KpntAutismus,

It’s using a plugin system for various sources, basically it’s just a fancier front end for the source websites. it is not hosting its own (illegal) content.

How often do you back up?

I was wondering how often does one choose to make and keep back ups. I know that “It depends on your business needs”, but that is rather vague and unsatisfying, so I was hoping to hear some heuristics from the community. Like say I had a workstation/desktop that is acting as a server at a shop (taking inventory / sales...

KpntAutismus,

didn’t have money for an external hard drive or anything like that growing up, so a lot of stuff got lost over the years. but when i upgrade my NAS’ hard drive i will buy an enclosure and scrape all of the important stuff together. like recovery codes for my 3ds collection, old photos of my late cat. that kinda stuff. then i’ll see how frequently i’m gonna update the data.

KpntAutismus,

ryan gosling is (probably jokingly) the mascot of depressed memes because he was pretty sad in blade runner, and it’s probably similar with the oppenheimer dude, because he made some funny faces in the movie.

KpntAutismus,

Monopoly, except you live paycheck to paycheck. the game continues until everyone is either homeless, insolvent, died of old age or has comitted suicide.

my brother runs a thinkpad T380. best thing about it is that there is a swappable and a built-in battery. he bought it “refurbished” so his didn’t include the internal one for some reason. but you can open and even upgrade some components.

all for around 300€.

we think these have benn bought by companies for full price (1000+€) and are now being replaced, so the market for used thinkpads is very saturated at the moment.

currently runs windows, but i see no problems with running linux on a laptop, you aren’t gonna game on integrated graphics anyway.

i’ve used Linux Mint Cinnamon a fair bit, i really like it. i’ve heard KDE offers more desktop customization, but i have no idea what that would actually look like. Kubuntu apparently has it.

KpntAutismus,

when using closed-source software, always assume it’s phoning home any chance it gets.

just so i understand that right, do you want your keyboard to spell check words as you type? if yes, i use openboard.

KpntAutismus,

go where you feel most welcome/appreciated. for me besides the occasional tankie, that place is lemmy.

How to cope with existing right now?

It feels like no matter where I turn some septuagenarian, or older, is making life miserable for myself and others. Usually these are older white Christian conservatives, obsessed with a delusional sense of reality that no longer has a basis in fact, or perhaps never did....

KpntAutismus,

i have actually started reading books, watching actual shows/movies and playing more video games, instead of arguing with tankies online and watching shitty youtube videos.

KpntAutismus,

distract yourself, ignorance truly is bliss.

i have multiple hobbies currently. i collect HotWheels, Nerf guns and the occasional LEGO Technic set.

3D Printing has been very fun, most entry level machines are 200€ and you can use fusion360 for free. the gridfinity system will restore order to any cluttered room.

also comitting to watching shows, reading books gives me a great sense of accomplishment.

to add to that, i set up an old PC as a NAS running truenas and jellyfin as a docker app. i’m also planning to add nextcloud to it.

i’m still very depressed, but without my hobbies i wouldn’t be here right now.

KpntAutismus,

having to go to work is definetely one of the sources for my depression. and without giving too much personal info, i look forward to not having to do it in the future.

i do sometimes listen to podcasts, but haven’t tried audiobooks. i think my ebook reader can do them, i might try that sometime.

KpntAutismus,

that fucking sucks.

my dad told me of a friend who broke his neck and was paralyzed from the neck down once. he was able to recover almost fully, but only because he was a football player and had a lot of sponsors paying for his therapy. otherwise he would’ve remained paralyzed probably.

not even tax euro funded hospitals help often times.

we are all royally fucked at the moment and we can’t really do anything about it except electing the least corrupt and most empathetic people as possible.

but whatever you do, your husband needs you. even if you can’t cure whatever problem there is, i’m sure being there for him and caring as much as possible, even if it’s very exhausting, means a lot to him.

that’s an easy thing to just type out, and i have no idea how hard it actually is. but keep going. this is what we do, this is what we have always done. that’s how we survive.

don’t become a statistic, become the change you want to see.

KpntAutismus,

a back-mounted generator is still an option, although it just prolongs the inevitable.

KpntAutismus,

i think that’s the point. it’s stupid, that’s what’s fun about it.

KpntAutismus,

better concentration and more logical thinking.

i hate how i put people into boxes all the time.

plus make them lie for personal gain less.

KpntAutismus,

there’s almost a vaccine for that

KpntAutismus,

being a hermaphrodite would be pretty dope

KpntAutismus, (edited )

i don’t expect things anymore, it goes how it goes. if it doesn’t go how it’s supposed to go, i’ll see if i can fix it.

KpntAutismus,

maybe anticheat compatibility on linux? since the steam deck is a thing now, companies like epic or EA might wanna cash in. i love that most of my games run with gold, platinum, or even native qualities (theoretically, i still use windows), but most of the online games with anticheat still need to be adapted by the Devs to run on linux.

also this is definetely the year of the EU deciding uncontrolled data collection by random companies isn’t a good thing.

KpntAutismus,

while that is true, i can’t recommend it to my “normie” friends yet. apart from me still dailying Win10

KpntAutismus, (edited )

he bought the perfect VR headset company and then made it very difficult to homebrew and sideload. Mark killed VR.

KpntAutismus,

sadly, they’re s l o w . i want to upgrade to M.2s, but HDDs make SSDs look insanely expensive.

KpntAutismus,

RGB egg

KpntAutismus,

the EU is pretty self-sufficient, how would they even do that? threaten to leave NATO?

KpntAutismus,

chernobyl like 50 more times i guess. and most of the apartment pets likely starved.

KpntAutismus,

“We have no names, man. No names. We are nameless!”

-shaggy or some guy idk
