Khrux,

They used :-) instead of 😁 is what the actual post shows.

Khrux,

I played the story on PS3 back in 2013 then picked up the PAC version and only played online that time around. I did put about 200 hours in to it which is a lot for me, j probably have 4 or so games with that many hours or more.

If you’re looking for story it never got good, particularly because your protagonist is a silent insert with no supporting NPCs to carry it, but if you’re favourite part of story mode was the general exploration and open world stuff, it’s pretty good. I sometimes played with friends but I think 90% of the time I put in was mindless time wasting which it was good at, although I was a teenager and I’m not looking to waste time like that anymore. I also got into modding it in about 2017 and had a really good time with infinite money and cheating benevolently which probably got me an extra 100 hours of enjoyment out of it.

I think it had a golden age which you’ve missed. The first 6 weeks it was out, it was totally broken and then for maybe the first year and a half it was really low on content compared to story mode. Eventually the first wave of heists and tools and resources to support race / minigame makers came out too and that was a great era. Eventually though as players left more and more over time it was becoming more and more targeted at those few “whales” who were probably spending thousands on the game, with all content becoming inflated in cost to sell shark cards. By the time I dropped the game, it was practically impossible to progress without buying the digital currency, and any money exploits or cheater’s were gone, leaving only the destructive cheaters. I have no idea if this has got better I haven’t touched the game since maybe 2019.

Khrux,

The final one is about a YouTube animator JoCat who was as far as I understand pretty beloved and charming.

I may not be up to date on events but while streaming he improved a gebderbent version of boys by Lizzo and people liked it so he made a full animation for it.

A small but loud number of people, primarily from outside his community considered the swapping of the genders and/or the platforming of Lizzo to be misogynistic and gave him enough hate that he permanently stepped away from content creation.

I have no idea if anything else has happened since but to my knowledge that’s the event that made him “cancelled”. Imo it’s different to being cancelled because most people are on his side and are supporting him, and everything I’ve seen about this news takes that stance. Him suffering abuse from a few niche corners of the internet and quitting the platforms is not the same as the internet’s collective consciousness turning against him. Metaphorically, he which his workplace due to bullying by people who foybd something he did obscene, he didn’t get fired for it.

Khrux,

I think the punchline is showing how obviously connected the two things are, not what the final one is.

Khrux,

I’ve seen an explanation somewhere that I likes which is super speed and super reflexes are like tensing two different muscles.

You can make your body move at 10x speed to run across town (even 2-3 speed makes you faster than the fastest humans and 5* is like a car going quickly), then you use your reflexes 3 times faster to make that superspeed feel like only 3 times your natural speed. You can also seperate them in other ways like buying yourself time in an exam by speeding up your thinking without actually increasing your muscle movement.

Your mental and physical speed being like tensing muscles also means you can have them kick in like a withdrawal reflex. As the air pressure changes before an explosion or bullet hits you, you involuntarily crank your limit to 50x speed (or whatever is required) to dodge.

It also has the obvious weakness of being exhaustable. It’s worth mentioning that 10x speed is absolutely enough to do most superhuman abilities, and 3x speed makes you basically better than most humans, not just at running but also dodging and punching, and it’s absolutely up to the storyteller to decide if such a low speed multiplier exhausts said speedster or if they can maintain that indefinitely like the muscles we use to stand.

Khrux,

As a counterpoint, combining Cyclops’s power with x-ray vision is a fun power combination, and it’s an interesting take to imagine his power as just cooking everything with radiation.

Khrux, (edited )

A lot of people have read this question to mean the accurate scientific implications of everyday superpowers which isn’t really in the spirit of superpowers. I’ll try to say powers that feel generally altruistic or built for cute characters that have cruel implications.

Healing us the classic cute superpower, but if the user of the power chooses to overheal somebody they could probably cause basically mega cancer.

It’s pretty easy to imagine the the implications of controlling animals, and it’s a pretty good power to sit in the background as a utility power until the user decides to have every insect, rat and pigeon in the city bombard somebody.

The ability to share memories is hard to be used villainously but two fucked applications would be to beam somebody’s traumatic experience I to somebody else’s head (or an experience that happened to one person that could trigger someone else’s PTSD), or if the user has trained themselves to be able to alter their memories to fictional events on demand, turning what is basically a truth finding superpower into an abuse of perceived honesty.

