ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I just bought a house from a guy who had been renting it out for thirty years and I’m now in the process of fixing all the shit he neglected during that time. I can’t believe that anyone was willing to rent this place for any amount of money, let alone the $1300/mo he had been getting for it. The kitchen ceiling was sagging down a foot in two places and held up literally only by the paint and caulk, thanks to mice - I got showered with mouse poop and urine-soaked ceiling tile material when I demo’ed it. The electrical outlets were all partially blocked by the baseboard radiators, which was probably a good thing because they were all ungrounded 1940s-era receptacles with the hot and neutral wires hooked up in reverse. One light switch caused the circuit breaker to trip as soon as I flipped it. Not a single door in the house could actually be closed (not even the front door) so I had to reset the hinges; one door looked like he had tried to fix the problem using a beaver with dental problems.

He sold the house as “rental ready” and I’m five months into the renovation now. I like to think the house appreciates my being here.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

This is how I end up snacking on 10-year-old saltines.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

“Bitches” while nodding politely.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I always thought the word “ginormous” (a portmanteau of gigantic and enormous) was totally modern, but then I read a book published in 1943 by a Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot which had “ginormous” in its glossary section.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I’ve gone through a skoolie (school bus converted to an RV) project and now most of a house renovation with one 1/4" Ryobi drill and one 3/8" Harbor Freight drill and they’re both somehow still going strong after five years of hard usage. I had bad opinions of both manufacturers before but not any more.

A weird thing I’ve noticed about “correlation does not equal causation” is that some people actually end up thinking it means “correlation does equal not causation” - i.e. if A and B are correlated then A does not cause B (and B does not cause A). A more accurate expression would be “correlation does not necessarily equal causation”.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

The Man Who Would Be King is my favorite. Also my favorite Sean Connery movie. By Jove.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

Aha, that’s why I never get what I want for Christmas: classic ASP.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

Any pic from a Reddit meetup was enough to convince me that trying to date via Reddit was a no-go zone.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

That shit when they hop around after being let out of the barn in the spring almost makes me regret all the burgers.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

Long before the '70s. The British arms manufacturing companies Vickers and Armstrong Whitworth merged in the late 1920s to become Vickers-Armstrongs Limited. Employees of the former Armstrong Whitworth were not happy about the merger and joked about being like choirboys - because they were being buggered by Vickers (i.e. “buggered by vicars”).

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

Just smoke a lot of pot with them (Go reference, anyone?).

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

Hmm, this makes me want to play Lemmings again for some reason.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

This is something that is always stated by people who are opposed to comments, but I’ve never seen any such thing in practice. If being mislead by incorrect comments is so common, there should be a bunch of stories around about disasters caused by them - and I’ve never read a single such story.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I’m from the camp that thinks if you’re trying to make a case (about any subject), you should start with your strongest point and work to your weakest point. Every argument I’ve ever seen against code comments starts off with the weakest imaginable points. Usually the first point made is sample code like “x = x + 1” with the absurdly unnecessary comment “add 1 to x” - as if that’s ever something that pro-comment programmers do. This video at least started off with a novel weak point (somebody using a comment with a magic number instead of making it a constant) although it’s just as weak as the “x = x + 1” argument.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

The company was run by morons so “Xerox” deserves being synonymous with “company run by morons”. But the actual Xerox employees who invented the basic GUI deserve credit for being the great inventors they were. Unfortunately I have no fucking idea who those actual people were.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I used to drink five 24 oz. coffees from Wawa a day, and I thought nothing of it until I did the math and realized that’s A FUCKING GALLON OF COFFEE. I now drink just one measured actual cup a day and it’s nice. It turns out blinking once in a while has its advantages.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I watch a lot of street food videos on Youtube, nothing angering or annoying about them at all. The weight gain is a problem, though …

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I used to play this game with my cat when he would come sit on my lap while I was sitting at my desk working on the computer. I would put a plastic bottle cap on the edge of the desk and he would immediately tense up, but he played it cool for a few minutes and acted like he didn’t care about the cap. Then suddenly the paw would fly out at light speed and knock the cap to the floor. Rinse and repeat like ten times in a row or more.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I had a girl in high school (high school!) literally say to me “when am I going to get to feel that dick of yours inside me?” and I blew it, thought she was just joking.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

Yeah, now I’m thinking there have been shitloads of cockroaches that I wasn’t aware of.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I’m a school bus driver and it’s genuinely depressing how often I see a parent waiting with their kid for the bus, face down in their phone instead of paying the slightest bit of attention to their child. I also find it depressing to see a person walking their dog while looking at their phone - not sure dogs actually give a shit but somehow they manage to look sad and neglected anyway in these situations.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I loved the Pogo comic strip (old shit from the '50s and one of the main influences on Bill Waterson for Calvin and Hobbes) growing up and it gave me the habit of using non-words like “momenterribly”. I know it makes people think I’m a moron and I don’t care.

It also gave me the habit of saying “Friday the 13th fall on a Tuesday this month”. Same effect and same apathy on my part.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

It’s amazing that Chad Smith, Flea and John Frusciante are all at top of their respective instruments, in a band led by a guy who isn’t even the best shitty rapper.
