Kindness can be learned. The difference between being genuinely kind and just constantly successfully mimicing what a kind person would do is - no difference at all, really.

Ultimately, I think people who started as natural assholes make the best kind people - beacuse we don’t just do what feels kind, but we have to examine the results of our attempts at kindness, and adjust if needed.

MajorHavoc,

That looks exactly like my warbird tattoo. I’m starting to think all that extra money I paid my artist for a custom design was a rip-off.

The DCEU ends not with a bang, but a wimper. (lemmy.ml)

10 years after Zod’s snapped neck, Martha, “some kinda Suicide Squad”, CGI moustache, rennouncing your wish, the hiearchy of power changing, and Speed Force PS1 graphics, the DC Extended Universe finally comes to a close. And it ends the same way it started - with a Rotten score....

MajorHavoc,

Yeah. There was so much wasted potential in the DCEU.

But I don’t consider Aquaman wasted potential at all. I’m a fan of the comic, but the source material never tried to be Black Panther, so a movie that did wouldn’t have worked anyway.

Considering “The Aquaman” made it to 2 films, I figure Hasbro will be calling Jason Mamoa to star in a “Seaspray” movie any minute. Maybe have him cameo as Boat-guy-wity-parrot in a GI Joe movie, just for good measure.

My hopes for James Gunns version are pretty high. PeaceMaker is so lovingly made.

I do worry because I haven’t seen James Gunn take on the unironically uplifting side of DC yet, and it needs to be there for the DCU to work.

MajorHavoc,

Can we get an honorable mention for Spock’s brother?

If you’re interested in that level of control, it’s time to look hard at GrapheneOS. “Internet” is a permission you can grant or deny for each app, under GrapheneOS.

But I’m not aware of a way to selectively direct phone traffic through Proton VPN, at the phone. Even on GrapheneOS.

Enough skill with an expensive router could do it, but only on your home network, or only while routing all of your phone traffic back to your home network via yet another VPN.

Edit: TIL, Proton VPN supports split tunneling. Sweet! Look under Settings - Advanced - Split Tunneling - then pick your apps to include/exclude.

Edit 2: TIL DivestOS also supports “Internet” as a per app Permission. Very cool.

MajorHavoc,

“Only I didn’t say ‘Q’Pla’…”

MajorHavoc,

It was a triple-dog dare. Refusing it would have brought dishonor to his entire house.

It's one of the biggest experiments in fighting global poverty. Now the results are in (www.npr.org)

It’s an unprecedented – and massive – experiment: Since 2017 the U.S.-based charity GiveDirectly has been providing thousands of villagers in Kenya what’s called a “universal basic income” – a cash grant of about $50, delivered every month, with the commitment to keep the payments coming for 12 years. It is a...

MajorHavoc,

That is such a good way to express the core concept. Well said.

MajorHavoc,

Now I’m going to hum the DS9 credits to myself every time I walk into a Buc-ees.

MajorHavoc,

Nice. Now I want to do one:

“Is this going anywhere… - Oh shit, this is fun!”

MajorHavoc,

Yeah. I was literally just talking about how my SteamDeck is going to let me retire my remaining Windows PC. And by retire it, I mean install Linux, and continue to enjoy it.

MajorHavoc,

It legit took me several moments to find them. Lol.

MajorHavoc,

It still could be the cast of Oceans 9…

I mean, I bet it does work as effective birth control. No offense meant to Picard, of course.

I would put this to the test and report back, but I’m too busy watching the surprise kids I had.

On a related note, I am able to report that a photograph of Levar Burton standing watch will not prevent having children.

MajorHavoc,

Yeah. Or they’re separate changelings, but they all had the same “disguise 101” changeling professor, who was, of course, played by Jeffrey Combs. There’s hope that Lower Decks could make one of these theories into canon.

MajorHavoc,

Good question. I imagine the saucer section retains all the nurturing family camper persona, while the naccelle section revels in having all the warp power, and occasionally reminds everyone that it thinks mainly with it’s battle bridge.

MajorHavoc,

“Ow! What did you do that for?! I’m here for an argument.”

“Oh! That’s two doors back the way you came. This is ‘getting hit in the head’ lessons!”

MajorHavoc,

I do need to see Picard snap Q’s neck in cold blood.

Also it could be fun seeing Riker spend a whole film trying to kill Picard for no adequately explored reason.

Troi would be the saving grace of the film and end up with a separate stand-alone series of films that completely ignore all existing Trek canon.

The rest of the cast would also get solo movies, but ones forgotten either months after, or at worst, months before, their release dates.

MajorHavoc,

I can’t quite make the math work, but now I want a Captain Worf series that somehow features Colm Meaney in more episodes than Michael Dorn…

MajorHavoc,

We artists have been biding our time in hiding, building our numbers, preparing for the day we have the strength in numbers to overtrhow the gallery visitors and establish a fortress inside against the world. But don’t tell anyone. /s

MajorHavoc,

This thread has lots of company names without references or explanations.

While " controversy" is probably a solid search term, we could do better by including “why” right in the comments.

MajorHavoc,

Practice saying, “That’s a terrific idea, but we’re not going to do it.”, twelve times.

Next, congratulations on completing my class on how to be a great manager.
