People don’t realize how much data is collected, how it’s analyzed to determine things about you, and how it’s given out to nearly anyone. Here are some concerning examples that hopefully speak for themselves.
Hopefully you can see why the information being collected and given out to anyone is concerning. As to how to avoid it, I’m not sure there is any way besides government regulation. Maybe someone else has some answers!
I’m getting an error when trying to access the PC master race community on lemmy.world “couldnt_find_community”. I can’t even read my own comments on there. Strange, considering as far as I know we haven’t defederated from .world. Anybody know how I can fix this or should I message the admins?
I wondered that when I saw whitepeopletwitter and animetitties in my feed. You can name communities anything you want here! You don’t need to use subreddit names that were created in protest of other subreddits. Just name them Tweets and World News.

If you scroll through the community bans of World News@lemmy.ml, you’ll see there’s a mod going crazy handing out months long bans for having the wrong opinion on the current conflict. Mods aren’t beholden to anyone but themselves, so if that’s how they want to mod then that’s how it’s going to be. Thankfully, Lemmy has hundreds of communities discussing the conflict so you might find better mods in one of those communities.
I’m vegetarian. Western food is so focused on meat that people often have no idea how to make a meal that doesn’t contain it. My mother once asked me how to make a vegetarian version of Chicken Parmesan. So keep the tomato sauce, cheese, and spices, but swap out the chicken with pasta. Congrats you’ve made vegetarian Chicken Parmesan. I like to call it Spaghetti.

It took me way too long to realize chasing a high pay, high stress career wasn’t worth it. I envied my friends and family for being able to enjoy weekends, evenings, and holidays when I couldn’t. I missed my best friends bachelor party, I missed Christmas and New Years parties. If i didnt miss them entirely i would show up late or leave early from every occasion.
