BaardFigur,

Norwegian here. Healthcare isn’t entirely free here, but it sure is affordable. I’m not sure if entirely free is a thing to strive for. A minor cost helps upper the bar slightly, so people don’t annoy the doctors office with stupid minor stuff (which is already happening).

Higher education is also not entirely free, just really cheap. But as long as you get a stipend (everbody that finish their study does), the state end up giving you more money than you spend. So yes, free higher education is great, I feel sorry for americans.

Affordable housing: should that be free? I agree it should be affordable though, but how can that be achieved? It’s basically the free market deciding

BaardFigur,

While the current state of capitalism is sort of broken (doing all kinds of evil stuff in the name of shareholder profit), doesn’t make all elements of it broken.

I’m pretty happy to be able to own personal stuff for example. Like a house. Or smaller stuff, like a phone. There also needs to be some kind of mechanism actually encouraging people to contribute to society.

BaardFigur, (edited )

Yeah, that works so well that exactly zero countries, among 8 billion people have implemented it

BaardFigur,

This image is fake. The snow always melts just before Christmas

BaardFigur,

This men’s rights nonsense is stupid

Mens rights is not stupid at all.

They’re not degrading men. They just know that if someone finds out that boy was the ugly girlfriend photo, the worst insult they can reasonably make out of it is “dude, you’re an ugly girl.” To which the boy can say, “yeah, that was the whole point.”

You’re right about that though

BaardFigur, (edited )

Men having rights is not stupid. “Men’s Rights” is stupid, because we already have them. Any man who has fewer rights than a woman in modern society is discriminated as such because of something about them other than their gender.

That’s not quite true. At least not in Norway. There are more women than men in higher education in Norway. Despite that fact, gender points is still a thing, and it still favours women heavily. These points makes it easier to get into the study you want.

The school system in general is designed around women. Girls in Norway are getting higher grades than boys when the tests are not anonmyized. When they’re anonymized, the genders ties. Looks like the teachers subjective opinions has some negative implications for a lot of boys future

In general, a lot of places were women have it worse than men are being adressed. Sometimes retarded stuff are being adressed, like women fighting to get free menstrual products (paid for by taxes, so basically paid for by men). Yet 75% of suicides are done by men, and it’s not being properly adressed.

I can go on a lot btw, I barely just scratched the surface.

BaardFigur,

Hobbit was a word way before J.R.R. wrote his books, stupid that they were able to sue them

BaardFigur,

Git Fork has the same attitude. I bought it

BaardFigur,

Can I get a job at wherever you’re working? Im earning 60k $ a year

BaardFigur,

C++ Cad application, Norway, so not from a poor country. I know I’m underpaid but didn’t expect it to be that bad

BaardFigur,

6 years. I’m by no means an expert, but I’m not newbie either

BaardFigur,

Why do you tip someone, for simply doing their job? Don’t think I’ve tipped ever

BaardFigur, (edited )

Thepiratebay.org has been blocked for almost 10 years in Norway, now. This doesn’t make a difference, whatsoever

I feel like the Steam Deck is the best proof of Gabe Newell's quote that "piracy is a service issue."

They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. That’s what Nintendo or Apple or most other companies do....

BaardFigur,

Piracy solutions can be made good too, though.

BaardFigur,

Don’t allow the apps sending you notifications in the first place

BaardFigur,

There’s a few others, such as GitHub pull requests, play store/fdroid updates, bank payment notifications, snapchat (for those that use that, reemember to turn of useless non-notifications). But for the most part, I agree. Turn em off

BaardFigur,

Id rather have a larger boot drive though. I actually have a 250gb boot drive. It’s so small

BaardFigur,

Better delete syswow64 while you’re at it

BaardFigur,

For me that doesn’t quite work out, because a lot of stuff wants to install itself on the main drive, and refuses to be installed on any other drives. Visual Studio is the best example I can think of. I don’t have the room for multiple installations of it, so I only have the 2022 version installed

Comment smart, don’t comment every line like this

int i = 5; // Assigns the value 5 into the variable i.

BaardFigur,

Comments also helps explaining why certain non-obvious decisions are made. E.g. a workaround for a bug in a library
