They are 1. Slow on launch and on boot. 2. Very opaque and offer little control. 3. They don’t integrate well. 4. Proprietary. 5. Probably most importantly, Canonical has made 0 progress and demonstrated 0 interest in improving issues 1-4.
I considered looking at R once. As a data scientist and an experienced Python user, maybe I’ll see something useful. Then I learned that R uses <- for variable assignment and = for equality evaluation, and I stopped learning because I would make that mistake if I learned to switch back and forth for the rest of my life.
There’s a theater near me that offers intermissions with every movie whenever you ask for it. They serve quality cocktails and full meals with the movie, and you can have a dog on your lap the whole time if you choose at no charge. It’s where I plan on watching Killers of the Flower Moon actually.