Finally the superpower of using Reddit and Lemmy your whole life and generating a very standard way if responding but having the cruel and unusual twist of always sounding like fucking ChatGPT.

Khrux,

Weird question but as someone who has never owned a reptile, do they feel love and kinship like mammals do? I always picture their reptile brains as very logical and without any emotion except maybe fear sometimes, but I could be totally wrong on that.

Khrux,

To be fair the only reason I took any vitamins is in case I’m deficient in something specific with my modern and ahitty diet. Currently I’m not taking any but I’m just as likely deficient as anyone else.

Khrux,

I feel this. I watch about 8 Foodtubers on and off and babish now feels very generic because basically everyone is a take on him.

Two things in his favour are his decision to use being the largest to platform others was really good and although that diluted his channel by making fans of the person stop watching every video, and also the fact that if I’m actually looking for a specific cooking guide and I see a babish video, I know I can follow it reliably and have a tasty end product.

Khrux,

Fun fact, sperm whales can generate a sonar click at 230dB. Decibels are a logarithmic scale so increasing by only a few dB is basically double the volume.

A sperm whale may swim past you, think you’re interesting and give a little click to scan you, and basically stun or kill you instantly.

Khrux,

It’s becoming a lot bigger in the UK and it sucks, it’s just built into receipts everywhere which makes it really awkward to decline. It’s ulalso creeping up from the standard 10%.

Khrux,

It’s not consistent, McDonalds wouldn’t have a tip but tipping in an independent fast food place isn’t uncommon big cities.

Khrux,

Although to counter I’ve met plenty of people in their 40s who are this. The head chef of my work is in his 30s and he’s 90% there already.

Khrux,

I’ve noticed that people still use chav for women, which is probably because roadmen is a gendered term anyway. But also the fact that’s it’s more gendered has helped with it’s reclaimation slightly. I’ve met people who proudly have a ‘chav aesthetic’, which is no worse than most of the other 2000s aesthetics.

Khrux,

It also reads like a children’s book where each panel would be a different page, and each would be seperate enough that a child could understand them.

Khrux,

I used to love doing a weird automated laboratory under my classic farm, but yeah it did suck out the fun once I could reliably do it again and again.

I used to specifically farm the ingredients for pumpkin pie, this was just after hoppers and repeaters were added which meant you could use those and pistons to make an automatic egg collector, sugare cane breaker and pumpkin breaker. I’d build the most picturesque farm with a secret trapdoor somewhere that would lead to my food automation zone. I haven’t really played properly since 2017 though, with a brief comeback in 2020.

Khrux,

I’m not sure I agree with the take for farenheit. It’s an arbitraty choice, and to me who grew up in a country that uses celsius, I find that far easier to understand and farenheit may as well be random numbers to me.

Khrux,

I was trying to be polite as to not trigger Americans which generally happens when you critique Imperial measurements. The post makes no sense to me as it assumes that Farenheit is correct for humans to communicate temperature. The post should read.

Celcius is basically asking water and most humans how hot they feel, Kelvin is basically asking atoms how hot they feel and Farenheit is basically asking me how hot it feels because I didn’t learn the others.

Khrux,

I’m UK based and ~0°c to ~30°c (32-86f) covers 90% of the year for celcius. It’s still pretty unhelpful but I don’t think that feels any harder than using Farenheit in day to day use, I agree that it’s largely all arbitrary, but that’s as good of a reason to just use that one that’s scientifically useful too.

Khrux,

I was going to say that. When dealing with weather and cooking, celcius is accurate enough to a degree, and when do anything scientific where I may need 0.1 if a degree, I’d use celcius anyway because it plays better with the rest of science and it’s almost as likely that I’d need to use decimals in Farenheit at that point too.

Khrux,

I’m pro methposting, is that allowed.

Khrux,

I really enjoyed the Eragon books as a kid but they aren’t great themselves. It’s a mediocre book series adapted to a bad film.

Khrux,

This is a conceptual alternate history map of modern day North America without colonisation. It’s still reasonably inaccurate of course but it’s not meant to accurately portray the borders of a pre-colonised North America.
