Linux.

Anticorp,

I do use Linux, and I’m usually glad about it, but I wasted an hour last night trying to figure out how to change my microphone port to a subwoofer port, and never did solve the problem. Linux is awesome, but sometimes basic stuff is ridiculously difficult or impossible.

Anticorp,

I know a guy who has always taken 10x more substances than anyone else, and seems to still crave more. I watched him eat an entire handful of Percocet once, and then work all day like it was nothing. Half of one of the pills he took knocked me on my ass. I puked, then passed out, and slept for six hours. He was eating like 8 of them at a time, several times per day. He does the same thing with alcohol, and any other drugs he can get his hands on.

Anticorp,

One could even say it sounds like “incoherent mumbling”.

Anticorp, (edited )

The audio port for headphones and headsets. Replaceable batteries. Extendable storage. Fuckers charge 100x more for every little upgrade now.

Anticorp,

“I’m smarter than this meme, and I know more!”

Anticorp,

Nah, he threw it on the ground. DUH!

Anticorp,

I haven’t opened any Christmas presents yet. We’re having a late Christmas due to crazy schedules for everyone involved.

Anticorp,

That’s a cell phone!

Is it actually dangerous to run Firefox as root?

I have a few Linux servers at home that I regularly remote into in order to manage, usually logged into KDE Plasma as root. Usually they just have several command line windows and a file manager open (I personally just find it more convenient to use the command line from a remote desktop instead of directly SSH-ing into the...

Anticorp,

It’s about as dangerous as using IE in the old days, or Edge in administrator mode.

Anticorp,

Exposed for what? Is it a blackface thing? I guess I don’t get it.

Anticorp,

I’m assuming by “we” you mean the US Government. Is that right?

Anticorp,

Each tribe was/is an independent nation, with their own ideals, beliefs, social structures, etc… There’s a reason why I said “most” and not “all”.

Anticorp,

Well I hope it was clear that I wasn’t even remotely implying they/we are primitive and should be subservient. I am Cherokee, and Choctaw. My great grandmother, and great grandfather are on the final rolls of the Dawes Act.

Anticorp,

Most tribes didn’t have a concept of land ownership, so they wouldn’t say “that we own”.

Anticorp,

Isn’t Santa omniscient? He should already know where the presents are, so he must be a sadist.

Anticorp,

Oh boy, you’re about to learn a lesson in humility and perseverance.

Anticorp,

I don’t get it. This is the second one in quick succession that I don’t understand.

Anticorp,

I want to thank Facebook for making it blatantly obvious to us that we should never get any brain implants. They’ll definitely use them to read your thoughts and push ads straight into your consciousness. Oh, and you’ll probably have to pay a subscription.

Anticorp,

I read once that your body does it when your blood is low in oxygen, but I have no idea if that’s true or not.
