Kepabar,

I own the push mower version.

That was true of the first gen batteries. They lasted a year and then stopped holding a charge.

There are second gen batteries that seem to be holding up better, I’ll be going into my third year with them soon so we’ll see.

Kepabar, (edited )

I did that for my employees this year.

Pissed off I’ve client who wanted us to work on their project this week because it’s when they are least busy.

When I demanded 20k to pay out my guys to make them miss their week off they backed down.

Kepabar,

Yes, the early days when games where literally 10 bucks an hour to play.

I miss you, Cyberstrike and Airwarrior.

Kepabar,

Apparently I’ve been listening to the new Gunship album too much, said I was in the top 1% of Gunship listeners.

Kepabar,

While the tone of this post is mocking, it’s a very real thing that having the social skills to match someone else’s vibe during an interview can help tremendously with helping the interviewer see you as someone who can fit with the company culture.

I see people who struggle with getting jobs often are lacking in those sort of soft social skills.

Kepabar,

If you lack social skills you better have some sort of labor relevant skill to replace it with them!

Kepabar,

It’s things like this that prevent me from using Linux more.

I force myself to use it for projects where it’s an option because I feel I need to learn it better but I kind of dread it every time.

Inevitably I’m stuck frustrated reading conflicting guides from years ago and wondering just how badly I’m going to fuck things up this time.

Sometimes it all feels so esoteric.

Kepabar,

Generally deploying some kind of service.

Kepabar,

It’s a chicken and egg situation.

It’s frustrating because I don’t know it, and I don’t learn it because it’s frustrating.

Kepabar,

Can’t, really. Have several critical Windows only apps.

Kepabar,

I’ve gone to playing Project 1999, an OG EverQuest emulator server.

It’s only up to velious and it’s as close to how the game was back then as you can get.

I don’t recommend it to people who never played EQ back in the day - games have changed far too much for this ancient game to be fun for most people who don’t have nostalgia for that era of gaming.

But sounds like you might, so I thought I’d suggest it to you.

Kepabar,

That’s… what?

In my home there aren’t any pumps.

Water comes in, under pressure, from the city to my water outlets around the house.

Waste water goes down a drain and out into the cities sewage system completely by gravity.

Kepabar, (edited )

I don’t have a basement.

I have a crawlspace, the plumbing is all in the crawlspace.

Water doesn’t need to be pumped up from the crawlspace because the lines are under pressure from the city main.

Now, if the city water distribution system was down I wouldn’t have fresh water, but there are zero water pumps in my home.

As for sewage, the sewer lines are below all my plumbing, so gravity is enough to drain them.

Kepabar,

That’s not how it works were I live.

There are no pumps involved. Fresh water pipes are under pressure from the city water distribution system. Sewage pipes drain via gravity.

There is never a reason to ‘pump’ sewage because the city sewage lines are below any sewage lines in my house.

Kepabar,

My gas hot water heater does not have an electric start.

Kepabar,

Y’all joke, but we pretty much had this with the La Sirena in Picard.

Kepabar,

It’s called qualified immunity.

The idea is that if a police officer accidentally violates someone’s rights while trying to do their job and wasn’t aware they are not at fault.

It’s not a law but the result of a court case. Many of us want a law passed to remove it.

Disney is gouging customers with a near doubling of subscription costs. (sh.itjust.works)

Disney is raking its customers over the coals with a 75% price hike for their annual subscription (originally $80.) People wonder why piracy is on the rise.Multiple commenters are saying I’m off base about the 75% price increase. My payment less than a year ago was $79.99. Here’s the proof.

Kepabar,

Naw, lots of us stopped when Netflix streaming came in full swing.

Kepabar,

Yeah, but I didn’t care about any of that.

Kepabar,

All nations are built and maintained by violence, either directly or by threat of it.

It’s a core component of sovereignty. To be able to call your government sovereign you must have the capacity to resist both external and internal actors from being able to overthrow you.

You must also be willing and able to use violence against those under your rule who disobey your laws (i.e, arresting a murderer).

Kepabar,

Anytime you are doing any kind of military or police action within a civilian area there is always the risk of unintended civilian harm.

If police and military forces took this doctorine that any amount of risk is too much then they simply would be unable to operate.

There has to be a certain amount of acceptable civilian risk and that should be proportional to the threat you are attempting to stop.

Just to clarify, I’m not advocating that Israel is taking acceptable risks. But I am advocating that those risks will always exist with ANY police or military action and the primary debate is over where the red line of acceptable/unacceptable is.
