People keep talking about “Federalizing the National Guard” and now you’ve got other States pledging their NG to Texas in defiance of the Supreme Court (see image)....
Because the CBP barely tried to access it? I feel like the CBP was just told to wait them out, like a child. Let Texas have a temper tantrum and wait.
They probably had to wait for the fence cutting equipment anyway. This isn’t the DMZ border with North Korea. If there was a pressing reason to do it, it would have already happened.
Like I’ve said before, if Biden really wants to access it he could just sign the federalization order at 8 AM EST. All the Guard troops would wake up to a direct order to sit their asses down or lose their pensions. By 10 AM Texas time, the fence would be on the ground or the Guard CO would be unlocking the gate.
But that’s what Abbott wants to happen so he can escape this dumb situation he created. Biden is trapping him by not taking the bait. Now Texas looks dumb paying money to lose in court. Abbott wants Biden to do something so he can shout “Federal overreach!” and get donations.
All luxury items are a “cashgrab”. You don’t have to buy any of them. If you wouldn’t buy one at all, why are you commenting? I don’t wear a watch, but I also don’t go on threads about watches and say “I wouldn’t buy a watch at all”.
Forget about money, I think you need to invest your time better.
This is an item that might be used every day for the rest of your life (even beyond your life). You wouldn’t spring for a slightly better one? Moissanite exists, as do lab diamonds if you want to go cheaper and look the same.
Definitely pay more than $500 for something that may outlast you. If you or your spouse doesn’t like the ring because it’s cheap, that’s a worse deal that spending thousands on something that you actually use.
Imagine a ring that costs $10K that is worn every day for 10 years. It looks amazing. $2.74 per time worn. Now imagine a ring that costs $500 that’s only worn once a month for sentimental value. Over 10 years that’s $4.17 per time worn. It’s more expensive because you don’t like wearing it.
For me, there were several dollar store trinkets that already broke, and one toy for my kids that was a huge sparkly styrofoam mess waiting to happen, so I threw it out rather than curse anyone else with it.
People in the depression definitely worked harder than people do now. Jobs were like “selling tomatoes from a cart” and “guy who sands the paint off old boxes to sell them as new ones”.
The 60s and 70s were a time of unprecedented increase in standard of living for many people in the US. You could see the Rolling Stones live for like $5, and pay for a car (in full) with a part time job. We are not going to see that again, so don’t compare life now to that.
Do you think an insurance company would charge you the same as a celebrity? You sit around the house where a Cheeto in the windpipe is the most dangerous thing you encounter.
Plus the others are essentially crutches. Febreeze underwear? Just take a shower. “Charm” glasses? A shower and a new haircut will get you halfway there. Maybe a watch and new shoes too.
Sleep mask is tempting but you need to hold onto it and use it for the benefit. With the penny you only need to use it once or twice to change your life. No one will ever know because you just “got lucky”. You can live a normal life too.
The penny is so OP and I don’t think people understand how. You could essentially control almost any event in the world just by betting on it. If you win the coin toss, just bet on an election or the World Cup or whatever. All of a sudden, Tupac is still alive and just won both. Plus, you won the trifecta and turned $1 into $1 million.
Be the president? Too stressful! Run the whole world from the shadows. Literally no one will ever think you control anything, even if you tell them. It will look like pure coincidence.
Kate Mulgrew played “Mrs. Colombo” in a spinoff the Colombo team didn’t like. She was way too young and has an 8 year old child. She would have been pregnant at 15-16. It was nuts and was cancelled.

I have directly been told lots of nutty things. Just yesterday someone told me that my nickname in a video game was affecting my lag. That doesn’t make any sense.
Why does this bother you unless you actually have an issue with women? The fact that you’re complaining about it indicates that it is meaningful to you.
I have come across a lot’s of people like these. like 99% of them. Sometimes it makes me think twice if what i am saying is wrong? What’s wrong with them. Is it so hard to swallow your pride and acknowledge that the other person is speaking facts? When they come to know they are wrong they proceed to insult/make fun of...
There were many people who supported Mao in the 60s and 70s, mainly because the terrors of the Cultural Revolution and the failure of the Great Leap Forward were not really known in the West.
China was a closed society. Academics didn’t even travel there. That’s what they mean when they say Nixon “opened up” China in 1972. Prior to that, people only knew what the Chinese government told them about the country.
That’s wrong in the context of the Chinese civil war though. Mao and the CPC didn’t win because they had more guns or a more powerful army. In fact, the KMT almost wiped them out several times.
According to their own lore, they were more inspirational to the local people, who supported them in return. Mao specifically said “The guerrilla must move amongst the people as a fish swims in the sea.”
The person you responded to doesn’t understand statistics. As long as your sample is random and unbiased, you don’t need to sample the whole population.
Think of someone cooking. They just taste a little bit of the food to adjust the spices. If they mixed it up evenly, they don’t need to eat the whole thing to get an idea of how it tastes. That is the basis of random sampling.
