It’s going to be bittersweet in a way because of Labour not being particularly great either, but yeah, they’ve had it coming for a very long time.

Same here. Linux just need rolling gameplay recording and better controller support (steering wheels for one) and for me it’d be set. I know Decky has it for the Steam Deck but I haven’t seen one for desktop that works fine on Wayland.

Used it before but not for rolling recordings. I heard it can be janky with hotkeys on Wayland, but I’ll have to give it a shot.

Got a little laugh from me, ngl lol.

Yeah, sim racing is very much left out in the Linux world, if not pretty janky. Virtual reality isn’t doing too hot here either, Valve just announced Steam Link for the Oculus headsets, and right now it’s Windows only.

I’ve tried Euro Truck Sim 2 with my G29, which was built for PlayStation but can work on PC with drivers on both Windows and Linux. On Linux, PS4 mode doesn’t work on Linux, but PS3 mode does - the main thing is you lose the speed indicators on your wheel, if you really want them speed lights you’ll have to go Windows and install G HUB.

Some say PS3 mode disables clutch support since that was the case when using it on a PS3 but IDK if this is the case on PC and specifically Linux. Cursory search points towards no.

Vivaldi-to-Firefox here with a little insight! Firefox addons can have the permission to hide tabs, and there are addons that take good advantage of this. Simple Tab Groups can essentially replicate Vivaldi Workspaces, as well as Sidebery if you want something a bit more on steroids in the form of a sidebar.

While I’ve got you here, I’ve had issues with Vivaldi not being able to block Google search results I don’t want to see. Might’ve been me not setting my blocklist up properly, but it works on Firefox with uBlock Origin and Safari with Adguard. Seems like Vivaldi doesn’t support some of the more advanced filtering that Letsblock.it uses for that - AdGuard works.

It basically means instead of relying on a bootloader (e.g. GRUB or systemd-boot) the computer boots the kernel directly. Generally there should be no change besides having to use the BIOS menu to manually select a kernel.

@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

No problem! :)

FWIW, a lot of the DIY distros (Arch and Gentoo being the ones on most minds) allow this already so it’s nothing new. It’s just Fedora implementing it that’s new I guess. If you’re curious, the term to search is “EFISTUB”.

should watch some of it again tbh, watched it as a kid and I loved Wander Over Yonder, one of McCracken’s other shows.

Welcome to the Linux community!

Seriously, though. Just use what you want (as long as it’s working and supported, of course). Don’t let anyone here pressure you.

Same for the fediverse tbh. I’ve actually seen people treat it like an exclusive nerd club, then wonder why people are staying on Twitter or choosing Bluesky instead.

The Unity Desktop Environment an Underrated Masterpiece (unityd.org)

I used it at university. I don’t think anyone there complained about it, and these people were not Linux users…

I’ve got two, from Spotify and Apple Music.

Both have Steps as my favourite artist which mostly isn’t surprising. The top song on the two differ, though - for Spotify it’s Samo mi se spava by Serbian singer Luke Black, and Apple Music it’s Twisted by Australian prog metal band Voyager. Both artists entered Eurovision 2023, though Twisted wasn’t the entry.

Awaiting ListenBrainz’s which’ll be released in the new year, as that will have some of the most accurate data, as it includes things from my local library

Flaky,
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

man I used to listen to them and Krewella a lot when I was 16-18 lol. I’ve still got a soft spot for that era of EDM.

Flaky,
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

The odd thing is that some of them are uninstallable on iOS/iPadOS…

meanwhile, me on Arch: yay -S microsoft-edge-stable-bin

Is there a Spotify alternative that has no ads?

I pay for Spotify for 7 years or so now and i'm so sick of all the ads. After every update there seems to be an: oops, sorry, you have ads now. Podcasts are filled with ads. I was just listening to a podcast where they shoved in 3 ads mid-sentence. How long until musicians put ads in their songs. I'm just so sick of it.

Used both (currently on AM but used Deezer thanks to a free trial).

They both have their exclusives and they might do something in relation to, say, a new album launch, but I’ve not had any blatant advertising on either of them. Apple’s Podcast app on iOS is free, if they have an iPhone.

I finally switched back to Linux as my daily driver after a couple of years of being on nothing but Windows.

I ran Manjaro Linux as my daily driver a few years ago but slowly phased it out for Windows for some reason, and I’m finally back using Linux (currently Linux Mint). I gotta say, I don’t know why I ever switched back to Windows. There’s just so much freedom Linux gives you right off the bat that Windows is just plain...

I’ve been playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Linux just fine as well, and Forza Horizon 4 (though the Xbox account setup was a rigmarole). Only thing I had to do was use bluetoothctl to set up my Xbox Series X/S controller, as it uses Bluetooth to connect and it doesn’t work with KDE’s Bluetooth setting GUI.

Flaky,
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

My workflow is too married to MusicBee to do that lol, it’s the reason I keep a Windows VM handy nowadays (okay, and Apple Music if I need to do some playlist things)

Flaky,
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

very brave of you to say that here

Pop!_OS is based on Ubuntu and also strips Snaps for Flatpaks AFAIK

Flaky,
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Don’t buy a Steam Deck then.

iirc sudo has a bunch of quotes to spit out when an incorrect password is typed. Gentoo exposes that feature with the offensive USE flag.
