Jumuta,

I think they would care if they knew the benefits of not having snaps.

There’s little to no advantage in having them, so why have them?

Jumuta,

it was confusing for me when apt install Firefox installed the snap version

Jumuta,

isn’t ubuntu based on debian stable and so have even older packages?

Jumuta, (edited )

windows’ ram overhead is insane though, it’s not like I can’t run it but I wouldn’t want to daily drive it

Jumuta, (edited )

why? Do you mean “like” as in you’d rather have them than not, or that you think they’re a good way to package apps?

Jumuta,

do you mean Kde neon? pretty sure kubuntu has snaps

Jumuta,

♥️ KDE default apps ♥️

Dolphin, Konsole, Okular, Skanpage are so nice and I wouldn’t be able to live without them. They feel so polished and solid, and somehow manage to have all the features I want without feeling cluttered

What distro would you recommend for a 32-bit old Acer One laptop? (kbin.social)

It's an old model (Acer One D257) Processor is Intel Atom. Memory is 1GB DDR3 with 320 GB of HDD. I currently Have MX 21 running on it, but I need to reinstall because I forgot the root password. Since I'm reinstalling the OS, I thought I'd ask here for recommendations for an OS that makes the most of this oldie.

Jumuta,

Debian based distros can be very different from each other. Ubuntu, Mint, Pop!, etc are all based off debian. I think what the commenter you’re replying to is saying is to install the stock debian image, because that’s the lightest version of debian.

I’m sorry but Musk’s rockets are probably the most environmentally friendly. There was the dust cloud in orbital flight test 1 but it’s definitely not as bad as some other launches from other organisations. Rockets fail and that’s not a problem if you fail intentionally.

Jumuta,

Yeah I see things like that a lot on Lemmy.

I especially see it a lot around things I have deep interests in that a lot of people have light knowledge on, so it’s probably the Dunning Krueger effect rearing its ugly head :(

I guess the main way to combat this is to join nicher communities, but that’s not really possible on Lemmy right now because of its small size :/

Jumuta,

Xenia would not appreciate Google holding power over the entire internet

Jumuta,

mint and arch aren’t made for the same people. Not everyone wants it on by default

Jumuta,

because arch is a minimal distro and some people see the processing power used for bt to be wasted

  • Thinkpads RE: Repairability/upgradability

I need to upgrade my laptop and one of the things I’m looking for is repairability/upgradability. I’ve been told thinkpads are good in this respect, how true is that? In terms of replacing batteries and memory, at least. I’m also looking at the frameworks, but those black friday deals are looking alright at lenovo....

    Jumuta,

make sure to get the quad core models for >t440p though

    Help, boot doesn't work anymore

I have a laptop eith sata and a nvme drive. I installed a few operating systems and I decided on Mint for Sata. Installed it copied data from Nvme drive since I was using it as primary. I installed Nobara on nvme and it worked flawless until a few moments ago. Reboted and Mint is gone from boot options. Tried to add it but...

    Jumuta,
