I do a lot of photography and I share it on my deviant art page.

It’s SFW, don’t worry.

I know I know

It’s such a far fetched idea it sits in the same camp as teleporting but we all have to have dreams, and napping on the train on the way to work sounds so pleasant

My finances took a huge hit due to that and basically had me plate spinning for awhile.

Now that I’ve only got a few thousand left to pay it’s a lot easier.

The fun thing about stereotypes is that they are just blanket statements that apply to basically none of them.

Are there some lazy and stupid poor people? Yes, but they exist all along the financial spectrum.

The discipline necessary for having credit cards with high limits makes things really tough (trust me I know)

Switching to Linux, my comment was pretty poorly worded due to staying up almost 6 hours later than I normally do

My first NAS was an old desktop that I got for $300 running an FX-6300 and a GTX 550, I slapped a couple hard drives in there, installed Ubuntu, and made an SMB share.

I’d recommend installing TrueNAS Scale on a system rather than doing what I did in part due to it being so much better than what I was doing, but you could run it on a potato if you wanted.

Hell my latest NAS upgrade is going from a PowerEdge T610 (tower server from like 2010ish) running TrueNAS Scale to a normal desktop (from 2017) running TrueNAS Scale

If anything using normal desktop hardware makes servicing it easier than using old server hardware

18 HDDs into it plus 5 SSDs

Sweating intensifies

That’s a lot of drives, I’ll have to look into that one for sure

No wonder Christmas decorations are coming out earlier and earlier, it makes it easier to put them up a little at a time

NGL I really wish we had that here

There’s some beautiful places that are cut off from people because of it being private property

The worst is when someplace becomes private property after being open to the public for a long time

I haven’t done the full length of one but I’ve gone pretty far down one before

Basically you just need to figure out who owns the land and depending on that would depend on if you can legally or not

When I did it though I didn’t check first because I was basically banking on the fact it was near a national forest so if someone stopped me I’d claim (accurately) that I didn’t know it wasn’t a part of the national forest. Of course I’m not sure if it is a part of it or not, but if I did get stopped at least I’d know for sure. I didn’t get stopped but I did have a nice day out there.

That’s the fun thing about morals, everyone is operating with a different set of morals. Often similar, but some are drastically different.

And sometimes the things that fit within their moral outlines would shock other people

Some people need the threat of terrible consequences to not do terrible things

Gormadt,

Report them first though so that there’s a chance their content might be taken down

It’ll only go away if it’s reported

Or when I lived in a place with shit internet and I had games that needed an online handshake to play, I basically pirated every game that needed that check because I wouldn’t be able to play otherwise

And they usually ran better too, funny that

TIL, I’m going to have to check this out later for sure

Sounds easy enough on paper

Unfortunately for some of us we go around and suddenly start hearing boss music for seemingly no reason (anxiety)

Gormadt,

A based take for sure

I’m planning to start supporting the instance I’m on soon due to how good of a job they’re doing

I agree whole heartedly that if you have suicidal thoughts you shouldn’t own firearms. It’s a recipe for disaster if you do. And if you have those thoughts you should seek help. There’s people in your life who will miss you dearly when you’re gone, even if you don’t think so.

And I’m sorry for your loss, I know how hard it is when someone you care about commits suicide. I’ve known 4 people who have. Though none of them used firearms to do so I’ll never forget them.

Personally I’ll never own pistols as I’ve had too many bad experiences with pistols. The why is a bit of a doozy.

Trigger warning Child Abuse, Breaking and Entering, and Attempted Murder. On a number of occasions my dad held a pistol to my head screaming at me to tell him where his drugs that he had already done were. He did this a lot to my siblings and I before he finally got clean. I still refuse to speak with him as there’s just too much pain there. My siblings tell me he’s a lot different now, that he’s back to the way he was when they were young, but I’ve only ever known him as the abusive drug addict that he was. Him and some of my other relatives are why I own firearms really as a number of them have said that they “can’t wait to get the order to hunt people like me in the streets.” And one went to prison for kicking my door in to try. That was when that relative found out I was a gun owner. They didn’t get shot, we just patiently waited for the police to arrive while they sat in my entry way.

Basically I saw it as “I already pay for Spotify, I might as well get rid of ads consistently and get music streaming for the same cost.”

I still think Google Play Music was better than YouTube Music currently is though.

Edit: Thinking back on it it was called YouTube Red when I signed up, it’s been a long time.

Straight up what made me switch to YouTube premium was a bit of a 2 pronged thing really

They started including Google Play Music with it, and then I got an unskippable 1 hour ad in front of a video that after I reloaded the page I got the same ad again.

Edit: I don’t have an issue paying for a service if the price is right. I got what I wanted for I price I’m willing to pay.

Straight up my car is 16 years old at this point and I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off

Do I want a different car with different features? Yup.

Will I buy a new car? Fuck no, I’ll buy a used car and do the same: drive it until the wheels falls off.

I have 2 siblings and our relationship for the most part was pretty good.

Until it got out that I was bi.

One of siblings is fine with it (they’re also bi).

The other took a similar stance to the rest of my relatives and has all but cut ties with me.

I say similar as most of my relatives have fully cut ties with me.

So it could be better.

My vision of an ideal world is a hard one to answer but does have a few key aspects to it.

Where getting sick or hurt doesn’t financially ruin someone.

Where people can seek mental health care without destroying their lives.

Where homelessness is a thing of the past.

Where no one goes hungry.

Where seeking to improve yourself via higher education doesn’t cost money.

Where school funding is based on needs rather than location.

Where people are judged by the value of their character rather than the color of their skin, who they love, or the money in their bank account.

My ideal world isn’t some far off fantasy, my ideal world is something that we can achieve in our lifetimes if we try.

I like a clunk or deeper click.

But when it comes to my keyboard I like a bump with a solid bottom out, not a click.

Currently though I’ve got some damn fine clunky toggle switches for some electronic projects that are super overkill for the project but they clack so good.

Install software relevant software to your hobbies

I’d recommend finding out what kind of video card it has though as that’s a big deciding factor in what you can use it for.

For some people it’s not too bad, and during the summer it’s not that bad.

During the winter though it’s hell. The days are short that you basically never see the sun.

During the whole affair though you’ll have to supplement your Vitamin D, especially during the winter.

If you’re a high schooler you could always apply for a job at a local business

Provided you’re old enough that is

I’d recommend trying to figure out why you’re failing out of school, school is pretty useful.

Or you could look into picking up a hobby to take up some time with something you could enjoy. Drawing, 3d modeling, writing, reading, cycling, tabletop gaming, photography, etc.

Does anyone else hope the bulk of Reddit stays there?

I think my favorite thing about Lemmy is that it feels like Reddit used to. Less negativity, more engaged users (I think). I know it will be fun to watch Reddit die, but if I put spite aside what I’m really mad at Reddit about is more about what Reddit became and maybe part of that is when the general internet user started...

@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I helped a lot of people with niche hardware and software troubleshoot things for years on Reddit, I'm planning to leave my comments up because of that.

The amount of times I would search for something to only find threads of people asking about an issue followed by comments that say "deleted by [X software on github] in protest for [issue that was solved years ago]" and responses praising the deleted comment for helping them is too damn high.

Or hell trawling the internet archive for dead sites trying to find solutions.

I don't want people to have to go through that.

I don't care where my answers come from, I just want to troubleshoot crap in a timely manner.
