What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Other than your carrier give it for free or cheap, I don’t really see the reason why should you buy new phone. I’ve been using Redmi Note 9 for past 3 years and recently got my had on Poco F5. I don’t see the point of my ‘upgrade’. I sold it and come back to my Note 9. Gaming? Most of them are p2w or microtransaction...

M_Reimer,

The only real issue are updates. After just 3 years my previous phone didn’t get any security updates and I had to get new hardware. I actually liked my previous phone more than my current one. But it is how it is.

M_Reimer,

Just to be sure you should always remove information, you don’t want on the internet, by yourself.

I always have most metadata storage disabled on my smartphone. Good way to prevent leaking of a location stored in images.

M_Reimer,

The number one question I would ask about HTTP would be: Why was the “Referer” header initially added and why wasn’t it removed from standard to this day. In my opinion the server, I’m going to, should never know where I came from.

Continuous operation of a general purpose relay?

Hello, I have a circuit that will need to return connected hardware to a default state if power is lost. The hardware can handle continuous voltage, so I’m thinking a simple solution would be to use a battery to provide that fallback power source. To avoid draining the battery, I’d like to connect it through a relay on the...

M_Reimer,

The relay will cause a short voltage drop when switching. This could be a problem if your circuit can’t handle a short voltage drop.

Probably the Mean Well has adjustable output voltage. If you can trim the output voltage of the power supply to a higher voltage than your battery, then you can probably just run each power source through a diode and merge them after the diodes.

M_Reimer,

I would recomment to try Kicad for this. It is free and should do just what you want.

Learning about electronics

Hello! What would be a good way to learn about electronics in terms of creating them? I’m particularly interested in building my own keyboards and other PC peripherals, but I’m not sure what tools I would need, or what’s a good knowledge base if I run into any issues. Any tips and or suggestions?

M_Reimer,

You want to get into microcontroller programming somehow. The Raspberry Pi Pico may be a good target to start with. The documentation is well made and you have the choice to either use C++ or Python for programming.

555 based PWM Dimmer not working only with LED strips (discuss.tchncs.de)

I bought a PWM Dimmer based on a 555 from AliExpress to regulate the brightness of a 12V 1A 1 meter LED strip, I already built one myself years ago on a perfboard but this one was the exact dimensions I needed for a project. I built mine from components from AliExpress and components found in old electronics so I thought nothing...

M_Reimer,

The video does not play for me.

Did you try to dim the LED strip with your selfmade dimmer?
