Honestly - How much will you sacrifice for a better world?

Confronted with the likelihood that we cannot achieve climate goals, confront socioeconomic inequality, and ultimately build a better world without significant personal sacrifice: How much are you personally capable and willing to lose? I mean this in the most earnest way possible. Acknowledging the likely possibility of working...

Cowbee,

As much as I can without harming those who depend on me.

Cowbee,

My problem is the opposite, normal teeth, small mouth! Haven’t ever been able to have braces until now, so I’m knocking it all out now. Hope everything goes well for you!

Cowbee,

Oof, unironically suggesting Sowell? Might as well toss in Prager-U, or DailyWire.

Cowbee, (edited )

Fair enough, but again, you somehow had even less nuance and pulled the classic bit of feigning superiority.

Edit: oof, you unironically suggest Sowell in another comment as a good resource. Looks like I’m correct, the superiority was indeed completely unfounded.

Cowbee,

If everyone has equal ownership, there is no "mono"poly.

Private ownership requires a monopoly on violence to exist, if you can’t defend it there are no rights.

Cowbee,

Nah, might makes right for them, lol

Cowbee,

Why does the market reward anti-consumer companies like Apppe, that use their dominant market share to intentionally sabotage their own products to make people buy more?

For example, why does Apple fight against Right to Repair? Is it for the consumer, or is it for profit?

The market isn’t supposed to select for the best products for consumers, but the most profit, period. That’s why medicine is marked up skyward, because customers cannot not buy medicine.

Cowbee,

Abolishing money is a very gradual process, not an immediate one. In lower stages, Labor Vouchers would be paid, and these represent an hour of labor. The difference is that labor Vouchers are destroyed upon first use.

Secondly, difficult, unpleasant, or otherwise undesirable labor would either be paid at a higher ratio, or require less labor per week to make the same amount of labor Vouchers. Alternatively, these dirty jobs may require rotation, so nobody is stuck working them. There are many ways of handling this, with more proposals than you would expect.

Cowbee,

Development did, not Capitalism. The countries that developed the most in the 1900s were the ones rejecting Capitalism in favor of some form of Socialism.

Do you think that people get richer when a group of people decide they have no rights of ownership and one person owns everything, or do you acknowledge that democracy and decentralization are good?

Cowbee,

That’s not the theory, though. The initial claim was that it’s unpleasant to think about. Regardless of your claim that it “invariably leads to shit,” that doesn’t answer the initial question.

If the claim should truly have been that existing attempts at Communism are unpleasant to think about, rather than “Communism itself is unpleasant to think about,” then it’s just an issue with wording.

Cowbee,

Capitalism.

Cowbee,

Yep, that’s the biggest downside. I look here first, and if nothing, go elsewhere. What it does have is excellent though.

Cowbee,

Big dicks hurt women, most seem to prefer average sizes. Plus, penetration is often less effective at bringing women to orgasm than oral or fingering, which nearly anyone can learn to do well.

No reason not having a big dick should stop anyone from having a good time.

Cowbee,

This meme is fake! Espresso only takes 15 minutes from start to end! At least, if you cut out preheating the machine…

cries

Cowbee,

What, exactly, could be done to make it appeal to non-leftists, structurally? Addition of advertisers? Lol.

Cowbee,

Save 15-25% of your income for retirement and future expenses, then spend the rest on whatever you want.

Cowbee,

Sure, he did one thing that likely did impact gas prices. That does not in any way mean that Trump’s fucking terrible economic policy isn’t a thing. It’s anti-science to deny climate change, which the WE does.

I never made the point that it didn’t affect gas prices, you failed to deny Trump’s impact on gas prices. This is how logic works, though I know it’s difficult for you.

Cowbee, (edited )

I did not argue that point. I claimed that Trump’s dogshit economic policy was a major factor in today’s inflation, but I understand that reading and logic don’t come naturally to you. Trump made decisions that directly harmed the economy in the long run purely to make himself look better.

We cannot argue about environmental impact, it’s a fact. The fact that you even suggest that it’s arguable proves your own lack of intelligence, the same as you pretending I claimed Biden had no impact.

Cowbee,

It’s not about comfort, voting harder won’t meaningfully improve anything, just prevent it from getting worse.

I’m aware of the ratchet effect.

Do you want me to list out every meaningful thing you can do to improve your life and the lives of others? Advocate, unionize, organize, volunteer, start a community garden, work at a soup kitchen, educate yourself and others, help someone in need, etc. It isn’t that complicated, really, and your denial of actually doing shit to help and instead whine about how Biden is a Neoliberal ghoul (which I agree with) and therefore can’t beat a fascist (I disagree with this) is absurd.

Cowbee,

Okay, so it sounds like you’re a leftist, and likely to agree that the bourgeoisie deliberately pits the Proletariat against itself as a means to prevent unified action.

Cowbee,

I mean absolutely no offense by this, but that’s a load of Utopian bullshit.

People use “-isms” not to divide into tribalism, but to describe methods and structures. If you can identify problems with modern, Capitalist society, calling it “Capitalism” is not meant to divide anyone. Similarly, the various leftist strategies, such as Marxism-Leninism, Anarcho-Communism, Council Communism, Market Socialism, Anarcho-Syndiclaism, and so forth, are all different proposed ways of tackling the same problems.

How do you propose people move towards a solution if nobody knows what the fuck everyone else is doing?

Cowbee,

I want to decommidify housing, as there’s no need for that. You want people on the streets, and are making up lies to justify your hatred for poor people.

Simple as.

Cowbee, (edited )

Only few dems actually support universal Healthcare, unfortunately, and the majority don’t care about anything but lining their pockets. It’s the same with the GOP, of course.

That being said, of course vote for dems if your only other option is reps. What’s bad is better than what’s terrible. However, don’t simply vote and be done with it.

Educate yourself. Improve your life. Exercise, organize, teach. Grassroots praxis is where you can meaningfully improve the lives of your community, and carry that momentum elsewhere. The two party system isn’t going to be corrected purely via electoralism, it’s a stop-gap to prevent sliding into fascism.
