How often do you back up?

I was wondering how often does one choose to make and keep back ups. I know that “It depends on your business needs”, but that is rather vague and unsatisfying, so I was hoping to hear some heuristics from the community. Like say I had a workstation/desktop that is acting as a server at a shop (taking inventory / sales...

KpntAutismus,

didn’t have money for an external hard drive or anything like that growing up, so a lot of stuff got lost over the years. but when i upgrade my NAS’ hard drive i will buy an enclosure and scrape all of the important stuff together. like recovery codes for my 3ds collection, old photos of my late cat. that kinda stuff. then i’ll see how frequently i’m gonna update the data.

Honestly - How much will you sacrifice for a better world?

Confronted with the likelihood that we cannot achieve climate goals, confront socioeconomic inequality, and ultimately build a better world without significant personal sacrifice: How much are you personally capable and willing to lose? I mean this in the most earnest way possible. Acknowledging the likely possibility of working...

KpntAutismus,

i love corn(?)-based meat patties, but i haven’t really seen any meat replacements like the impossible burger anywhere for sale where i live. people just don’t want to never taste meat again, a replacement would work fine. probably.

KpntAutismus,

you need at least 100V DC or 50V AC to break the skin’s resistance, then there has to be at least 30 mA. which isn’t hard to do with a body resistance of a couple kΩ.

KpntAutismus, (edited )

i’ve always been a fan of yes theory.

and a similar one called anton is here.

KpntAutismus,

the simple answer is: me big stupid

i had a domain, but dyndns and all the other stuff required is too complicated for me to figure out.

I feel like the Steam Deck is the best proof of Gabe Newell's quote that "piracy is a service issue."

They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. That’s what Nintendo or Apple or most other companies do....

KpntAutismus,

that’s why i use spotify, almost all songs i want, great UI, the discovery algorithm is rad, and sharing a playlist for the communal work speaker is easy.

KpntAutismus,

if public transport is a valid alternative (cheaper, less crowded, more comfortable) i will use it. but currenly it is not. so i will drive my 1st gen yaris 1.0. besides 70€ of gas a month, there ate no other operation costs.

KpntAutismus,

yup, wear your glasses people!

but what happens if you say you have contacts in? do they have a mobile eye exam in their beamers?
