Not that person but I tried to do the secure cleaning mode where it zeros empty space but I think I was also downloading something at the same time. This was several years ago but I vaguely recall my system being unable to boot.

I know they said the mods were deleting posts about whatever it was but do you have a link to the discussion or proof?

The tip toeing around stuff definitely does get tiring but I think some people just flock there because there’s a lot of people and Reddit still dominates search results

I do prefer the abbreviated month with the yyyy mmm dd format. It makes things relatively easy to sort but you also don’t have to worry about confusing others if you are referring to the 10th month or day for example.

The only reason I could see is if you were speaking it. September 18th 2012 for example might sound a bit better than 18 September 2012.

Yeah kind of a similar story but on my iBook G4 I had trouble getting wireless internet working with modern distros because b43-fwcutter (I think) was unavailable. I ended up installing Yellow Dog Linux to get around it

Unrelated but paint.js.org is a web app similar to MS paint for those interested.

Is this VPN comparison breakdown trustworthy?

I’m shopping for a VPN providers, and really struggling to find a detailed and non-biased breakdown of the various options. A number of years ago, I recall finding an extremely detailed VPN comparison spreadsheet that had 30+ columns, which were contained criteria by which the VPNs were judged both quantitatively and...

It does seem a bit sporadic. Surfshark seems to be on top above other providers like Mullvad and ProtonVPN. It might have a bit to do with how it weights various criteria.

What VPN is best for you really depends on what you value. A bunch of people left Mullvad for example because they no longer offer port forwarding which can complicate things like bit torrenting for example.

I think the closest you can get to that is illegal numbers

Another example could be clean room design. Essentially reverse engineering code without using copyrighted code. Having someone on a team who has reviewed leaked code could compromise a project and make it more likely to be hit with a copyright claim if they slip up.

This has been an issue/topic of debate with multiple open source projects such as ReactOS.

I could be slightly off here but this is my understanding of it. I hope someone corrects me if I’m off base.

This major change won’t affect existing EndeavourOS users as they will be able to continue enjoying the Arch Linux-based distro with their favorite desktop environment. On the other hand, the devs removed the Sway, Qtile, BSPWM, Openbox, and Worm community editions from the Calamares installer as there’s no one left to maintain them.

May also be relevant to some users.

The devs explain the switch from Xfce to KDE Plasma as a way to make EndeavourOS development and maintenance easier for them as they have a more native experience with the Calamares installer.

Could someone explain to me why the Calamares installer would have to do with them deciding on KDE over XFCE?

For me it’s typically something I can enjoy absent mindedly.

It could be an element of a game I can enjoy without thinking like a solid soundtrack or visuals but not feeling like “losing” is a lose is another thing.

I like being able to shut my brain off and that typically means a lack of story but still having some form of progression.

I don’t think technical innovations relating to realism and multiplayer are essential. One of my favorite games is Hotline Miami which features pixel graphics and while shooters like Call of Duty do have a satisfying gameplay loop I feel like I hit a wall with progression eventually.

Multiplayer and VR games can also require some extra setup which is a hurdle for a game being addictive to me.

For media 1337x is great. For video games though there was the the controversy of the admins allowing a Bitcoin miner in a BG3 torrent 3 months ago.

Mostly irrelevant to what you were saying but still good to know for new comers who don’t know different sources can be good for different things.

What about something like the Thinkpad X201? It’s not ultralight but it is quite small.

Other than that I’d probably say a Chromebook with a Linux install. Second hand they are quite cheap and can likely do what you are after. A lot of them have passive cooling which is nice for a couch device. I was able to install libreboot on my C201P quite easily and now it just runs a traditional Linux install

CorrodedCranium,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

Yeah the heat would be what would make me hesistate to use it as a couch laptop but if OP wants something cheap I would say it’s an okay option

This makes me think of Pokémon and Sailor Moon. The jelly donut and calling a lesbian couple cousins respectively. I wonder what, in movies, has been edited to either make it recognizable to western viewers or to avoid controversy?

Oh yeah but I would rather have this versus condescending Redditers jerking each other off

Oh yeah I’ve seen it. Watched it and the Five Nights at Freddy’s style movie Willy’s Wonderland when I was doing a little bit of a Nicolas Cage binge.

The Thing from 1982 and Annihilation are two of my favourites. The Thing is just well shot and interesting and Annihilation has some gorgeous surreal visuals.

I’m not sure. From what I’ve read it’s pretty stable and when using other VPNs with MEGA I haven’t had issues with the transfer limit already being depleted. It could be not a lot of people actually go through the hoops to do it.

I definitely don’t see it mentioned here. There was one person who thought they were downloading torrents through it combined with a web client but that’s something else

CorrodedCranium,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

Wasn’t there a reputable VPN provider offering a free browser VPN? I feel like that could work.

Obviously it wouldn’t work for torrenting files but it should work for what you are doing.

I don’t recall who it was though. It wasn’t a shady provider. Maybe it was ProtonVPN or something?

CorrodedCranium,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

If you are looking for a DDL site you can try the Megathread. DDLbase has it. I wouldn’t torrent without a VPN. Especially if you are dealing with your employer.

CorrodedCranium,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

That’s nice of them to walk it back. Definitely not something you’d see Reddit do
