Maybe some tech giant pumping money in a 3rd eco-system would help, i think it’s very likely to happen one day

Contend6248,

We literally already have Linux phones, but i would love to cut some bullshit in the middle and go more upstream one day

Contend6248,

Looks good, but if i wouldn’t know the origin, i might not know what this even is

Contend6248,

I LOVE how portable flatpaks are, other than some lines from fstab i just want to set the rest of the system new anyway.

Thank fuck i don’t use anything super complicated, so switching is a breeze for me.

Huh? It’s far easier, throw in your server IP+Port or DNS and quick connect your clients with a short code.

The bullshit claim solution by Plex makes me pull my hair out, especially on remote instances.

Even when running, it managed to break the database 3 times, with no repair tool of working, interestingly there are plenty, community built and official ones, so that problem is common.

Rebuilding takes a whole day with the intro-outro detection.

What a nightmare to administrate.

As someone who has bought a lifetime subscription a year ago i was enraged as my girlfriend told me that she got ads in Plex, turns out they just added their free streaming service in there without even asking, fuck them, Jellyfin evolved great!

Contend6248,

At that point i would be surprised if they didn’t

That is my advice to the people not having a clue what i’ve wrote. You don’t want to tell me that people not able to setup Jellyfin are full aware of anything they are doing with Plex?

Not everyone should self-host, especially not people unable to watch a 10 minute setup tutorial of Jellyfin, or god forbid, reverse proxies.

Dumbing down self-hosting below the bare minimum is dangerous, but to each their own.

Contend6248,

You’re free to have your own opinion

Contend6248,

You just eat what you know you like, if it’s good or bad is up to the person itself

Contend6248, (edited )

True, when i respond with the exact problem it usually gets fixed, interestingly even explained why it failed.

Great for learning

Contend6248, (edited )

Easy, get automation software like Radarr for movies and Sonarr for tv shows, add indexers like Drunkenslug to them, install and connect SABNZBD as the download client to Sonarr and Radarr and lets roll

Contend6248,

Sorry, you’re right

Contend6248,

Take a look at the pinned megathread of this community

Contend6248,

Plex which completely destroys it’s database all the time?

Look up the repair tools, it’s common.

Jellyfin has been rock solid.

Contend6248,

Get a reverse proxy and strong passwords if you share with your loved ones.

Contend6248, (edited )

True, only shitty thing i did was buying lifetime and using it for only two years until i finally dumped it, it corrupted the database 3 times and it isn’t able to be repaired with any tool i’ve found.

Recreating and rescanning for intro-outro detection literally took a day each time, fuck this.

There are so many databases hosted on that machine that i can eliminate hardware fault at that point.

Running Jellyfin has been a really flawless for over a year and intro-outro dectection + auto-skip is also available there, i’m only missing the advertisements of Plex, not in a good way though

Contend6248, (edited )

Your consile is a whole CoD machine now, only by accident, not that someone intended to do so

Contend6248,

What do you mean unused code, there are 3 complete unused games in there.

Download >100Gb = 5 maps, obviously

Contend6248,

uBlock Origin and Sponsorblock saving days of my lifetime and DarkReader saving my eyes.

Life is good

Contend6248,

If you want to, you can save some disk utilization with Autoscan: github.com/cloudbox/autoscan

It essentially gets poked by any *arrs that there is a new folder/file in a certain directory and contacts Jellyfin, which picks that up immediately, you can disable Autoscan in Jellyfin then and your content is quicker to access.

It supports multiple sources and targets, and you can even translate paths, in case it differs between source and target.

Contend6248,

True, these companies do us patient gamers a solid one.

It’s been easy to transition to one when the releases are majorly hot garbage.
