Baku,

When I was first developing my music taste I did this too. I had “songs I like 2018 edition”, “songs I like 2019 edition” then discovered Spotify and everything morphed into a singular “liked songs” playlist :D

Baku,

Interestingly, a quick google didn’t really answer this. It seems pretty split as to whether they can or can’t. I don’t think there’s really a definitive answer. My guess is that it probably depends where you fall (I imagine it’s a spectrum like most things), and some can, some cant

Baku,

It seems like most countries have some variation of this issue. When I had to apply for government assistance here in Australia, there was a whole debacle because as I discovered, I don’t actually have a middle name but rather 2 first names because my birth information was filled in incorrectly. So that caused issues because all 3 of the IDs they demanded listed different information. My student ID didn’t list my second name at all, my learner driver permit initialised it, and my birth certificate listed it in full.

Then my government service account messed things up too, because certain services have my 2nd name listed as either a middle name, or just a second first name so they decided that because I have different government services linked in “different names” I must be committing fraud

Baku,

There was actually another one he made I think mid way through the year, but then he deleted it

Baku,

Ay you’re that thing mercury is in sometimes. Is 2024 actually going to be the year it turns Gatorade?

Baku,

And where I am it’s been the 23rd for the last 17.5 hours so

I was at a hotel once and went to the bathroom while heating up some food. The microwave finished and beeped like 10 times then beeped every 15 seconds until I opened the door. I don’t really understand what problem that’s meant to fix, it’s not like the microwave keeps microwaving after it beeps and shuts off, nothing’s going to catch on fire

My drier at home does this too, although every 10 minutes as opposed to seconds, and I don’t understand that either. Washing machine I could understand since if you forget about it for too long it might go mildew-y, but once my drier is done, it’s done, and won’t turn back on until Its turned back on. A beep every 10 mins might be nice as an optional toggle or something for forgetful people, but it’s just plain annoying

Baku,

There’s certainly some of that here, although much less than Reddit and various other popular places on the internet. Something I’ve noticed about the disagreements here though, is that they don’t instantly devolve into abuse and name calling, and feels almost… Professional? In a way. It feels like the way people disagree here is less like how things genuinely are on the internet, and more like a disagreement in a workplace. Things stay civil and respectful, nobody’s abusing anyone else.

I’ve also noticed that different opinions can actually coexist here, like you’ll have a post with dozens of comments and 1 of those comments states an opinion, and then somebody with just as many upvotes makes an entirely separate comment with the opposite opinion. You never see that on Reddit, where any comment with an opinion different to whatever the main ones on that thread are will be downvoted into oblivion. Hell, it’s rare to even see a 2 posts in the same subreddit with differing opinions where one hasn’t been downvoted

Baku,

Yeah, my first account on Lemmy was actually on Beehive, but I was confused by their sign up process (there wasn’t a page update telling me I had to verify my email, it just happened in the background and didn’t appear to do anything when I clicked sign up). I sorted it out when I checked my email an hour later, but that killed the vibe for me. So then I made this account, but jerboa didn’t support Aussie zone at the time so I made a shitjustworks account and used that for a while until I started becoming more active in the Aussie zone communities and tried to jump ship just for the ease

But yeah, I saw quite a few people who were very confused about the whole instances thing and a few others that have jumped ship a few times because of it. And as I mainly browse local top day, then all top day once that runs out of content, and my instance federates with all the instances I want to interact with, I don’t see a reason to use either of those other accounts I created

It’s like those mirror covered buildings that reflect their surroundings, giving the impression of unbroken landscape

And it can actually work well! Until they forget they’re meant to clean them

Those photos don’t convey how genuinely hideous it is in person. It’s horrid

Baku,

Why you got beef with Mozi? They chill

Baku,

The grocery stores in my country make you scan a barcode on the bag every time. “Luckily” they pay their staff minimum wage and treat them like crap, so you can usually start bagging your stuff and most of the time nobody cares (not that I’d know from experience or anything)

Baku,

Don’t really see many Barbies anymore either tbf

What are your thoughts on fiber through the city?

After 16 years of living in my city, they will finally have city-wide fiber internet. I’m pretty stoked because the fastest internet I could possibly have is a WISP at 50gbps down and 10gbps up. Now I will finally have gigabit but it’s through the city, and I’m wondering if they will be more strict on illegal content...

Baku,

There’s also TubeArchivist which is sort of like a self hosted YouTube. It can pull videos automatically from channels you subscribe to and download them through yt-dlp and has some organisational capabilities too
