LinkOpensChest_wav,

Oh, it was that post?

I didn’t even think it was making any statement. It was just a funny meme.

Anxiety, insomnia, hypertension, mood swings, urinary incontinence, diarrhea, dehydration, irregular heartbeat, overdose and death at very high doses

Not to worry, though. As scary as these effects may sound, for the vast majority of people, caffeine is generally considered as safe as other soft drugs such as aspirin or cannabis.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’m of the opinion that most people should be driving a lot less anyway, and that cars are heavy, potentially deadly machines that should be treated with the utmost caution.

I do suspect it’s much less risky to drive while high vs. intoxicated, but I’d certainly not do it, and I’d think less of anyone who does.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Good to know, thanks! I think most of the candy I eat is vegan. In fact, it would probably be an easy switch for me to go vegan.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Amen. One of the things I like best about anarchism is it introduces concepts that we can begin to practice immediately vs. awaiting some future revolution.

I really like the book I linked because to me it’s so much easier to read and digest than some of the famous works by authors like Kropotkin or Goldman.

Audible Anarchist has also uploaded a few chapters from the book, which I’ve been listening to on my walks: piped.privacydev.net/…/UCaO1QA8QL99_eb0XhJI2Fyw

Black plastic bags aside, it looks like a nice place for a stroll and a picnic

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Same! If you think of it, please let me know 🙏

Whatever it is, it’s pretty common to the point that I can predict the entire conversation:

Me: [Posts links to numerous transphobic tweets by Rowling].

Them: That’s not transphobic, she’s just saying [superficial bad-faith reading of the tweet in question and a statement about transgender people being “too sensitive”]

If there’s not a term for this, someone needs to coin one lol

I used to engage, but I’ve learned from my tenure on reddit to recognize the pattern and that there’s no point

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Someone pointed out that it looks like the setup for some sea lioning, and now I tend to agree.

Is there a Spotify alternative that has no ads?

I pay for Spotify for 7 years or so now and i'm so sick of all the ads. After every update there seems to be an: oops, sorry, you have ads now. Podcasts are filled with ads. I was just listening to a podcast where they shoved in 3 ads mid-sentence. How long until musicians put ads in their songs. I'm just so sick of it.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Ok so if you connected your Spotify account, then it should have your saved playlists and so forth in your library. You can stream or even download these tracks, just like with Spotify Premium. You should also be able to create new playlists/save content to your library.

It even has some features that Spotify doesn’t have. For example, you can totally block specific artists. So like for me, I fucking hate The Dwarves, and Spotify always recommends them to me. On Spotube, I was able to block them. (I’d have to refresh my memory on how.)

The catch is, it doesn’t use actual content from Spotify at all. Instead, it grabs these tracks from YouTube’s API. At least, that’s how it worked when I used it. If you try to download too much content at once, it will make you confirm that you understand that your ISP or someone might notice and take action, so … download judiciously, I guess?

I usually have a pretty solid mobile data connection, so I never bothered with downloading.

I get that sometimes, but I always win the war of attrition

It makes those old geocities sites look tasteful by comparison

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I feel quite the opposite. Reddit is populated predominantly by far right-wingers masquerading as libertarians. Things like racism, sexism, LGBTphobia, and xenophobia run rampant on the default subs. Every single thread on r/all is filled with them, and if you report them, you’re likely to catch a ban for “abusing the report button.” I actually got an IP ban for reporting a threat against trans people. Then there are the status quo warriors who fantasize about meting out violence against anyone who doesn’t fit the norm. Then there are the pedos, pedos everywhere.

Most of the so-called “leftist” subreddits are actually right-wing neoliberal subs, r/SubredditDrama or r/AgainstHateSubreddits, for example. These are not leftists or post-leftist, but system-defending pro-state pro-hierarchical neolibs. It would take a true fascist to call these people “leftist.”

And the admins are Nazis.

I like it here because it’s more moderate. Sure, there are some awful neoliberal mods on lemmy.world, but most of the users there seem alright. I’ve never felt like I’d be banned as an anarchist or for saying things like “punch Nazis” or “punch transphobes” like I was on that other hellsite. This place is much more welcoming.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Well, guess everyone has to go where they’re happy. Personally, I don’t find too much to like about reddit. It’s a hypermasculine right-wing platform with the most off-putting users It’s been my displeasure to interact with. There’s some of that here, but they usually get uncomfortable and leave, which is fucking great!

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’ve followed a link onto reddit a few times recently, and the first thing I noticed was how unhinged and toxic the discussions are there.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I know you are right about all of this, and yet I will still watch shows like the old Addams Family while I’m doing something else just to have a distraction

LinkOpensChest_wav,

modest car

Thanks for outing yourself as well. Blocked.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

You misunderstand when you say “systems to prevent those things aren’t necessary.” These things are absolutely addressed by anarchists. We’re not foolish enough to rely on the goodness of human nature to carry us through. There is no state, there are no hierarchies, but people causing harm absolutely can experience consequences under anarchism. Diffuse sanctions, for example. At worst, they can be removed from the community or group entirely.

But more than anything else, it’s important to recognize that mutual aid is just as much a part of human nature as things like rape and murder, and the rate at which rape and murder occur are greatly exacerbated by hierarchies. For example, things like masculinity have to go, and we need to stop putting people in positions of power over others and creating such hierarchies.

And this brings me back to the topic at hand. I cannot conceive of an anarchist who would in any way approve of sexually abusing someone young enough to be considered a minor. Above all, anarchists aim to remove hierarchies, and having a grown adult in a relationship with a young teenager – this would create such a power differential that I can’t imagine any anarchist approving of it or hand-waving it away. The anarchists I know very strongly disapprove of such a thing.

The people we colloquially call “libertarians”(1) on the other hand still seem to support the state as well as hierarchies such as those created under capitalism. In fact, most self-described libertarians I know want to do nothing to address the things you mentioned, as well as nothing to address other harmful things such as the social and systemic discrimination against groups like LGBT+ people, BIPOC, women, and others.

(1)yes, a bit of a misnomer since it would make more sense to call anarchists “libertarians,” though no one does, unless we append it with “libertarian left,” though even this seems like a silly term for anarchism

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Yeah, it’s super nice. And if for some reason that instance is down, it has the integrated ability to ping other instances to see which ones work and how fast. There are a ton of nifty features in that one little add-on, it’s pretty impressive.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Did you intend to make some kind of point here?

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Yeah true, I was probably harsh. It’s more like people taking a position and then protecting it at all costs, even when it unravels lol
