Fungah, to linuxmemes in Linux users when

When I needed to use chrome (ugh) to run a program I just compiled I googled chromium… which didn’t work… so I tried troubleshooting it. But I don’t understand c. Or why it didn’t work I can’t remember what happened next but it took hours.

I have ungooohlef. Chromium now though which is great.

Fungah, to selfhosted in Do any of you have that one service that just breaks constantly? I'd love to love Nextcloud, but it sure makes that difficult at times

I’m with you.

Local everything I possibly can.

Fungah, to asklemmy in How to respond to gf saying "I'm fat"

My gf has been asking me repeatedly if I think she’s a cow.

I said no for about a month or so when I remembered what I’d told her not lokgn after we started dating: I’m just going to agree with anything negative you say about yourself until you stop saying it.

Responding with things like: yes, yes I do… or: MOOOOOOO. Or: yeah, a dn sexy cow, lemme see them milkers, seems to have put a stop to it quick. Or any of the self deprecating tracks she tends to get on.

It seems to be the only thing that gets her off these weird self de}reacting spirals for some reason

She kept on asking if she looked like a Teletubby for a while so I kept saying . “Tubby custard” at weird times and it stopped.

If this sounds mean, I’m very supportive and often compliment her )looks / accomplishments and she usually laughs when it happens. It’s not done with malice and we both laugh at it.

Fungah, (edited ) to linuxmemes in Linux too mainstream for some 🤷

The one beside Debian is almalinux I think.

The one beside Kali is parrot

Fungah, to memes in Google “search”

Excepting yep and Yandex virtually everything else is just a front end for Google / bing afsikm unless I’m incorrect about that?

Fungah, to privacy in Are Phones and Smart Speakers Listening to You? Cox Media Group Claims They Can | Cord Cutters News

My own theory is that they tokenize key words and phrases with an AI so that they’re not sending the actual audio data. Then it’s stored in a form some AI can parse but isn’t technically user data so they can skirt legislation around that.

A tokenized collection of key phrases omitting delimiters in text format is going be much, much less than audio, or a transcript.

Fungah, to lemmyshitpost in Learning the Python

It actually looks like he could eat her. Snakes expand. A lot.

Fungah, to memes in Google “search”

I liked kagi for the first couple months I had it but then I noticed the results seems to be getting worse. Google tier. I cancelled because why pay for that?

I’m not sure if the results were better at first or whether I just noticed flaws more the longer I used it.

I’m often not even bothering to search for technical issues now. There’s been a big mindset shift in me. If I can’t figure it out on my own then pack it up and move on to the next thing. It’s a 5050 shot at best whether you’ll get help on a forum and search is a dumpster fire everywhere. I’m learning a lot more this way and retaining but fuck me running is it ever frustrating

Fungah, to memes in Google “search”

It’s still just Google and ddg and whatnot though.,?

Like. There’s only a few search engines. Bing. Google. Yandex. Yep.

I haven’t found aggregating them with search to be even remotely useful because more garbage is still garbage

Fungah, to linuxmemes in A repost from r/linuxmemes - Because I saw the original comic

Don’t you just love how with phones you don’t really have one?

Google is breaking their backs locking down Android tighter than a nun’s cooch, and generally enshitifyijg every garbage product they offer. Where’s my third fucking option?

Fungah, to linuxmemes in Linux mint = best beginner distro

It’s the most stable distro I’ve used so far. Manjaro just seems like it’s a ticking time bomb just waiting for borked o’clock to come. I couldn’t get Nvidia drivers working on fedorat all. Ubuntu was just slow as ass. I don’t know why. But it was just fucked from junk street. I’ve given it a go a few times. Just slow wet ass. Kali is snappy and clean but not meant to be a daily driver. Not would I use it as one.

Mint works. It’s relatively snappy. I like the gui. It’s customizabe.

Fungah, to linuxmemes in Oh no ...

I’ve tried Manjaro kde and mint kde and it’s been a dumpster fire both times. Then again gnome was also a dumpster fire on Manjaro. It honk I’m seeing the common thread there.

I want to love kde… why won’t it let me?Fuck gnome though.

Fungah, to linuxmemes in Oh no ...

Duck duck go is just bing and Google.

I pay $10/month for kagi. It’s really not where I want it to be but it’s the best game in town so far.

Fungah, to linuxmemes in Oh no ...

The fact that Google and bing are aggressively fucking search to death doesn’t help much.

Fungah, to linuxmemes in Oh no ...

My first 4 months or so with Linux sucked. I literally broke a keyboard once out of frustration. I often find myself wanting to scream “can you just fucking work for once?” More often than I’d care to admit.

I’ve been at it for about a year and a half and I’ve learned more about computing in that time than in the 30-odd years before. I’m starting to get the hang of bash, I’ve figured out the cause of, and fixed, problems without reading anything online (Google is fucking broken and it’s not getting better so it’s often not an option anymore anyway).

It can be hard. And frustrating. But it’s freeing to realize just how fucking stupid Microsoft made me. And the privacy issues always bothered me (in the process of degoogling ATM) but they bother me more now than they ever did. It’s fucking gross. And it’s appalling that companies collect what they do.

Point being your criticisms are all valid but if windows is a Honda Civic then Linux is a rusted out Porsche in the backyard. It’s going to take some effort to get it where you want it but when you do baby it’ll purr.
