Eskating cyclist, gamer and enjoyer of anime. Probably an artist. Also I code sometimes, pretty much just to mod titanfall 2 tho.

Introverted, yet I enjoy discussion to a fault.

IKR. This is peak food photography, OP!

Tachiyomi is just a comic reader, but it can aggregate from A LOT of sources, both local files and websites. Each online source (mangadex, tapas) requires a plug-in to work. Those plugins need maintenance and workarounds for stuff like cloudflare blocks.

Needless to say a lot of content hosts aren’t fans of a client that pulls content without the user ever seeing an ad or something, so these plug-ins tend to break.

I still have apps that I made to work on android 6, working just fine. Android has extremely good backwards compatibility.

The reason tachiyomis plug-ins would stop working is that the sources they pull content from keep blocking them, and there wouldn’t be anyone to come up with new workarounds.

Android itself hasn’t changed that much unless your app is overly reliant on old app permissions. Which tachiyomi isn’t.

It’s not like it’ll stop working for local files.

You could still get the actual comics anywhere, convert em to .cbz, and chuck em in some folders named by series. In that sense, Tachiyomi should keep working forever.

It’s really only the streamlined online sources that’ll break over time, and no new features will get added.

Lucky for us, looks like it’ll be getting forked and live on as “Mihon”.

Don’t think so

Was recommended Dantotsu

Relies on an anilist account, and can be used for both anime and manga.

Awww… One of my top posts was on there.

Maybe I should repost it here? It was pretty Yabai tho.

MentalEdge,

Yes, and there are actually some occasional posts, even.

You can definitely block mods, and also admins of other instances.

But I don’t think you can block your own instances admins, but if those people are worth blocking maybe you shouldn’t be on that instance…

OP is talking about a laptop.

Unless you are suggesting they find a way to remove the battery, “removing the power cord and turning it on without actually turning it on” isn’t something they can try.

And the fact that WiFi works on another distro suggests this isn’t a weird bug-state that the card needs to be snapped out of with power-cycling tricks.

Hardware related stuff like this typically comes down to the kernel version, or what kernel modules the distro ships. The linux kernel comes with a ton a drivers for different hardware, each of which implement support for hundreds/thousands of pieces of hardware. The wi-fi driver shipped with Mint isn’t new enough to include an implementation for your specific wi-fi hardware.

Mint seems to be on an LTS 5.X kernel, while Pop is shipping newer 6.X kernels (makes sense, as they like to keep up with gaming-related improvements).

As an example, I had to jump to a newer version on Manjaro, when the LTS kernel used by default was just one digit behind the version that was new enough to have support for the PS DualSense5 controller.

Hopping to a newer kernel version can be tricky depending on the distro, but it looks like Mint has a tool for this. You can find it in the Update Manager: View --> Linux Kernels. There you should be able to switch to running a 6.X kernel version.

Darn.

Well, I could just go back to .cbz files converted from full series acquired using “downloaders”.

But damn, Tachiyomi really streamlined the process of reading manga on an android ereader.

What about the J2K fork?

I checked it out, good recommendation.

Unfortunately it’s completely unusable on an eink device due to its over-animated low-contrast UI design.

Tachiyomi has the black and white yinyan theme and allows disabling all animations in the reader, making it a near-native experience on eink.

Well, you do. But the EU has a bunch of sanity check laws that make basically all of them non-binding.

Such as any agreement too long for anyone to actually read, being moot.

But YT makes it pretty clear they don’t want you blocking ads, that might actually make that specific part one of the few things that would stand up in court.

MentalEdge,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

You can reject cookies, not the TOS. You agree to the TOS of services by simply using them.

MentalEdge,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

That’s a very bad analogy.

That logic would lead to defect-defect scenarios in all but the rarest of cases.

By all means, defect when warranted, but if a bad company changing course doesn’t net rewards, why would corps ever do anything other than the worst possible, taking as many users down with them as they can snare?

@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

You don’t say. Everyone does it.

But it’s a shit source of income that nets mere cents per user, and should be made illegal as soon as political will allows.

Hence, a good service should not rely on collecting user data as a sole revenue source.

MentalEdge,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

Then I hope YT gets legally enshrined and archived in some way.

Like it or not, it is the sole complete repository of a lot of video and audio records for recent human history.

It’s become something that should not be under corporate control. Something which should be treated with care and reverence.

Yet it is, and isn’t.

Haha yea, shame on them for trying to transition to a business model that’s actually a great value for the customer compared to other music and video playforms, no longer relies on datamining customers to maximize ad-effectiveness, and brings in more income for creators than ads ever did…

It’s a totally stupid idea, YT should just eat the costs and be subsidized by Google search revenue forever.

Why can’t we just keep taking from the platform while its expenses are covered by some shrinking group of shmucks who don’t know about ad-blockers yet, drowning in commercials?

/S

I don’t understand this outlook. Like, sure, you can use adblock. One person stealing a mars bar isn’t gonna hurt Walmart… But if literally everyone just took their shopping cart home, never once paying, Walmart would just… Cease to exist.

What makes people think that math is any different for online services?
