Could it be that the manjaro repos have older versions of the HIP runtimes then what blender 4.0 is built for? Just a thought. Either way I would report it to the blender devs so they can fix it if it’s a bug

Don’t you mean coreboot, as the point of Libreboot is that it’s a coreboot distro that’s as open and libre as possible

It looks like a cool distro if you want/need a highly configurable package manager that makes your system easily reproducible.

But if you’re just looking to learn more about Linux and learn more about how your system is set up then your average distro you might just want to go with Arch, Void, or Gentoo.

Matrix client

  • iamb a CLI matrix client with a vim like interface

Bookmark manager

  • BMKS works with or without dmenu and or fzf

Password manager

  • Pass the standard Unix password manager

File managers

  • lf like ranger but faster and written in go.
  • vifm another terminal file manager with vim style key bindings

I don’t know if Lemmy can do it yet, but I remember Reddit and also Facebook( I think) lets you set a minimum account age to post in a community. So we might want to get our mods to do that.

I wouldn’t call mint old. It has

  • Massive repos and tons of 3rd party ones
  • A reasonably modern desktop environment( if you don’t like it get a theme pack, or are you to lazy to install a theme.)
  • Stability which most new users will value a lot, as I’m sure they don’t want to learn exactly how Linux works on day 1.
  • Everything just works out the box on reasonably well supported hardware( aka the manufacturer gives a dam about Linux users or it’s a thinkpad)

So I don’t see how mint is a boomer OS because unless you’re a dev or an enthusiast it has everything you need

Wouldn’t you want to just want to type q! As you’ve probably opened it and accidentally made changes you didn’t want to. So you wouldn’t want to save the config file. Or the text file you just created.

If you want something that’s under £100 and don’t mind Bluetooth check out the soundcore life Q30s.

Honesty the first time I tried them I though they cost double what they actually do, and they’ve been my daily driver since.

For some reference I also have some audio technica ATH-M50Xs, but I find these more musical and they have ANC so I daily drive these and use my M50Xs for critical listening when needed( I’ve added that just so you know that I know what decent audio sounds like and don’t think that cheap beats knockoffs are good).

Just moved to Linux: a follow up

I recently made a post discussing my move to Linux on Fedora, and it’s been going great. But today I think I have now become truly part of this community. I ran a command that borked my bootloader and had to do a fresh install. Learned my lesson with modifying the bootloader without first doing thorough investigation lol....

When you get more advanced you can use a distro like System Rescue to fix your bootloader instead of having to reinstall everything

I use DX, and it’s a really great app with some great features like:

  • fingerprint unlocking
  • A dedicated keyboard for selecting and entering credentials to avoid security problems with the system clipboard

I have often wondered if you can take an android phone, drill and rip out all the sensors and radio transmitters, and use wired Ethernet through a VPN router and still be able to use just banking apps as that seems to be one thing I keep a proprietary phone around for.

Edit: I forgot the speaker and the mic though the mic could be classed as a sensor

I just finished my perfect st build after switching from kitty. So I’m not really interested in getting something even more bloated then what I used to use.

At least they aren’t going for the new user friendly marketing they were a few weeks back, as they have nothing that would of helped me as a new user a few years ago

The Distro Wars are good actually.?

If all the seemingly pointless discussions about which distro is better comes from attachment to a spesific distro and if a distro is just a way to interract with linux than all the discussion about witch distro is better etc. fundementally comes from a a place of love and appreciation for Linux as an OS....

Best Linux Distro for a tablet?

Been wanting to put Linux on my Surface Pro 7, but when i tried it with Ubuntu, it didn’t work as well as I’d like. I used the Surface driver kernel, but Ubuntu wasn’t really good with touch. It couldn’t give a pop up keyboard (only showed up when logging into my account, but never beyond that). Sometimes it wouldn’t...

Using GNOME Flashback makes Ubuntu more customizable!! (lemmy.world)

I had a lot of fun customizing it, the best part of GNOME Flashback? Well, it doesn’t mess my main Ubuntu desktop environment, in fact, both DE look very similar and have the same icons!! Only “Main Menu” was installed but it only affects GNOME Flashback. I love GNOME and Ubuntu so much.
