Creat,

Weird, it isn't for me. Labeled as expected the app.

Creat,

I have completely forgotten about this comic, and I don’t know why. I remember reading all of it like 15 (ish?) years ago or so. I can’t even remember how I found it or when exactly it was, but it was part of my feed back when “Google Reader” was still a thing. I do remember Obby had entered your life though, when I stopped reading. But I don’t think I consciously stopped, I had just forgotten to continue to read?

In any case, thanks for the reminder Jennie, I’ll go catch up now. So I’ll be a little while.

Small fan switch sanity check. (lemmy.world)

Circuit is for controlling the fan on a Raspberry Pi, just on/off according to temp, no PWM. Not sure about the diode as it has a .7V drop and it’s a tiny brushless DC motor. No markings on the fan so I measured the current with a multimeter when hooking it up to a USB charger. Circuit was adapted from here using what I have...

Creat,

The point of the diode is to prevent reverse current that gets induced when a (brushed) motor is turned off. It essentially turns into a small generator while spinning down, and the diode essentially short circuits that. It prevents damage to the rest of the circuit. If that motor is brushless (with an integrated control board), you likely won’t need it but it doesn’t do any harm either.

Creat,

How is he gonna reach his mouth with the spoon and that arm length? So unrealistic smh

Creat,

it’s barely December. Who even thinks of wrapping presents now?

Creat,

The point is to avoid left turns when merging onto or leaving from the smaller road above. Keeps the traffic on it flowing.

Creat,

They have some shady (or at least questionable) enough actions in their past, some even covered by mainstream media, that made me dismiss them as an option. I went with the German hosted mailbox.org instead. Swiss law (where proton is hosted) is actually quite a bit less protective of privacy than EU/German law, or maybe just protected in other ways. The international reputation of privacy protecting character of Swiss law seems to be outdated?

Just to be clear, I can’t remember exactly what the specific events were that caused me to reconsider back when I switched years ago. When I just did some quick (!) searches just now, I found statements that they would only record ip addresses in “extreme criminal cases”, but examples include cases of trespassing and property damage. Not exactly child molesters and serial killers (example source). I also understand that the (Swiss) laws relevant to them probably forced them to, but at the very least that seems dishonest or misleading advertising.
