What are the best steps to reduce the wealth of billionaires?

There are a myriad of news articles here on Lemmy that display the abhorrent influence billionaires have on our society (especially the US, where I reside). I consistently read comments where the posters appear hopeless and despondent of the situation, while others jokingly refer to the guillotine....

GiddyGap,

Taxation (also unlikely)

I think this is the most feasible way, and it work relatively well in other Western countries than the US. They still have billionaires, but fewer due to higher taxation. If put in place through referendum, it also creates a basis for societal approval of stripping very wealthy people of their excess wealth, lowing the risk of widespread revolt.

GiddyGap,

Also, millions of people living in Texas are not originally from Texas and have no particular allegiance to Texas.

GiddyGap,

A spokeswoman for Intuit, Tania Mercado, criticized the direct file project as a “half-baked solution” and a waste of taxpayer money.

Yeah, screw you. You shouldn’t have to pay to file your taxes. End of story.

GiddyGap,

True. I’m just glad I’m not part of that experiment. It’s bad enough to live with the threat of a second Trump presidency.

how similar are other North American countries to USA??

I mean the other 2 countries, Canada and Mexico, how similar are both of them to United States?? Both countries have a similar economy and democracy etc, and I think those two countries share things like supermarkets, stores, etc. I suppose the cultural differences are not a lot, that is very nice.

GiddyGap,

If we get technical, so do Russia

Don’t think that’s being technical. The US and Russia are literally neighbors.

GiddyGap,

I know credit cards can be a slippery slope for some, so learn how to practice financial discipline before getting one.

That said, if you’re not paying with a credit card, you’re paying at least 2 percent too much for everything you buy except the things that can’t easily be paid for with a credit card.

That adds up big over the years.

GiddyGap,

Yeah, don’t spend more. Use it as a debit card.

And, again, make sure to be financially responsible and literate before you get a credit card.

GiddyGap,

I know credit cards can be a slippery slope for some, so learn how to practice financial discipline before getting one.

GiddyGap,

Yet another reason to vote for Biden.

GiddyGap,

Not exactly a rave review of the American educational system.

No wonder European countries don’t accept US high school diplomas as sufficient for acceptance into a college or university.

GiddyGap, (edited )

I agree.

I asked this question because I really want to try to understand people who are different than me and hold other opinions than me. Broaden my horizon. Maybe help people question their own reasonings.

So, I asked a question on a topic I don’t understand. I hope people will answer honestly and that people who disagree will avoid persecuting that honesty.

We all need to find common ground somewhere.

GiddyGap,

I tried to word it as non-biased as possible. How would you word it to make it less biased in your opinion?

GiddyGap,

Thanks for your response. Much appreciated.

Still, the things you say they don’t want to engage in a conversation about or even acknowledge are actual policies the party engages heavily in. And that’s really my question. How do they reconcile their non-religious convictions with those religious policies of the party.

Do you mean they just don’t care and vote for the party regardless because there’s one policy they like?

GiddyGap,

Thank you for your response.

GiddyGap,

We’ll see about that.

GiddyGap,

So, you complain about Trump and then you proceed to elect your own Trump. What’s up with that, Netherlands?

GiddyGap,

As an American, they are not wrong, though.

GiddyGap,

Sure, but OP is pretty much spot on. The development in American politics since Trump stepped on the scene has been very disturbing to most outsiders. Trump is probably more of a result of long-running GOP policies, but nevertheless a disturbing feature of a party that aims to prove that government is dysfunctional by creating dysfunction. I can understand how that looks insane from the outside. It sure feels insane from the inside.

GiddyGap,

And Better Call Saul is equally great. Two best shows I’ve seen. Consistently high quality from start to end for both. That’s a hard thing to do.

GiddyGap,

It’s really just a video of Netanyahu saying the words himself. It’s not interpreted or analysed by the website. Don’t see how that can be very biased.

GiddyGap,

It’s Netanyahu speaking directly in a video. Not being interpreted or analysed by the outlet.

GiddyGap,

Very surprised 42 percent of Coloradans and 25 percent of Idahoans would say they live in the Midwest.
