The funny thing is, electric cars help with the tire/brake dust and mined materials issue. Regenerative braking reduces the wear on brakes, and electric motors provide smoother power delivery, which reduces tire wear. As for the mined materials, electric cars generally take more material to make, but they are also easier to recycle, and the batteries themselves are able to be recycled in to even better batteries that they were when brand new.
Gonna further add, if there is 14" of snow on the ground and the roads aren’t clear, then with 99% of the SUVs, Trucks, and cars sold today, you aren’t, and you shouldn’t, be going anywhere.
That’s a design issue of the vehicle anyway, and not inherently related to the ICE vs EV drivetrain.
It’s a fair assumption that adding extra systems to the car makes it overall less reliable, but it’s not necessarily true. Electric motors, compared to IC engines, are extremely simple and reliable. The servicing guidelines for the electric drivetrain in my hybrid is essentially “replace the battery if it stops holding enough charge”, there is no schedule for any routine maintenance of those components. Adding the hybrid system also reduces the wear and tear on the conventional drivetrain and brakes. Hybrids can do regenerative braking, which means that (for my vehicle at least) most of the braking down to maybe 10mph is done by regen, which functionally has no wear and tear. The electric motors also assist the ICE at the times where peak wear and stress occur, reducing the load and stress on the motor, and extending it’s lifespan. By adding the hybrid system, the overall reliability and lifespan of the vehicle is increased rather than decreased.
First, motorcycles have a better fuel economy than cars, but they also produce more harmful emissions than a car because their smaller engines burn fuel less completely/efficiently, and there are fewer (if any) laws mandating tailpipe emissions standards for motorcycles.
Second, with all the entitled morons on the road who consider a few seconds of inconvenience more important than your life, who can’t put down their fucking cell phone, check their mirrors or use their turn signals, I consider it only a matter of time until a car accident happens. Motorcyclists lose every time they tangle with cars, and car drivers are a lot less aware of motorcycles, and more likely to get in an accident with them than other cars. Good luck.
Make sure you grab some “I did that” Biden stickers to slap on gas pumps. Really lean in to that “I make poor decisions and blame the wrong person for the consequences” energy.
It’s way more likely to kill pedestrians. Trucks and SUVs have terrible sight lines for pedestrians, especially children, and especially in front of the vehicle. They also are more damaging to pedestrians in an collision, and have much higher rates of injury and fatality than sedans, station wagons, and coupes. The X factor here is that a higher percentage of the less secure, less capable drivers buy larger vehicles to insulate themselves from other vehicles on the road, and they drive with that same mentality around pedestrian-rich areas.
Trucks and SUVs are terrible, and you should only buy one if you need one, otherwise you look like a fucking jackass.
do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...
I feel like new AAA title games are all about being “more” than the last game, instead of being fun. Everything is having a Call of Duty/Avengers syndrome, the bad guys have to be bigger, the music louder, the textures larger. Even games that don’t succumb to the annual release cycle still have to compete with the hype those games create. In the end, you end up with games like Fallout 4, instead of New Vegas.
Waiting for the engine to warm up a bit? Centering myself and dealing with distractions before I drive. Mapping out my egress routes and bailout locations after eliminating the parties specified in the verbal contract? All normal things you are supposed to do before you drive.
When Republicans were initially investingating the 2020 election in Georgia, they called in a “forensic imaging specialist” who said that they would be able to determine which ballots were fabricated. I got a lot of flack for questioning the guy’s credentials online, but literally his biggest accomplishment in life was inventing a crappy barcode scanner shaped like a cat, and it was a huge flop.
r/conservative was adamant that this dunce was going to overturn the election in Georgia…
Realized that with my new job I’m at $500/month for gas. Starting to seriously consider a hybrid or electric but damn they expensive. Either way might just need something more reliable than my 320k+ car....
Brake hold is a feature where when you are stopped and in drive, the car will hold the brake until you hit the accelerator. The idea is that in stop and go traffic, or at a red light, you can stop the car and then remove your foot from the brake and the car will hold it’s position rather than creep forward.
Well… It was trump who destroyed our trade agreements, and then renegotiated for less favorable trade agreements. He also put tariffs on imported goods. Oh, and he fired a bunch of diplomatic staff. And then there was the whole thing where he weakened consumer protections. Don’t forget about slashing our public health and pandemic response teams just a few years before a major pandemic. Tax cuts to billionaires too, now that I think about it, allowed the richest 1% to klepto even more stuff and charge the common man man for it.
Yeah, if Trump was president right now, I’d still blame him for all the dumb shit he did.
