Nowadays I find a lot of games feel like too much work and/or anxiety when I just want to relax for like, 30 minutes to an hour after a long day. On the other hand, the games specifically designed to help you unwind just feel boring imo....
Many, many people have been fighting over the land for thousands of years if you really want to go back. As far as I’m concerned, the land belongs to whoever can hold it.
Even if it’s ruled illegal in the US, there’s nothing stopping AI companies from moving their operations to Japan where copyright doesn’t apply to training data.
I moved from Lemmy.ml because I liked the name of Lemmy.world and it ran a newer Lemmy version which meant I could make communities. I moved from Lemmy.world because they defederated from piracy communities they didn’t even host (but for some reason still kept the small piracy community they DID host) From thelemmy.club...
The issue is that a community on any platform is made by the average users, not the moderators. If you splinter a community into three competing communities, you will probably severely damage its integrity as a whole. It’s similar to the issue that some Discord servers have, where they tell people to take discussion from the main channel into different channels. More often than not, this kills the discussion because few people actually move to a different channel, with most opting to drop the discussion entirely.
A few people shouldn’t have complete ownership over something that exists because the people under them make it so.
Send them to the office? Sure. The principal also has those two options, for the most part. Suspending students is something we only do in very rare circumstances, but they really, really try to avoid it, because so often, kids are acting out because of stuff at home, so suspending them only makes the behaviour worse.
As someone who was bullied all the way until the start of high school, I would probably look the other way if my hypothetical children seriously hurt someone over repeated bullying. I think any alternative is better than that for everyone involved.
Replace “Israeli Ethnostate” and “Jewish People” with “Palestinian Ethnostate” and “Palestinian People.” If you can’t do that without it sounding like hate speech, then your post is antisemitic.
This whole thing has given antisemites plausible deniability to express their hateful views. It’s impossible to tell who is anti-Israel because of antisemitism and who is anti-Israel for other reasons.
I appreciate the work you put into this, and I’ve been trying to think of how to respond. I guess my experience has just been different. I went to university and graduated with a BSc right into COVID. I had decent grades and my degree was from a well-known university. I applied to jobs regularly.
I wasn’t able to get a job for a year. After I started, no one wanted to give me any help. They just expected me to learn everything on my own. I couldn’t even get clarification on what they wanted me to do most of the time. The company tried to pressure me into working unpaid, undocumented overtime to make up for this. After not even a year, they terminated my contract. It took me another year to get a second job, and my contract was terminated after three weeks with no reason given.
I always worked hard in school and that was enough for me to get by. However, it feels like, in the real world, you have to constantly be comparing yourself to others or you will fail. You cannot succeed if you concentrate purely on yourself and what you’re doing, because your boss, or your hiring manager, is always going to be comparing you to your peers. If you are so inclined, you can start your own business, make your own product, or whatever. If you do this, there is little to no safety net if you fail though. Society runs on comparing you to everyone else and it sucks.
I guess where the D2 comparison falls apart is that it took me 4 years and over $20,000 to get an undergrad degree that, theoretically, gives me the knowledge and skills to perform a job. I started playing D2 in March of this year and I’m already at pinnacle cap on every class, with a fully masterworked loadout for every subclass. It’s really hard to pivot in the real world.
That’s because people in cyberpunk settings actually have the volition and guts to make change happen, and to put themselves through adversity against all the odds. People in the real world probably won’t attend a peaceful protest in their area for something they support if they aren’t in the mood.
