2024 is the Year of Linux on the Desktop, at least for my boyfriend. He’s running Windows 7 right now, so I’ll be switching him to Ubuntu in a few days. Ubuntu was chosen because Proton is officially supported in Ubuntu.
But that’s not really true. You get temporary stability, and then have to do a massive update which is guaranteed to break shit. Do you have a staging server for your desktop? If not, you’re not actually getting any benefit from waiting to update.
All of those are still ancient systems. Arch or opensuse tumbleweed are the only systems that are reasonable for a desktop because they’re rolling releases
False. KDE will feel much more familiar. And using a system with a modern kde version is way better than the ancient versions Ubuntu and all of its cousins use
Once you consider that “yeet” is the opposite of “yoink”, it really seems like it’s actually a millennial word. Though interestingly, my spell check considers “yeet” correct but not “yoink”
Americans took Imperial and changed the measurements but kept the names,
Not accurate. Imperial and US customary were designed side by side. They share a common history en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_units but US did not come from imperial
That’s totally not fair. Some things are more wrong than others. And the “everything is correct even” language people are just as insufferable as the “there is exactly one correct usage” people.
Using it’s instead of its is not slang, or an evolving use or alternative spelling. It’s simply wrong.
What tinkering do you think a framework laptop requires? Even the diy option is basically just install RAM, put case together. It’s an hour of work max if you’re being REALLY meticulous
I guess I was wrong. But I just can’t stand gnome. Their devs are insufferable and it’s so incredibly unconfigurable. I have to use it at work (at least I can use linux) and it’s just so frustrating. I can’t stand people voluntarily using gnome
What's some amazing technology they have in Japan that's very normal to them but would blow our minds here in the US and western world?
