ArbiterXero,

Right? Like “make sure you get a warrant” isn’t a hard answer.

ArbiterXero,

While this is conclusively stoned as “cpu” issues, in case anyone else finds this thread…

While your isp can’t read the data over the VPN, they CAN see that you’re using a VPN and intentionally slow down your connection with traffic shaping because you’re putting so much data through the vpn.

ArbiterXero,

Also an excellent point

ArbiterXero,

In many unzip utilities, they use temp files that you wouldn’t be paying attention to. These temp files will contain your credentials and you won’t know where they are or if they got deleted.

ArbiterXero,

What do the links look like on the start page?

The problem is that Tailscale gives your server a “magic” ip, which isn’t the same one as on your local network. On your local network, do you access them by port? Or reverse proxy?

Machine:8080 or service.machine.localdomain

ArbiterXero,

It’s not an intentional noise, it’ll be a shitty bridge rectifier.

It’s just a cheap shitty power supply.

ArbiterXero,

No, it’s nothing to worry about, it’ll be just a handful of super cheap parts in the power supply. Essentially when the power supply converts ac to dc, it has a bunch of standard parts, and if you cheap out on them, sometimes they make high pitched noises. The noises can vary in pitch too.

ArbiterXero,

Many “bettter” routers can do this, pfsense can do it.

The problem is that Apple TV may get removed from your local network, meaning you can’t air-play to it at all lol.

Unless your whole network is on the vpn.

ArbiterXero,

^ mic drop moment.

This is the men’s revolution that’s needed. The feminist revolution came, and was absolutely necessary, and now we need one for men. We didn’t keep up with the times.

ArbiterXero,

Oh for sure!

I’ve known several incels, and in my experience, their entitlement to sex is really just an extension of wanting to feel loved.

Men grow up in a near drought of love and physical affection. After about 5 years old, we can’t hug our best friends.

Then men are told that they will pick a blushing bride that will be everything to them.

And when that doesn’t work, they become bitter and don’t know what to do with the rejection, because they have shit coping skills and mix up their entitlement for love with an entitlement for sex.

It’s a mess. I’m not absolving the incels of their shitty behaviour, but I’m also not going to say that “they deserve to feel unloved”

But I think the solution starts with recognizing that the incels actually want love. In my experience, women want to feel loved, and THEN trust you physically with sex. This makes sense because the physical danger for women is very real. Men seem to do it backwards. They want to get physical first and then trust you with love, since emotional danger is very real to them.

Anyways I’ll stop rambling, this is a mix of facts and personal experiences, but I really stand by the general point.

ArbiterXero,

Thanks, I go through great pains to try and truly understand issues rather than “grab the pitchforks”

It’s all too easy to see someone as evil, rather than just a person hurting. Once you see the hurt, you have to be careful not to go all “bleeding heart” and excuse their crimes.

ArbiterXero,

This is literally the centre of the incel problem.

ArbiterXero,

I bought an older model from this company and it’s been spectacular.

I only reboot it when the power dies, unbelievably reliable and quality build

ArbiterXero,

Oh fuck I’d forgotten about that.

I knew I hated Sony, but I’d totally forgotten about that.

ArbiterXero,

A lot of it isn’t there anymore….

But because it was a hardware thing, the patch would involve rooting your phone, something most people won’t do.

ArbiterXero,

It was literally a perfect design.

The phone was already on by the time it was at your face.

I am sad for its loss

ArbiterXero,

I mean that’s kinda what lasers do…… but also interesting

ArbiterXero,

Well, I always figured that “x ray vision” was just eyes that were super sensitive to the natural background radiation everywhere, and not that they were actually transmitting x rays

Is anyone here using their hardware TPM chips for credentials?

I’m curious about the possible uses of the hardware Trusted Protection Module for automatic login or transfer encryption. I’m not really looking to solve anything or pry. I’m just curious about the use cases as I’m exploring network attached storage and to a lesser extent self hosting. I see a lot of places where public...

ArbiterXero,

The problem with this is that the key would be “machine based” and not “person”

So it’s better for “service accounts”

ArbiterXero,

This looks like the “switch” or “router” end of the cable, so it could be coming from the PC

ArbiterXero,

The aren’t storing it actively in something you can search at all times, but it’ll be in the “backups” and “restore” pieces still

ArbiterXero,

Ehhhh it’s flexible enough that I’d bet it can change its “identity” and make it seem like 1000 different devices

ArbiterXero,

They’re not all foxes, ice weasel is missing lol

ArbiterXero,

They’re telling you that these “private” spaces are allowing for child exploitation because it triggers exactly the thoughts you’re having now.

“Oh I don’t want that, I guess I’ll give up my privacy”

It’s an excuse. Apple had client side image scanning, cutting through ALL privacy. The program basically found 0 child porn images, but instantly that it existed, governments wanted to use it to censor images they didn’t like.

It’s a lie, it always has been. “Won’t people please think of the children” has been used to create horrendous lies of policy since the beginning of time.

You know what existed before these services? The same evil that existed after them.

We can ban knives because a few people stab others with them, but ultimately if your goal is to stab someone, you’ll use what you have available. Perhaps a fork? And society will no longer have knives, but is that actually a reasonable answer? I mean there are no knives allowed in prisons, and they still make decent shanks .

Killing privacy to solve child exploitation is just a nice lie they sell you to convince you that your privacy doesn’t matter. Facebook has zero privacy and it’s currently the biggest distributor of child porn. It’s a huge problem, and clearly the lack of privacy didn’t solve it like they said it would.

ArbiterXero,

Because they’re distracting you with bullshite problems.

For example, gay marriage. There’s a simple answer that appease everyone…… the government doesn’t regulate marriage, they regulate “civil unions”

You just change all the official paperwork to call everyone’s “marriage” a civil union and let the people decide if they want to call it a marriage or not. Who the fuck cares?

But no, they made it a culture war. “The gays are destroying society and they’re gonna make our kids gay” Vs “They are denying the gays marriage and next they’re going to start assassinating them”

Left or right, they both crave power and are selling us out for it.
