HiddenLayer5, (edited ) to memes in No I won't feel bad about having ad blockers

The other day I saw a video from Emkay, one of the largest “Reddit commentary/reaction” content farm channels where they just steal the top voted posts from Reddit and read them out, going as far as to censor even the lightest swear words with stupid pop culture sound effects until the post is utterly soulless to avoid demonetization, zero credit to the original creator and no linkback in the description or anything. And surprise surprise one of the narrators flat out said “YouTube blocking adblockers is great because we get more revenue!”

If that isn’t a self aware wolf moment I don’t know what is.

Germans tend to be pretty heavy build too, pretty severe impact damage. Take cover.

I don’t associate this with any particular city, but with the rich neighbourhoods in every city, particularly the recently rich neighbourhoods built from gentrification and forcing the existing poor residents out. An upscale “urban eatery” is a sure sign that the neighbourhood is destroyed.

Out of the mainstream distros what might end up getting bought by Google or even Microsoft, Ubuntu seems to me like the most likely candidate.

I mean, RedHat was once the even more likely candidate, but

Do you seriously think a community called “fuck cars” is trying to defend gasoline cars over EVs? This is a public transportation gang good sir, madam, or otherwise.

Also, Santa, who’s implied to be the guardian of the reindeer, chose not to intervene in the slightest on behalf of Rudolph. He never at any point even acknowledged the bullying and went straight to using Rudolph for his own benefit. This, despite a 0% chance he didn’t know about the bullying considering that his literal thing is knowing if you’re bad or good. Bullying isn’t considered bad?

Eh pizza from these types of restaurants already isn’t that healthy to begin with and your body can more than tank the effects of an occasional special treat like this.

Just remember to drink a lot of water.

Yeah. If university bio has taught me anything it’s that botany classifications are way more numerous, way more complex, and have way more exceptions than zoology classifications (not to undermine zoology of course, it’s also super complicated). There’s just far more diversity in how different plants accomplish the same things compared to how different animals accomplish them, which makes sense since plants are quite a bit older than animals and also have way more species.

Willy Wonka is a true American businessman. A child is about to die horribly and all he can think about is loss of product due to contamination.

Edit: Ok I looked it up since I wasn’t sure if Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is set in the US or UK. Apparently it’s inspired by factories in the UK but the actual setting in-universe is ambiguous in the original book, though both movies set it in (IIRC) London. Reading it as a kid I definitely imagined it taking place in the US though, not sure why but the story just “sounds” American, what with the copious consumption of sugar and the seemingly total lack of government oversight on businesses.

Unless you live in an extremely remote place not served by roads. The arctic for example. It’s not technically commuting as in going to and from your 9 to 5, but plenty of small northern communities are still completely dependent on small gravel runways or even bushplanes for things like going to the doctor or dentist, or really anything they need to go to a city for, which is a lot of things.

I actually thought this was a similar situation, that they’re so out in the middle of nowhere flying is significantly more convenient than driving. But then I took a look at the map and realized that they’re not far from Chicago and are within easy driving distance from nearby smaller towns, which makes this way harder to justify though still mildly interesting.

Paved roads disrupt rainwater movement as they physically block water from permeating and also have fast flowing storm drains. They have been shown to significantly reduce groundwater replenishment and increase the speed and volume of run off into rivers and streams, which exacerbates flooding risks.

@HiddenLayer5@lemmy.ml avatar

It breaks the cardinal rule of executing privileged code: Only code that absolutely needs to be privilaged should be privileged.

If they really wanted to have their logo in the boot screen, why can’t they just provide the image to the OS and request through some API that they display it? The UEFI and OS do a ton of back and fourth communication at boot so why can’t this be apart of that? (It’s not because then the OS and by extension the user can much more easily refuse to display what is essentially an ad for the hardware vendor right? They’d never put “features” in privileged code just to stop the user from doing anything about it… right?)

If we’re to insist on it being a specific country’s food, it really should be Indian no? It was invented by Indian diaspora in the UK as (IIRC) a take on traditional Indian food using ingredients that are easier to obtain in the UK.

IMO saying tikka masala is British food is like saying General Tso’s Chicken, which was invented by Chinese diaspora in the US for similar reasons, is somehow American food. I don’t think the country it was invented in can really claim credit in either case.
