Bluefruit,

I’m not super familiar with docker so im sorry im not much help there but i noticed that you mentioned a ATnT router. Are you using them as an Internet provider?

If so, you might have a carrier grade nat which makes reverse proxy like this not possible even if you do get caddy server working. I had a similar situation with my jellyfin server.

I had caddy server working but when i moved and started using a mobile internet provider, i had to use a vpn tunnel like cloudflare or zerotier to get around it.

All this to say, id recommend finding that out so if that is the case you dont spend anymore time on caddy.

Good luck either way.

Bluefruit,

ATnT should be able to tell you for sure. I remember reading about another person facing a cgnat using ATnT on reddit while i still went there so it very well could be.

And fairly easy setup yea. I did mine using a windows pc for testing as i was kinda in between places at the time and thats what i ended up using for jellyfin as well. Just lives on my media pc at the moment. The docs are pretty straight forward.

I recommend that or zero tier which is even more dead simple. Both are good but cloudflare does care about how much bandwidth you’re using so just bear that in mind if you think you’ll use the server for anything else.

Both are vpn tunnels so either should work just fine.

Self hosting can get pretty overwhelming but i find that using docs in addition to youtube videos helps a lot. I also recommend giving Linux a go when you feel up to it. It can be a very nice option if you’re working with older hardware.

Bluefruit,

I like to plan for the future a lot. It helps motivate me to get stuff done and keep working for what i want.

But i also just take moments to appreciate what i already have. One of my favorite things to do is smell the air outside. Each season has a different smell to it and idk what it is but when i stop to smell that, life is good.

Know what you want and plan for it but dont stress out too much. It defeats the purpose of planing if its stressing you out. And even if you do plan, life will throw you curveballs. I like the phrase lifes a marathon, not a sprint a lot because i often feel like i HAVE to be doing more when i dont.

I’m only 26 so its not like ive had a lifetime of experience or anything. I got lots of time to do what i want. I’ll keep working hard to do what i swt out to but ill take time to enjoy what i love. I’ll keep making music, messing around with computers and ill still make plans even if i dont quite get there.

Bluefruit, (edited )

Ventoy is pretty great. Ive screwed quite a few usb sticks by flashing isos and now i can just put all the isos on one drive. Its a good tool.

Just moved to Linux: a follow up

I recently made a post discussing my move to Linux on Fedora, and it’s been going great. But today I think I have now become truly part of this community. I ran a command that borked my bootloader and had to do a fresh install. Learned my lesson with modifying the bootloader without first doing thorough investigation lol....

Bluefruit,

Thats good to know because Fedora seems to be where im heading when i make the switch as well.

Bluefruit,

Idk if anyone else has this but i get a weird flow state where i read the subtitles and its like the characters are talking in english but i if think about it, it stops.

Bluefruit,

Yea i use chatgpt to help me write code for googleappscript and as long as you dont rely on it super heavily and or know how to read and fix the code, its a great tool for saving time especially when you’re new to coding like me.

Why didn't anyone remind me the dual booting exists?

I was talking to my dad yesterday and he talked about how he dual booted windows and Linux in his college days. I immediately left to download Ubuntu, I feel so dumb for forgetting it’s an option. I literally only use windows so I can play Fortnite with friends. PSA: you can have both Linux and Windows, or you can use a vm in...

Bluefruit,

imo dual booting is kinda clunky. Id rather have a vm of windows tbh. I dont like restarting my pc to swtich OS.

But hey if you like it, more power to you man.

Bluefruit,

Ah I gotcha. Another option im considering is using a separate pc for windows and using a kvm to switch between them. That may be a good option for you as well if you can swing it.

Bluefruit,

Now that i get paid and dont hate my life i dont mind getting up early. Not ideal but yay money.

My education was a fucking joke and all the people who said that I’d miss highschool are wrong. Highschool and school in general was awful and i was very checked out for a large majority of it.

Bluefruit,

My dude they didn’t even teach me typing let alone cursive. They tried but my handwriting is trash to begin with.

And my only knowledge of Shakespeare came from drama class which real talk kinda thankful for because i found out real quick i do not care fo Shakespeare lol

Bluefruit,

I’m actually considering making this switch for the same reason. My 1070 ti is still a great card but its starting to struggle a bit with some games.

Bluefruit,

Openboard is my go-to as well. I like how customizable it is as well. I need bigger keys otherwise i fat finger everything lol.

Bluefruit,

Yea unless you’re ready to fix (or more likely redo /replace) a lot of existing things while you live there, I’d walk unless they make a really compelling offer.

Renovations are really time consuming especially when you have a job, family, etc. And living in a renovation can be exhausting as you have to work around all the fixes until theyre done or at least usable. I speak from experience unfortunately.

That said, if the place is liveable and you can break things down into more manageable parts, could be worth it if again, they make a really compelling offer.

Bluefruit,

As a fellow music maker i feel that. And absolutely, happy to help. Best of luck to you.

Bluefruit,

Me everytime i use a broswer without ublock. Ill open a link here in lemmy without opening it externally to firefox and dear god my eyes.

Ublock makes the internet a better place. Or at least it shoves the bad stuff under the bed lol.

Bluefruit,

Really the only good thing about credit cards is it helps raise your credit score. I only use them for that to be able to get a decent apr on a loan.Otherwise i would never use them.

Bluefruit,

Agreed. Food banks are literally designed for this scenario. They exist to help people put food on the table. Few scenarios actually require credit cards. No shame in accepting help when you need it. And you can always donate later when you’re on your feet. You cant ever give back if you’re dead from starvation.

I use my debit card for almost everything and use my credit card for small things to keep the usage low if i use it at all.

Bluefruit,

True there are more. I just typically dont use it otherwise i would rack up more debt. Using my debit card is the best way for me to track my finances.

Bluefruit,

Well now im curious what brand of wire stripoers they were

Bluefruit,

Agreed. People who dont respect you or your feelings aren’t your friends or at the very least not good friends.
