Grass, to linuxmemes in Linus does not fuck around

In the following responses Mauro was very professional. l haven’t heard much about recently but Linus had some high tier anger issues. Most of the cases I was following back then he was right, but desperately needed to cool off.

Ouch

Have you built one? I was looking into that before but I think I held back because it couldn’t handle images or something.

I’ve taken my Kobo into a stream that people cliff jump into. I felt off about it because it doesn’t look waterproof even though it is advertised as such. Maybe I’m just too old for waterproof electronics.

I did this before but couldn’t keep it up. When I got my first OLED phone I was able to do it with inverse colour and 2 notches over minimum brightness, plus blue light toned down. I read Atwood’s maddaddam trilogy like this.

Get a Kobo. They are excellent. I had a 2020 or so Paperwhite from 'zon but it made me feel sad all the time. My Kobo Libra 2 has caused me to read more since I got it than the entire before portion of my life.

If you get any books off amazon use calibre and DeDRM. IIRC DeDRM has stopped but also has been forked on git and continued by someone else so you would want the more up to date fork. Adobe digital editions DRM or whatever it was called I believe can also be removed up to a certain version but you have to download it for the first time with an old enough Adobe app version get the old drm version or it will get permanently locked to the newer version that can’t be removed. Anyway removing DRM let’s you read the ebooks on whatever device you want. It’s not illegal in any country I have bothered to research except if you are doing it to distribute or sell.

As a side note if it helps anyone, I was able to get the whole procedure to work on Linux too by installing the required versions of kindle desktop and Adobe digital editions via Lutris and wine. Calibre and plugins are already cross platform.

Edit: updated DeDRM fork link because goog search results are utter shit these days. github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools

IKR, or pretty much any distro even some of the ‘advanced’ ones with some caveats.

I just had to do up a dual boot with windows for someone who works with people that use a windows only software that currently can’t be wine’d, and was appalled at how awful the install procedure has become since everything after 7 really. The enterprise and not pro features that are actually desirable for privacy minded people that aren’t experts in networking hardware and software was a huge let down too. Well assuming M$ isn’t just blatantly lying about config options anyway.

Grass, to linuxmemes in Accurate?

You only have to use one of seemingly several methods to make the offline account option appear based on what specific version installer you have, no to Cortana but wait for her subtitles to finish in time with her audio anyway, individually untick every data collection option which each take up the whole screen with the toggle and next button being just far apart enough for it to be annoying plus the slow fade transition, realize you actually need the enterprise edition to set telemetry to 0 using group policy editor which isn’t available otherwise, have a vaguely different installation for that, find out that some functionality isn’t available like Ms store and some other stuff on enterprise which requires PowerShell to add it in if needed. Then possibly some random app to block select domains, with exceptions for the ones that make xbox, the Ms support sites, and ms software not work when disabled if needed. and/or pihole/unbound/Adguard if you have the means of setting it up. Then have random software not work for unknown reasons but you know deep down it’s the non standard installation of windows.

I don’t really get why this exists but I caught myself thinking that the gender neutral cum was missing, because I remember my dad lost his shit over the gender neutral candy on the original. He also lost his shit over gender neutral Santa and other stuff that is simply not a thing beyond other people like him bringing it up on Facebook like anyone actually wants that.

From the thumbnail I was wondering if it was this. Thanks for saving me the watch.

Grass, to asklemmy in What companies have made your blacklist?

If it’s anything like superstore in Canada, they need too much babysitting. Even if there is a store specific person able to fix problems to prevent them from happening again, corporate will force push an update that reverts it. Lots of product entries for things not available on that side of the country will return after being removed and all they do is lock up the system because they don’t actually exist. Every little thing requires the human cashier to reset or override something. I ran 8 at a time on my own when they were new but most people couldn’t do that while ensuring nobody notices the problems and get angry. 4 is reasonable for a non-beginner. Any more requires ridiculous micromanaging.

Everyone else dribbles all over the seat and doesn’t clean it so I leave it up.

Grass, to linux in The Unity Desktop Environment an Underrated Masterpiece

As a long time Ubuntu hater, no. They did so much weird de shit that I eventually had to fuck off and I’ve been happier(in regards to computers only) ever since.

Grass, to lemmyshitpost in Underappreciated humour

I have used Jessandra/Jessessandra, Jessinald, Jesstancia, Jessentina, Jessanca, Jesstoria, Jessody, Jesselia, Jessolet, Jessilda, Jessephine, Jessevieve, Jessentine, Jesselaide, Jessalie, Jesselope, Jessatrice, Jesselia, and many more. Just because she introduced herself saying her name was easier to remember than the other two that had just introduced themselves. Admittedly I can’t remember their names.
